Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

I had hoped to do day two while DS was at preschool for the morning, but the Aldi shop took too long 😑 Shall have to fit it in later. Should have hauled myself out of bed to do it before he got up 🤦‍♀️

AugustRose · 03/01/2019 12:40

And I'm too stubborn to go to half plank, Bombardier I'm like that too, even when it hurts Grin

Done Day 2 and I really enjoyed it today, tried hard to focus on my positions and feet - I have flat feet and before doing yoga I found it hard to be barefoot but quite enjoy it now. I could feel it in my abs a little from yesterday's planks so will really be feeling it tomorrow.

OldSpeclkledHen · 03/01/2019 12:44

Brilliant! Thanks for the link @Gumpendorf

Have signed up! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I imagine, like most you-tubers, the income comes from ads/monetisation of her videos, so she gets a few pence per every video where someone sees an advert (I believe if you have adblock on, this is detected and there's no income). I would guess she maybe has some endorsement deals with brands on social media too? If she still does public classes, I guess she can charge a fortune for them too.

Anyway, day 2 done! I definitely found today harder- lots of planks and the lunges got progressively more difficult. I have quite tight muscles, especially in my legs, and my downward facing dogs are terrible- but I feel good for having done it! I enjoyed the warrior poses once I realised about turning my foot- initially I was trying to do it with my back foot pointed forwards which was pretty hard.

She's definitely ramping up the difficulty, but in a manageable way- much less resting in child pose today.

Unlike everyone who finds sitting cross legged difficult, I found sitting straight legged much harder!

Looking forward to tomorrow!

DAY 2.
Many thanks to AugustRose and Daisychain for the advice yesterday. It was much appreciated and helped with today’s session that had me almost melt away despite having the AC on. I found following the instructions by listening and not sneaking a look a lot easier than yesterday but the moves once into the downward dog were a real battle. My tummy gets in the way and at almost 61 I’m not as bendy or as strong as I once was. Still, I’m enjoying it and am looking forward to where this will lead me.

Habadabadoo · 03/01/2019 14:48

@Samb79 a few of us have confessed that just showing up is half the battle! Have you seen the calendar? The first two sessions (yesterday and today) are the longest then they are around half hour after that. I'm finding the longest ones harder to fit it but managed yesterday's whilst also cooking dinner and will do today's this afternoon then hopefully easier after that.
Come on ... get on your Matt Grin

Going out tonight so did day 2 this afternoon, a lot of plants, my poor abs :(

Can I ask about extended child pose, knees to the edge of the mat and nose to the mat? Should my boobs rest on the mat too or should I be keeping my back straighter?

So glad im doing it but I am finding it challenging as a novice

Me too. In fact I’m not convinced it is for a novice because of the actual lack of teaching of technique. I do believe though that the important bit is that we’re moving but I’m convinced that the end of the 30 days is when going to a glass and being taught technique is the way forward thereafter.

Subscribe to Adrienne's YouTube page. There are lots of sessions covering the basics for complete beginners which might be better for some people than following this programme. I do think doing a class with a teacher once a week is a good idea too. I'd like to do more but it isn't cheap. Find a good teacher though, try a few different classes if you can. My current teacher is like a British version of Adrienne so absolutely perfect.

I must say I find the plank resting on forearms harder than straight arm plank. It was a bit "oof" yesterday for me and I've only had a couple of weeks not practising.

floribunda18 · 03/01/2019 16:37

What made me really get the yoga bug was doing it outside last summer. It's the perfect exercise for warm weather. It's lovely any time of year but it's such a different experience them from a draughty village hall. Stay with it!

FuzzyShadowChatter · 03/01/2019 17:53

I'm another who was stubborn on the planks, though that was in part because I find anything where it's on the knees for any length quite uncomfortable and I ended up grabbing a cushion to kneel on for those parts today. Maybe a thicker yoga mat would help that and my hands? (mine's an ancient one I picked up during a health kick years ago).

Hockneypool · 03/01/2019 18:14

Day 2 done. Totally agree about the planks and lunges too but need to protect my knees where possible. Have a pleasant glow in my wrists and shoulders now!

StarJazmin · 03/01/2019 18:17

Well I’m having a lot of difficulty with this - the bloody videos won’t play! Keep freezing and ‘loading’. Other apps working fine on the tv (Netflix, Amazon etc), even tried other YouTube vids which worked fine, clearly my tv does not want me to do this!

Yesterday managed to get about half way through before giving up as it would just not play past a certain point. Today it won’t even get started! I’m sat here in my yoga clothes, mat, blanket and bolster staring at a black screen with LOADING... on it Angry

Just going to have to put on some music and do my own thing aren’t I!

itssquidstella · 03/01/2019 18:21

I've just done day 2. I enjoyed it a lot more but my god it took a long time to get going! We were seven minutes in before we even brought our hands to our heart. I hope the movement:waffle ratio improves over the next few videos!

RevokeRemainReform · 03/01/2019 18:24

Place marking

whitershadeofpale · 03/01/2019 18:24

I’ve just finished day 2 and enjoyed it more than yesterday but found no the planks and down dogs hard. My abs felt it today and I’m sure eggy will even more tomorrow.

jamaisjedors · 03/01/2019 18:41

Just finished day 2 after putting it off all day Confused

I thought it was reasonably tough to hold the poses despite doing regular yoga.

I feel great now though and looking forward to tomorrow.

UserMe18 · 03/01/2019 18:44

The yoga teacher I was seeing last year said she would still go to a class often despite being able to do so by herself because her "alignment" would go off after a while, I think we tend to push ourselves a bit harder in classes, plus have a tutor to check postures, big mirrors help too! So I will head back to a class soon......!!!

VioletCharlotte · 03/01/2019 18:45

I'm going to my regular yoga class today so will be doing that instead of day 2. Back to Adrienne tomorrow.

Habadabadoo · 03/01/2019 19:01

Day two in the books! Namaste

(Sorry couldn't resist Grin)

carrie74 · 03/01/2019 19:13

Day 2 done, this time with DD13 AND DS11, much to their disgust. Hoping the waffley beginnings get a bit shorter now, otherwise we'll be barely moving at all come the 20-odd minute practices Grin. Both of my 2 got a bit confused, so don't think it's quite novice level really, I'm forever trying to second guess the next move based on classes!

Looking forward to tomorrow!

Stuffofawesome · 03/01/2019 19:17

Ladylance she does have a partnership with adidas but it is subtle. She still does pay what you want classes in her local community and is also an actor. She also has a paid membership site too. i feel she gives so generously I don't begrudge whatever she earns.

Finding these slow sessions require a lot of strength.

NoLeslie · 03/01/2019 19:20

I had a rubbish day 2, too lazy to get up first thing so did it after work and had indigestion. Waaaah. Feel v woe is me, but glad I did it. Namaste y'all. Halo
