Dedicate: 30 days of Yoga with Adriene

Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

@StarJazmin Showing up is half the battle
This is so me!

itssquidstella · 01/01/2019 21:55

@Onemorefireball most of the videos will work well after exercise, I think - I followed last year's 30 day programme and quite often did the video after having been to the gym. There were one or two more energetic videos which might have been a bit much, but on the whole Adriene's stuff is fairly gentle (although still very good for building strength and stamina).

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 01/01/2019 22:29

Thanks for the encouragement. Look forwards to tomorrow!

Onemorefireball · 01/01/2019 22:43

Great, thanks itssquidstella

daisychain01 · 02/01/2019 06:22

Just received my Day 1 email.

It's coincidentally about 'just showing up' on the mat - that's me, once I'm there it's great, it's getting there in the first place that's the battle!

evilharpy · 02/01/2019 06:34

I’ve signed up for this. I did True last year and loved it but my yoga habit has fallen by the wayside.

Thanks for posting this, I’ve just signed up.

I’m a runner but do very little else, leaving me with The Tightest Hamstrings Ever. Touch my toes? Not a chance. Touch my shins is optimistic.

I’m hoping this will go some way to sorting that. And help my overly stressy mind.

Frumpyfatand40ish · 02/01/2019 06:56

I hadn't heard of this so thanks OP for posting. I signed up on NYE. I'll be doing today's this evening - was a little concerned at how I'd fit in nearly an hour (full time job, 2 small children) but DH has said no problems and given me an hour off! a

Iam so creaky and stiff around my shoulders, neck and back. Have booked a physio appointment to sort myself out. Pilates has helped in the past but I can't make a regular class outside the house so I am looking forward to this.

quirkychick · 02/01/2019 07:52

I have found you all. This is my fourth time doing Yoga with Adriene in January and like lots of others here it's started me off doing daily yoga. I'm going to try doing what I can today, as I don't have my usual space in the sitting room due to guests, so only a small space in the bedroom, I might also do some today and some tomorrow as they're both long ones. I'm the same as the PP who said I'm worse at finding time at weekends, as I have less set routine, same in the holidays.

Spudlet · 02/01/2019 08:01

Day one done! Didn't go quite according to plan, the idea was that I'd be up and done before DS was awake, but he had other ideas. So was accompanied by the sound of a three year old singing Baa Baa Black Sheep, and had the mat invaded at the very end by both DS and ddog 🙈 May have to rethink when and where I do this tomorrow!

Found that surprisingly hard, not because it was especially difficult (it was a gentle start) but because it's been a couple of months since I last practiced and my back, particularly, was keen to remind me of how much time I've been spending slumped at a laptop or wrangling a massive child recently. Which I reckon is a good sign that I need this time.

Also, v proud because rather than apologising to DH for taking the time, I thanked him instead... nothing to do with DH, but I'm still working through some issues from when I was much younger and I tend to apologise automatically far more than is warranted. But I am not going to apologise for taking this time for me, which I'm doing with the full support and encouragement of DH anyway. Not feeling a tiny bit guilty about it is the next goal Blush

duplodancer · 02/01/2019 08:05

Brilliant thank you. I'm going to try and do this with my DH.

Monomynous · 02/01/2019 08:32

I did this morning. I've been doing yoga for a while but a much quicker class. I found this challenging! Holding the positions for a while, even sitting cross legged make me ache. So it's reinforced that I do need to do this! I also like that it's a mental as well as a physical class as my mind could do with some calming too! She's so nice, and what a lovely space she practices from.

quirkychick · 02/01/2019 09:10

I've done the first 30 mins and will do the second half later (probably tomorrow and catch up gradually). Like Monomynous I've been doing yoga a while and quite a bit of vinyasa flow, which is quicker, the slow pace is challenging in its own way and felt like just what I needed, as we've had quite a busy social week with not enough sleep and a bit much good food and wine.

Redpriestandmozart · 02/01/2019 09:17

I'm in too. I was going so well with yoga last year then got busy over Christmas when I should have made time for it. I do it late evening just before bed so I will be setting aside an hour tonight to get back to doing what feels good.

Have fun everyone :)

BlessThisMess · 02/01/2019 09:18

Well that didn't quite go according to plan. Elderly DDog was fussy and I had to stop a couple of times to sort her out, and then I heard not-so-DH getting up - he usually sleeps till noon. So I've stopped after 20 minutes and will try and do the second half later on today.

qumquat · 02/01/2019 09:57

Hello! I've been doing an Adrienne video every day for a week or so and so ready for this! I'm not sure I'm going to manage the longer videos so I might substitute with other Adrienne videos. I'm going through a relationship breakdown so really want this to keep me sane and have one ok moment each day in January. Did day 1 with a lot of gaps to help dd with play doh - need to get up earlier!

ILiveInSalemsLot · 02/01/2019 10:14

Just did this. I found it challenging to be so slow and some of the positions were hard.
I also realised how stiff I was when I started compared to how i was when I finished. I definitely need this!

GreenHatHacker · 02/01/2019 10:15

Done! Although had to take a few breaks to get the kinks out! I've been doing my own yoga every day through the hols, but found just holding and stretching to be surprisingly tiring today.

BonBonVoyage · 02/01/2019 10:35

qumquat I hope the yoga helps you. Good idea to have one calm moment a day (at least)
I started the first video. DH said "do 20 mins, I'll mind DS" so I just did the first 20mins. Then DH spent another 20mins faffing around the kitchen before going to his (home) office so I could have done more. I'm taking it as a lesson for myself to not be apologetic and to take the time I need (as a pp mentioned)

BonBonVoyage · 02/01/2019 10:36

I should add DH brought me freshly squeezed juice in bed this morning and changed DS nappy and dressed him and put chicken bones in to make stock. So I shouldn't really grumble Grin

Habadabadoo · 02/01/2019 11:01

I'm going to do day 1 this afternoon.
Is there any need to signup for the email?
@qumquat hope the yoga and this thread helps bring a little extra sunshine into your life Thanks

Crocky · 02/01/2019 11:03

Done, just.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 02/01/2019 11:07

I’m in. We did the Dedicate day 0 video yesterday but couldn’t help but chuckling at the dog’s obvious ennui at it all.

Weird question: what time does she upload the vids? DH and I are WFH today and want to get yoga’d before picking the children up at 1.

Talisin · 02/01/2019 11:52

Around 6am UK time.
