One project a day- 2nd thread!

BlueLobelia · 19/05/2021 19:01

Welcome to everyone, old hats, lurkers and newbies.

This is a thread where we try and achieve something, no matter how small, a day.

This was the preamble to the previous thread ;

''......many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :) ''

everyone welcome!

So for me- i am currently cleaning the kitchen.

I am WFH for the next few days as our workplace covid bubble burst.

Tomorrow I need to contact the school to see if the Dcs can come in (I was away last week and had no contact with my colleague but always best to check protocol!).

Then I need to sort another charity shop bag.

I am glad you started another thread. I am undergoing lots of medical investigations at the moment and once (hopefully) I get the all clear, I want to start decluttering and chucking stuff out. Plus, playing the "Run over by a bus" game which literally entails me sorting out all my life insurances/pensions/mortgage etc JUST in case something did happen to me. I enjoy reading what others have done in a day and hope to be able to contribute soon to.

I'm going to enlist DH to help move some boxes to the loft in just a minute. The contents are some of our Christmas decorations Blush - boxes they were stored in were too big and heavy, but I've now re-boxed them

@BlueLobelia Thank you for starting a new thread, it's a good way to keep on track!

Yaaay.

Have to post as otherwise won't be able to find you.
Right as discussed on other thread, washing up now, then bath (rather than shower) bit of a tidy, read, bed.
Here's hoping for a good night.
Be back tomorrow.
Lovely shiny new thread. Thanks

Please can I join? I had a look at the first thread but felt a bit shy as it was over half full by then 😳

This sounds like my kind of thing though. I’m gradually doing better with housework and life admin.

Not sure I’ll get off to the best start mind, as I’m full of post-period headache/nausea 🤢 and then tomorrow I have my second covid vaccine so I might be pretty wiped out over the (busy) next few days 😬 however I’ve been planning a big (to me) project to move some stuff round upstairs to fit in the refurb computer I’ve been granted, and generally I want to tidy up for my parents coming on Sunday for the first time in over a year. So lots to think about!

I need to go to a garden centre to buy some blue lobelia plants to celebrate this lovely space! Such happy plants.

Hugs to all who would like one or two or however many. Today I made chocolate banana muffins, did the ironing and I am going to do my first attempt at transplanting tomato seedlings. Will attempt half just in case they don’t quite make it

Thank you for the new thread!

I've had an intense couple of days as our estate agent photographer is coming tomorrow. I had the day off work today and did nothing but rush round trying to make the house presentable. All storage space is now bulging at the seams even though we've got rid of quite a bit of stuff over the past couple of weeks. I'm as happy as I could reasonably be, with the exception of our bedroom. I'd hoped to take down our bedside cot (which DD has long outgrown) but I ran out of both time and storage space. Still, I'll be really relieved when the photographer has been, I can revert to just one task a day! Booking myself a massage for tomorrow!

So happy to have you join. :)

How exciting to have your 2nd jab scheduled. path back to normalcy I hope.

I have had so many ups and downs on the last thread and some days did next to nothing, but things are really starting to change for me.

In the last thread I ordered DS1 a lovely navy blue duvet set. My bedroom is sort of grey and pale yellow and I am about to order a gold duvet set from the same place. It sounds silly, but when I married DH i moved into his house and so I never really felt I could make demands about my own decor. DH has never ever made me feel like that, just to stress. I just thought I could not impose my stamp, so to speak. We still have the same coverlet DH had from when he first moved out.

So i am buying bedding that is to my own taste. We've been together 20 years FFS.

I’m coming back to stick my feet in the thread as I never really got started last week! After I spent Monday in bed with self inflicted dehydration, I’ve spent all day today in hospital being tested for all sorts due to chest pain :/ then was released and went to work for a few hours.

I got home and made dinner and I’m about to do bedtime but I’m just surveying the Pit that the house becomes. We live in a two up, two down, one wide old miners cottage and, while it’s very characterful, it doesn’t take much for look like a hurricane has hurtled through it!

Oh, also, I love blue lobelia and am gutted it didn’t return this year in my little garden. I know it’s not supposed to, but I was lucky one year and it did! I’ll have to head to the garden centre too!

My mum alway had lobelia in her garden. Now I've got the house straight (I never thought I'd say that!) I would love to do something, with the garden. Perhaps blue lobelia would be appropriate here too!

The lobelia I planted in my window boxes in my first or second post is not even flowering though so I am not sure what i did wrong. My gernaiums also have not flowered. I am a bit new to the whole planting lark so not sure if the coldy frosty days have delayed the growing cycle.

Thanks for second thread

I fell off the last one as I didn't manage to do my 'one thing a day' 2 days in & got disheartened.

Trying again. ☺️

Tomorrow's 'big' task is to finalise my order for new front door & ring the guy supplying & fitting it.

Smaller jobs x 2 are clean upstairs bathroom & sort 1 box of paperwork.

(I already think the bar's set too high!)

My parents had pampas in their front garden when I was a child. They had a very active social life too Shock Was only much later that I learnt it was a swingers symbol. I've never dared ask my mother 🙈
I will stick to lobelia and perhaps sweet peas. Maybe some tomato plants in a gri bag. Quite excited about this!

This evening DH and I have shifted some furniture in the dining room and taken up the old stinking dog piddle covered carpet.
I am off tomorrow so I will take it to the tip.
I might start removing wallpaper in there too.

My (long-time widowed) neighbour has these past few weeks planted pampas grass and bamboo along our shared backgarden wall. Not sure what it means, but he has in lockdown also grown a pony tail.

My beef steak tomato plants have finally started to grow. I wish I could send a couple of the seedlings to you. (not sure that is even possible via the post!).

Hello! Thanks for the new thread @BlueLobelia. Smile Today I fitted some door handles that finally arrived, ordered tiles for the bathroom, and made some progress returning 22 boxes of dodgy flooring to a company with very poor customer service! Tomorrow's jobs: finish the last little bit of paint in DDs room (then that room is all done) and order the paint for the new study.

I don’t feel like I’ve done much recently but we’ve visited a nursery and contacted a childminder for when DS starts school in September. Experimenting with using the timer on my washing machine so I can get on top of washing each day.
I’ve been to a gym class tonight for the first time in years and I’ve prepped my packed lunch for tomorrow.

@BlueLobelia it's too early for lobelia and geraniums to flower just yet - especially with this cool weather. I plant these every year - this year's are not ready to flower yet. Patience!

I need some more bedding for another part of the garden now - something a bit bigger/taller.
