Dedicate: 30 days of Yoga with Adriene

Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

I’m in

Day 1 done here too. Had the shakes holding a couple of positions but felt refreshed at the end. I was surprised at how quickly the time went.

mustdrinkwaternotwine · 02/01/2019 19:23

I'm planning on doing this although am completely new to yoga. What do I do? Just go to YouTube and search and then start? I am horrified at the idea of sitting cross legged. I used to find that uncomfortable at primary school and that was a good few decades ago!

VioletCharlotte · 02/01/2019 19:31

First day done!

Mustdrinkwater there's a link at ten start of this thread. If you sign up you receive an email each day with a link to the video. Or you can just find it in you tube.

Don't worry too much about sitting cross legged. I've been doing yoga for years and still find it uncomfortable. Sitting on a block helps, if you have one, or you can use cushion or rolled up blanket. Helps to elevate the hips.

Just done it. I actually really enjoyed it! Far more than I thought I would.
I have hip problems anyway but Christ that was uncomfortable!

Ulysses · 02/01/2019 19:49

This is the 3rd year I'll be doing the programme. I finished it the first time but only did about half of it last time, so really want to finish it again. I did do day 1 today and find it far easier first thing in the morning than later on in the day. Saying that, the first 20 minute dragged by and I found Adriene's constant stopping and waffling on 30 seconds into a pose annoying at first, but once it going moving I got my flow and the time went by more quickly. Her new studio is beautiful.

Ietthemeatcake · 02/01/2019 19:50

Done this morning before work, but I didn't have my glasses on when looking at the calendar and expected 30 mins not 50, so was in a mad rush for work after, hence only posting now.
My second year of doing January 30 days. I found those planks harder than I expected to, but I haven't been to a class in about a month, so I guess that makes sense. Looking forward to toning up and getting stronger with you all.

Onemorefireball · 02/01/2019 20:11

Day 1 done. I enjoyed the movement, but did get a bit bored at points. Going to wake up early to do tomorrow's I think.

daisychain01 · 02/01/2019 20:29

Anyone struggling with seated posture could try Virasana (Hero) which is kinder on hips. It's the yoga kneeling posture.

If you need it, padding behind the knees with a softly rolled or folded fleece blanket makes it super comfy!

Talisin · 02/01/2019 20:30

Day one done. Took me about two thirds of the way through for my brain to stop yammering at me and relax but once I hit mountain pose I finally got into it. I feel super relaxed and all slinky now Grin

whitershadeofpale · 02/01/2019 20:37

Day one done. I sat elevated on a bolster with my legs crossed. At times I felt like I’d prefer less time on each movement, but ended it feeling lovely and floaty. And taller, which is how I know that taking time overnight the postures paid off.

Looking forward to tomorrow. Aiming to do it in the morning.

piglet81 · 02/01/2019 21:02

My intentions are good but my wretched beloved child is still awake (9pm) so I'm getting nowhere yet on day 1!

chutneypig · 02/01/2019 21:23

I’d built up the 50 minutes in my head but loved how it flowed. I was feeling very misaligned and achy before and feel very good now, I loved the studio, very soothing. I’m looking forward to tomorrow but hoping there aren’t too many planks!

carrie74 · 02/01/2019 21:39

Day 1 done, DD13 joined me (I made her - I think yoga will be really good for her Y9 mental health). I found the first half too slow, but still enjoyable. I'm finding my shoulders are taking a long time to warm up, the first downward dog really hurt them, this has also been happening in my classes, so I think I need to make sure I warm them up thoroughly before a session/class.

I've had the lurgy for a week, so it felt good to do something structured again too. I'm fairly active, but only have limited exercise time, so not sure if we'll manage them all - if I've only got 45 minutes, then weights or a run are going to win, although yoga stretching after either is always a good call!

Cherrypi · 02/01/2019 21:43

Enjoyed today. I’m so stiff.

sadlovedgirl · 02/01/2019 21:57

Day 1 done for me too. I've never done any sort of yoga before but I really enjoyed it.
DH was downstairs stopping the kids from interrupting and even tho I had his blessing to take the time I still felt guilty, what's that all about??

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 02/01/2019 22:01

DH and I did it tonight and it really made us feel better; we both had massive back and neck “clicks” after that were lovely.

I’m just pooped now though. Is it meant to knacker you out?!

Redpriestandmozart · 02/01/2019 22:08

Just finished day one and I loved it, so good to get back to all the stretches. Had to stop half way for a pee :( other than that I didn't wobble too much, well less than I anticipated. I love reading everyone's experience of the day before I get down to doing it.

eurochick · 02/01/2019 22:24

I've just done Day 1. 50 minutes was loong. But frankly we should be able to find that time for ourselves. I just need to keep telling myself that so I make sure I keep at it when I'm back at work (I start tomorrow).

itssquidstella · 02/01/2019 22:37

I've just finished day 1. I found the first half pretty boring - Adrienne waffles on more than I'd like, but I tend to feel that about her videos anyway. Overall I enjoyed it, though, and I feel nice and relaxed now! I hope she ramps up the pace quite quickly or I don't think it'll do much for me from a strength/toning point of view.

recently · 02/01/2019 22:43

I enjoyed it but couldn't do everything.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 02/01/2019 22:43

Just finished. I really had to force myself to start and I thought I'd just give it 20 mins tonight but I did it all. The time went really fast.

I couldn't manage some of the planks though. It really aggravated my bad knee. I did go running this evening so maybe that didn't help. Something to work on.

Not sure whether to try to do it early tomorrow before work. I'm quite enjoying feeling relaxed and chilled in time for bed but I know my motivation is worse in the evenings.

OnceUponAGiraffe · 02/01/2019 22:56

Marking a place here as I did the first one tonight. Found it a bit waffley and not as much movement as I expected. But I managed it all apart from the full first plank despite being about four stone overweight and not having done much exercise for ages, but particularly not in the last year.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 02/01/2019 23:07

I habe to start tomorrow as cant get a whole hour easily in school holidays.

A plank you say....hmmm. this may not be an easy enough introduction for me Blush
