Dedicate: 30 days of Yoga with Adriene

Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

I know that I'm probably missing the point but I found Day 16 fairly dull. I don't feel like I've been stretched much in the last few days.

Talisin · 17/01/2019 20:54

Days fourteen and fifteen done. Fourteen was lovely and fifteen wasn’t as scary as the hipdips made it sound Grin I think I’ll stick to just doing sixteen tomorrow as seventeen is a longer one as well. Will hopefully catch up fully on Sunday again.

Day 15 - hmm definitely didn't enjoy the dips! My vertebrae clicked a couple of times with the twisting so I decided not to risk too many reps.

Day 16 - enjoyed the crescent moons esp lying down and what about the forehead, neck and foot massage. Fab!

visca · 17/01/2019 21:59

I liked Day 16. When I heard it was a gentle one I was fearing another Day 8, which I found seriously dull, but it was a good bit more enjoyable thanks to the bridges!

I'd only previously done Adriene's first 30-day programme. I liked it a lot, but this one is much better so far - a lot more varied, and you can really see how she's evolved as a teacher. For people who've done more of her 30-day programmes, which is your favourite?

Habadabadoo · 17/01/2019 22:07

Day 16 in the bag!
Sending get well hugs to those that aren't well. Today's one wasn't long or difficult so could add to another day easily. Although I'm not sure how I would have faired doing the end with a bad back.
Is this a different studio than she used last year? It looks lovely!

coffeecow · 17/01/2019 23:10

Day 16 done and so chuffed I've kept it up for this long. Enjoyed today's but like a PP said I'm ready to get moving again (I'll probably regret saying that!!!)

Hope everyone who is under the weather starts to feel better soon!

chutneypig · 18/01/2019 06:35

Day 17 done. It’s a slow, stretchy start and moves on to a fair amount of core work. I can certainly feel it now in my core.

I’m a bit torn with the last few days. I’m away and it’s the only exercise I’m doing so hasn’t felt like I’ve pushed myself in some ways, but equally it’s a full on week so slowing down has helped relax me more. And I’ve been glad of the short sessions just the the logistics.

noodlezoodle · 18/01/2019 06:55

Oh dear, I really didn't like day 16 and in fact the first ten minutes made me feel downright irritable, not full of self-care and nurturing. I don't WANT to massage my face, thank you Smile

Hoping to get more out of day 17.

quirkychick · 18/01/2019 07:28

As said above, Day 17 starts of slow and stretchy and then does some more core work. I added a few more hovers and one legged hovers, as I felt more energetic today.

noodlezoodle if you don't like the massage, I'd just skip it. I did do it yesterday, but cut it short and fastforwarded to the next bit. Adriene herself talks about letting go of what's not serving you Smile.

Day 14 done - lovely to do it before work. Really enjoyed standing back stroke.

AugustRose · 18/01/2019 10:26

Day 17 done, it is a slow start and I'm obviously not in the mood for that today but the rest is good and I felt it when holding the poses and the stomach pulses.

I need your help about leggings/yoga pants. I am only short at 5ft 2 (and a half!!) so struggle to get yoga pants that are not too long. At the minute I am still doing it in a pair of loose PJ bottoms as I only have short leggings and it's way too cold for them yet. So if there are any other shorties out there, what do you wear and where did you get them from, thanks.

whitershadeofpale · 18/01/2019 10:32

I’m the same height @AugustRose and I find leggings marketed as 7/8 leggings fit me perfectly. I like Sweaty Betty best but only in the same. I’m eyeing up fabletics atm as they have 2 for £29.

Beckybibble · 18/01/2019 11:22

I've been really enjoying dedicate so far but my lower back has become very stiff after day 15. Today I can't bend down very easily and I'm really upset because the reason I started this was to strengthen my back.
Has anyone else had this issue? I may have pulled it going up in the loft to get something.
I think I may leave the yoga today and see if things improve Sad

Mrsr8 I've been doing yoga for a few years, but have tight hips (especially the left one) and lower back. I can manage the hip dips from a forearm plank, but not from a classic plank, it feels all wrong and painful! A lot of the plank, chaturunga, up dog moves are very strong on the core/obliques/lower back but can be easily modified. I only managed this move properly about 6 months ago and I've been doing 3yrs of it. You really need the core strength to do them properly. Adriene has a really nice hips and hamstrings opener video.

I'll have a look at that video too thanks.

eurochick · 18/01/2019 16:02

I'm a little behind. I managed day 15 this morning, so halfway. I'm hoping to catch up over the weekend. I definitely feel a bit more flexible and like I am walking taller.

For those of you enjoying the poses but not the more meditative self-love stuff that Adriene does, try Five Parks yoga (also on YouTube). Before embarking on this 30 day plan I used to go for Adriene or Five Parks depending on my mood. I'm quite enjoying the 30 day plan though. I'm finding I enjoy the breathing and hippy stuff if I do it before bed but just want her to get on with it in the mornings.

whitershadeofpale · 18/01/2019 17:00

Day 17 done. Think this will be one that I feel more tomorrow. Looking forward to some warriors and getting off the mat a bit more tomorrow which is odd as I’m lazy 😂

carrie74 · 18/01/2019 17:36

I've fallen behind again - On Wednesday I had to take DH to A&E (referred by GP) as he's developed a quinsy (DONT Google!), which is an abscess behind his tonsil. He came home yesterday afternoon, and is on truckloads of drugs, so I've been trying to make sure he's ok (but it was also DDs parents evening last night - Argh!!).

Don't work Fridays, so have spent today catching up with life, and just managed day 14, and might manage day 15 before bed since it's a short one. Hoping I'll be fully caught up by the end of the weekend, assuming no other familial hiccups! The cat also has an abscess, so taking him to vets (again) tomorrow. 😂

Day 17 done. I was already aching I assume from yesterday's video so found it a little tough today. I have never done 17 days of continuous exercise before!
Oh no Carrie74 real life is so inconvenient!! Hope all gets better fast.
Thanks for the Five Parks recommendation I've subscribed as something to look at in Feb.
