Dedicate: 30 days of Yoga with Adriene

Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

Day 14 completed. A nice stretch after doing a weights session.
I'm definitely more aware of my posture as I'm walking and sitting.
We're half way there Smile

I’m up to day 10.

BerylStreep · 15/01/2019 12:51

I doubled up today and did 11 & 12. I think I'm getting stronger and recognising the cues better.

AugustRose · 15/01/2019 13:30

I enjoyed the nice stretch for Day 14, it didn't feel like 20 mins though and was sad when it ended.

Littlechocola · 15/01/2019 14:09

Day 2 done. I actually don’t mind being behind as I can read how everyone else got on Grin
I’m going to try to do day 3 later as I have a long day tomorrow.

whitershadeofpale · 15/01/2019 14:30

I did day 14 early today and I find that I actually like it more in the evenings. It allows me to compartmentalise and transition from work. Plus I feel more flexible at night.

I liked day 14 though, nice and gentle which was good as I’m a bit sore from a double session yesterday.

Did anyone get what the surprise is tomorrow- I think I’m being a bit thick 😳

Lightsabre · 15/01/2019 14:55

I started this last night. I'm so unfit and feel quite achy this morning but will persevere.

mynameiscalypso · 15/01/2019 15:06

whitershadeofpale I assumed it was a new Dedicate t shirt that you could buy but I'm just guessing!

Day 14 done - if anyone else is pregnant, it's not a great one as it starts with twists and core work. Once you've skipped those bits, there's not a lot more to it. Might do another of her videos later.

whitershadeofpale · 15/01/2019 15:25

mynameiscalypso that makes sense. Not interested in that, was hoping for a cool new move or meditation.

Still I'm really pleased with the fact that stuck with it every day and I'm feeling good for it.

Habadabadoo · 15/01/2019 16:50

Day 14 done. Have really got into this now. Nothing a very slight toning although haven't lost my extra pounds (Hondas Grin!).
Could anyone get there head to the floor on the last pose (I'm nowhere near!)?

Day 14 done. I enjoyed today it absolutely flew by. I find I'm so much tighter in one side of my hips then the other. Has anyone else found this?

I've not lost any hondas either Grin but am noticing a slight toning...maybe?

carrie74 · 15/01/2019 19:20

After my mammoth days 11, 12 and 13 yesterday morning, I then did quite a strong class in the evening, and am definitely getting deeper into my twists and forward folds, plus can hold my downward dogs for longer.

Am struggling with today - DH is really ill and has now lost his voice, DD was off school as well today (feeling hot and then cold), so just me and DS out of the house. Came home at end of day, needed to cook everyone dinner, sort out DS' homework (and a LOT of sticking in of things), deal with his ASD homework meltdown, talk to DD about how she was feeling, and whether she thinks she can go to school tomorrow, and am about to go to the cinema. What I really need is another 2 hour yoga session to unwind 😂. It's going to be a late night and early morning tomorrow, so don't think I'll fit it in when I get home tonight (unless I'm really wired), so will have to do 2 back to back tomorrow evening. Really ought to try to fit in a run at some point too....

Hmmm.

Spudlet · 15/01/2019 19:21

Days 13 and 14 done as one. Pleased that I found the goddesses relatively(!) easy, I was giggling when she told us not to make a voodoo doll of Benji though Grin

Just got to fit day 11 in somewhere and I'll be bang up to date - still not feeling the love for crow at the moment though, am not back on top of this cold yet. Bloody small cbildren and their bloody hellbeast germs...

itssquidstella · 15/01/2019 20:30

I enjoyed day 15 - I did it after a really hard boxfit class so the arm stretches in particular were welcome!

I'm definitely getting deeper into forward fold and can get my head closer to the floor in wide legged forward fold. Unfortunately, last year's experience has taught me that if you stop practising every day, you don't keep the flexibility you've gained!

itssquidstella · 15/01/2019 20:31

Day 14, that is - I'm not magically day ahead!

daisychain01 · 15/01/2019 21:27

Day 14 was very restful after my hectic day at work. Nice arm repetitions towards the end which stretched me across my chest and diaphragm, which was quite nice after having swam lengths at my local pool. Slightly less vinyasa but still some nice lunges, which I'm a lot better at and can now finally do the leg stride forward from lunge, after about 12 Days of repeated effort,

Habadabadoo I don't find it easy to get my head on the ground, partly due to tight hamstrings depending on the day of the week and if I've done a spin class! So when I'm forward folding I have my trusty yoga block in grabbing distance to 'bring the ground up' to meet me. You need to keep your chin tucked in with the block pushing into the crown of the head, so a bit towards the back, not too far forward.

Blocks give a good adaptation of the posture, and my yoga teacher always reminds us we all have different body proportions which mean some people can do certain postures with ease whereas others can't and vice versa.

Crocky · 15/01/2019 21:32

Day 13 and 14 done tonight. Enjoyed them.

Gumpendorf · 15/01/2019 22:11

I did day 14 as the antidote to the Brexit vote and it worked. I find I'm much more chilled about everything.

Day 14 seemed really short. I liked the back stroke exercise and the flat back final exercise was a good stretch but I can't get my head to the floor either.

coffeecow. One side of the body often feels less flexible. Even my Pilates physio has a weaker side. She says we use each side differently. I balance differently on my right foot and find it easier to lift my right leg behind me when doing lunges, tabletop etc.

I'm sure I haven't lost weight, but I do feel much sleeker, fitter and calmer. Also January seems much less depressing even with Brexit and Trump

Day three yesterday but missed day four today (just couldn’t fit it in with work and kids and stuff). Will hopefully manage two tomorrow as have missed it today.

noodlezoodle · 16/01/2019 01:16

Enjoyed all the Day 14 arm wafting Smile. Will probably do that one again at some point too.

My head never reaches anywhere near the floor on wide legged forward folds despite me finding it easy to lean all the way forward, but it has suddenly dawned on me that that may be because I've got quite long legs, coupled with tight hamstrings. Thank you daisychain because it was reading what your yoga teacher says about different bodies that made me realise that was probably not a realistic goal. Will use my block next time!

quirkychick · 16/01/2019 07:35

noodlezoodle I have long legs and tight hamstrings too. I can touch the floor in standing wide-legged forward fold, but really struggle to lean forward much in the sitting version. I definitely have a tighter left hip and a tighter right hamstring, I hope yoga balances me out a bit more.

Day 15 done, ah those hipdips are back (loads last year). I can manage them in a forearm plank, but not a normal plank. I managed to turn my wrists right round for the first time in lion, haven't done that pose in a while, so they must be getting stronger and more flexible.

GreenHatHacker · 16/01/2019 08:01

Day 15 done early today as working from home. Interesting combination of some gentle stretches and a few tricky (for me anyway!) moves. Hip dips a bit startling at the end - determined to do better with them this year.

On the progression side - noticing mostly in arms and shoulders, upper arms feeling a little better defined and generally more mobile. I think the yoga is overflowing into other areas - making it easier to stick to other new year's resolutions like eating more healthily, as I have to face myself in the big mirror in my 'yoga room' (spare bedroom) every day!

Cherrypi · 16/01/2019 10:11

Really enjoying it this year. I think this is the longest I’ve stayed up to date. Adrienne is really at the top of her game. Her routines are varied and not too repetitive yet easy to follow. What are people going to do in February?
