Dedicate: 30 days of Yoga with Adriene

Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

I enjoyed the upright pigeon, it's that delicious stretch across the bum and sciatic area that does it for me! More more! I ended up flopping on my back after the video ended and did the lying- on - back version. So good.

IfyouseeRitaMoreno · 13/01/2019 22:12

Just finished. Was nice and easy today. Feeling quite self righteous that I’m keeping it up.

piglet81 · 13/01/2019 22:30

Hi everyone. Really enjoyed day 12 today - nice and gentle but a good stretch. I feel it's doing me good, both the physical practice and also the making-time-for-myself side of things. Being responsible for my own happiness and all that!

Hope you all have a good week ahead Smile

whitershadeofpale · 13/01/2019 22:34

I’m a day behind now but only because I did an hour long vinyasa flow class after a long walk, which was lovely.

So will do 12 and 13 tomorrow.

Redpriestandmozart · 14/01/2019 07:29

Day 12 done but one small criticism, 1/2 pigeon yoga pose wasn't explained as she laid on her back doing a variation pigeon pose while I was on floor and wasn't sure how to proceed. I just stretched up and down onto arms, I would have liked that explained better.

quirkychick · 14/01/2019 07:34

Day 13 done. Not too hard, except the goddess pose and lots of holding as Adriene chats! My legs feel fine today, but my feet are sore, I think it's a combination of the balance poses, which I haven't done in a while, and I've upped my walking. I did use a massage ball on the soles of my feet after.

quirkychick · 14/01/2019 07:35

I also meant to say, how beautiful is the yoga studio she's using this time? That view of the lake!

Redpriestandmozart · 14/01/2019 07:42

After a bit of a google, I found this, in case anyone else preferred to do this pose

Did day 12 this morning. I love pigeon!

Feeling very pleased that I have managed to keep it going now I'm back at work. Work days I set my alarm for 6 and try and practise before kids call on my attention.

For first week I was feeling achy/tired but now starting to feel good. Also back to running after Christmas/illness break and think yoga is helping.

carrie74 · 14/01/2019 09:31

I'm back up to date, dropped kids at their lift to school at 7:40, was home by 7:50 and went straight on the mat, so did Days 11, 12 and 13, finishing just in time for work to start at 9 (I work from home on Mondays). I was getting a little fed up with downward dogs by day 13 😂. Loved the pigeons on day 12, but found holding the wide legged stance on day 13 quite hard on my ankles, and I needed to keep readjusting.

My poor back still aches, but according to Dr Google it's best keep exercising including yoga. I did Adriene's yoga for lower back pain last night and managed it okay. I'm still get getting sharp pain when I bend but it's a bit duller than yesterday. Anyway, Day 13 is in the books too and I thought it was really good for my back and there wasn't anything I couldn't manage (was going to do child's pose if not). I'm glad I can continue my yoga journey. It sets me up for the day with good intentions. I eat less, drink more water and seem to have more focus.

Well done Carrie that was quite the session! I didn't mind Goddess pose too much but I was taking it easy so didn't feel the need to push myself. Hopefully tomorrow's practice is doable for me too!

quirkychick · 14/01/2019 10:50

Ulysses I've done her lower back one before, it's really good. Adriene has several back ones which are all good.

I'm a late starter. I was put off by the 50 and then 40 minutes needed for the first two sessions. However I found some time yesterday to start day 1 and I'm so glad I did.

I carried on with day 2 this morning and I already feel better for it. Also I'm thinking that maybe I CAN complete the 30 days. I'm going to give it a damned good try anyway!

So I've completely lapsed after a crazy week back at work (Ofsted) and now DD ill. I've also got terrible wrist pain which I'm not sure is yoga related but I can't do any downward dogs or planks right now.
But I have been managing to do a tiny bit each day even if not the video and i'm feeling the benefits. I doubt I'll hae time to do a full routine each day but I am recommitting to setting my alarm at 6 so I have time for 10 mins yoga before I need to get ready for work (I'm normally awake by 5 so this shouldn't be as hard as I seem to be finding it - I keep thinking I can't bear to set the alarm earlier in case one fine day I'm still asleep at 6!). Then possibly a further ten minutes after DD in bed.

quirkychick · 14/01/2019 12:49

qumquat I hope your Ofsted went OK. When I did my first Adriene 30 Days, my wrists struggled. What helped me was a wrist support when practising, Adriene's wrist video, swapping to forearm planks, all fours or heart to earth pose. Your wrists will get stronger.

Gumpendorf · 14/01/2019 12:52

I did day 12 yesterday evening after my life changing discovery that yoga does not stop me sleeping!

I'm out most of today with a lot of travelling so will try and fit in day 13 this evening or if not double up later in the week.

Ulysses. So glad you can continue. If it's just muscle pain, stretching exercise is a good antidote. I cricked my lower back last month and it was agony but moving around actually helped. Lying on my back and hugging my knees was my most comfortable position too.

If you've just started or have fallen behind, you don't have to finish by 31 Jan. The videos will remain on Adriene's YT channel and this thread will still be here. Go at your own pace and listen to your own body is always good advice. Smile

Ulysses it's good that your feeling a little better and can continue.

Magnificentbeast don't worry about starting late, that's the beauty of the videos that you can continue whenever you want.

I really enjoy Day 13, I like goddess poset and I think it is some strange hangover from all the squats I did in my classes in my younger days, although the hips don't open quite so far these days Grin

Mrs8 there is loads and loads of Adriene on YouTube to choose from once the 30 days is up, including other 30 day programmes there.

I'm a little behind. I manage 9 and 10 on Saturday and 11 last night. The crow was beyond me and my balances are wobbly but my core and rear are feeling a tiny bit more toned. Hurrah.

Talisin · 14/01/2019 14:28

Adriene also does a calendar every month - yogawithadriene.com/calendar/. Scroll down past the Dedicate stuff and there are links to the old ones to give you an idea.
