Dedicate: 30 days of Yoga with Adriene

Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

Day 1 finally done Smile and I enjoyed it except for the forearm plank. I have weird wrists! Haven't done any yoga for years but found quite a lot of it came back to me. Glad the rest of the sessions are shorter though - 50 mins almost impossible to fit in.

UserMe18 · 02/01/2019 23:23

Done, hoping I sleep well tonight! Couldn't stop watching Benji for a lot of it 😂

Habadabadoo · 02/01/2019 23:35

I did mine earlier too (in between cooking dinner!) but didn't get to post here as had to rush out.
I agree with so many people that the sitting crossed legged was hard to do for so long and she is lovely but waffley!
I didn't find that it gave me the 'high' that a good work out does but I am glad I did it and will carry on.
Really enjoyed reading all your experiences.
Here's to tomoro Smile

Titsywoo · 02/01/2019 23:51

Did it this afternoon. It did go quickly and I enjoyed it although I kept getting slight pins and needles in my legs which was annoying. And my wrists are seriously weak but I knew that already! Will do day 2 early tomorrow as I'm out for my 10th wedding anniversary in the evening :)

TheClitterati · 03/01/2019 00:18

Oops I forgot - not a great start.
I
Remembered before bed but after dinner. Did half of it but then felt quite ill (full belly).

Will endeavour to do better on an Empty stomach tomorrow morning.

daisychain01 · 03/01/2019 02:31

A plank you say....hmmm. this may not be an easy enough introduction for me

I ended up konking out at 8.30 pm - was zonked. Hence awake at 2.30 am lol. Will probably fall a sleep again tho - yoga's great like that!

Good adaptation for plank is a half-plank, with knees on the mat. You still get all the benefits of abs challenge but not as tough (still tough, but doable!).

Tangarine · 03/01/2019 05:22

Good morning everyone. Thanks for the pointers about using a block for the sitting parts. After two months off yoga I needed it today. It was so good to be back on my mat again!

Frumpyfatand40ish · 03/01/2019 07:00

I did yesterday's last night and loved it. Felt really tall and floaty afterwards! And my back feels lots better today.

I really enjoyed her style, found it very relaxing.

Found the crossed legs ok (was sitting on a folded blanket) but it really hurt my back!

Enjoying trying to discern why I'm doing this. It's a way of getting time to myself for my head, and also some exercise. Full-time full-on job, plus 2 small DCs mean that I rarely carve out time for myself (thank goodness for parkrun..) I want to commit to this for a month as I think it will be good for me, but it's a big ask....

I’ve just done Day 2. I was planning on doing it this evening but I slept really badly last night and my neck felt so crunched when I did get up I just got to it. I enjoyed it, building on Day 1 but moving on as well. I enjoyed the warrior poses and lunges, my legs didn’t feel quite stretched after day 1.

Nevth · 03/01/2019 08:17

Day 2 in the bag. Nice to use the legs a bit more and stretch out, and I quite like Adriene. I mainly do yin yoga classes usually so hoping for some more sun salutations and flow-type exercises here!

recently · 03/01/2019 09:18

I found day 2 really hard. Downward dog is very difficult for me, as is anything which involves putting weight on the arms!

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 03/01/2019 09:36

Ive done day 1this morning and love her encouraging style. I have so much negative selftalk, especially as I am so big and unfit! I couldnt do the second downwards dog at all. And adapted the plank...

I love the gentle stretching and positive thoughts though. I really need that level of encouragement it seems.

Im not sure about the intention stuff really. Maybe to be more self aware and care about my body more?

I don't like that I can't move into some positions but great to realise its okay to adapt.

I love her style though and she has so many followers! Where does she make all her income if its free?

I hope i can keep up with this. Am still niggling i need more of a beginner into or adapted for fat people... but will do what I can!

RhinestoneCowgirl · 03/01/2019 09:46

I'm late to this, as just did day 1 this morning. Have done other 30 days with Adrienne before, great way to start the year! I don't always manage to do it every single day, but it's good to have a target.

whitershadeofpale · 03/01/2019 09:50

I decided to lie in an extra hour after a poor night’s sleep so won’t do day 2 until later.

My bad knee hurt last night and is tender this morning so I’ll Ben careful but I’m hoping doing yoga everyday will help me build up some strength.

EyeSaidTheFly · 03/01/2019 10:04

Placemarking. Am supposed to be doing this with a friend but she's gone awol. Want to do the full month. Found yesterday waffly but great by the end.

Crocky · 03/01/2019 10:07

Day 2 done.
I'm back at work next week so will find it harder to fit in but am determined to do all the days.

Samb79 · 03/01/2019 10:34

I’ve failed already, two days behind and haven’t started yet! I’ve done a 30 day one of hers before and half of yoga camp, I just need a stern talking to to get my bum into gear. I love Adrienne, and I love yoga so I don’t know why I have put it off. Hit me with your stern words ladies, there are two unread emails from Adrienne in my inbox!

Ietthemeatcake · 03/01/2019 11:12

Did day 2 before work, finding it hard to still my mind, but it was easier to get up and on the mat than yesterday 😀

Bombardier25966 · 03/01/2019 11:24

Day 2 done, lots of planks! And I'm too stubborn to go to half plank, despite telling others to adapt and do what works for them. Lovely session though, I enjoyed it and it didn't feel too long at all.

@Samb79, you've not failed, you're just adapting it to suit your needs 😉

Bombardier25966 · 03/01/2019 11:26

For the rambling bits, I do my own stuff through them. I have neck and shoulder problems so will do neck rolls, looking over my shoulder, doing a really stretchy extended child's pose etc. Makes the time pass!

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 03/01/2019 11:37

Er lota of planks! Will have to rmeind myself of half planks.

Also found an adapted down dog (puppy? Bit like a cross with childs pose) for when I cant keep up with downward dog.

Bit worried Im not up to it. Will do day 2 tonight :)

floribunda18 · 03/01/2019 11:46

If you struggle with sitting cross-legged for long periods, trying leaning against a wall to start with while your core and back get stronger.

In my classes we all use foam blocks to sit on, even the superfit teacher, so there is no shame in that either. I used my block for Day 1 as it improves my spinal alignment in any seated poses.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 03/01/2019 11:56

I used a super hard pillow on day 1 and was surprised at the difference. I could sit much taller.

juniperjune · 03/01/2019 12:08

I just did day 2, I enjoyed it. I also chose to sleep a little longer then had to do it with the kids running round, so not quite as restful as I'd hoped!

Here is an interesting article about her www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/sep/25/yoga-adriene-mishler-youtube-interview
