Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

Day 8 done. I think I'll join days 7 and 8 together next time i do them, my class often ends with stretches and folds like that, but I need to move a bit first. Also, next time I will pick a cushion which has not been sat on by the dog [makes mental note to wash all the cushion covers] 🙈

Day 8. What onemore said Smile
Still well done to us all for getting through it and on to day 9.

I also need an early night Smile

Me neither @Onemorefireball

I’m pregnant and my sacrum is playing up and the whole coccyx area is a bit “antsy”; was not straining in that set at all but had to just release some poses as I could feel that whole zone away to spasm.

chutneypig · 09/01/2019 20:21

Meditation was just what I needed after a very aggravating day. That said, I’m surprised how hard I found it. In a good way, but really wasn’t expecting it to be so challenging. I hadn’t realised one hip was so much tighter than the other. I did drape my blanket over my lap for most of it as I was definitely chilly!

BerylStreep · 09/01/2019 20:22

I'm a few days behind - have just done day 5 and I am definitely getting better at the downward dog. I still can't cross my legs though - I've got a torn meniscus in one of my knees.

I think today was my favourite so far! I'm quite a fidgety, impatient person so I appreciate having a reason to slow down and guidance as to how to. The hip and hamstring stretches were enjoyable too, especially as I did a fairly hardcore weights and cardio class at the gym earlier tonight. I'm definitely feeling the benefit of daily practice: my legs and back are already improving in flexibility.

VioletCharlotte · 09/01/2019 20:56

I'm a few days behind. I had a tooth taken out yesterday and wasn't feeling up to it. And tonight I've got a man here fixing my central heating. Don't want to scare him away!

Will catch up over the next few days.

daisychain01 · 09/01/2019 22:06

Hi yogis, nice to catch up on Day 8 (Lets celebrate).

Got home after a very hectic day and was almost tempted to give tonight a miss, but remembered it was Meditate and thought I'd give it a try while DH was making dinner.

I find seated forward fold posture challenging particularly with my legs apart. I use a rolled up fleece blanket under my knee to create a micro-bend in my knee and it's a lot easier on my lower back. I also prefer to sit on a small pad to raise my hips.

I could have done a whole hour of meditate!

piglet81 · 09/01/2019 22:11

Namaste. Day 8 done. My hips are so tight and also terribly uneven, I've realised! But I quite enjoyed how different today's practice was. Could happily have gone to sleep on the floor afterwards but have peeled myself away Grin

cheminotte · 09/01/2019 22:16

Day 7 done. Enjoyed it and it got my heart beating nicely. I think my heels are getting closer to the ground in down dog too!

coffeecow · 09/01/2019 22:24

Day 8 done. I agree with PP that I need to move a bit more before I do stretches like that. I just can't get the flexibility straight away. But I enjoyed (and needed) a slower practice.
Ready for day 9 though! Any ideas what to expect?

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 09/01/2019 22:39

Humph. I agree with posters above. I really didn't like today's. I just couldn't do it and it made me so tense and stressed my back hurt when I tried to lie down. To be fair I was pretty grumpy and tense before I started.

I think I need to try it again when I'm in a better frame of mind.

noodlezoodle · 10/01/2019 00:02

I really loved today's and I think I'll do it again when I need a peaceful yoga day. I found that although I was quite comfortable cross-legged, I couldn't lean forward very much at all - but then I sat up on a cushion and could then lean forwards a ton. It's so weird how it only takes shifting position a few inches to completely change what you can do.

Ulysses · 10/01/2019 05:59

I did day 8 last night have a very hectic day at work and coming home to DD7 being unwell and off school. I'm glad I did it though the forward folds were on the painful side, though I agree noodlezoodle the cushions and blankets did help immensely.

My abs are still sore from the previous day! Even worse this morning than yesterday. Day 9 will be emailed out shortly so I am hopefully away to do that soon.

StarJazmin · 10/01/2019 08:43

Catching back up here, did day 6 core yesterday morning, day 7 surya yesterday evening and then day 8 meditate this morning. I agree with the PP who said that meditate would flow on nicely straight after surya for a nice flow/restore session.

Noticing a few tweaks in my body - last night my right shoulder was quite sore after doing the linking hands behind back/overhead position and today my right groin feels a bit pulled after the janu sirsasana (head to knee pose - which is definitely not head to knee when I do it Grin)

I am definitely enjoying getting back into regular practice, but I’m not sure things feel as joined-up-thinking as I was expecting for a 30 day journey? I know I should do as Adriene said in the day 8 video and trust the process.

Day 9 done, after a disappointing couple of days (with myself not Adriene) I really wanted something good and today I enjoyed it, it was a challenge but I feel good about it. I have done the short sharp breaths before on her other videos and they take a bit of practice but she doesn't focus on them for too long.

I haven't done yoga every day for this long since about 6 months ago and am really feeling it, in a good way.

quirkychick · 10/01/2019 10:22

I swapped Day 8 and 7, as I felt rough yesterday (cold). I enjoyed Day 7, but I quite often do sun salutations in the mornings. I might come back and do this again as it's nice to have different variations.

daisychain I find that hard too, even on a cushion and with a micro bend in my legs! I'm not bad at the standing version of wide-legged forward bend, but I assume gravity helps a lot!

DeadBod · 10/01/2019 10:35

Morning all. Day 9 done. I went for a run first so all the stretching afterwards in the session felt marvellous. I wasn't keen on all that quick breathing though.

FiveNightsAtMummys · 10/01/2019 12:15

Did day 9 this morning. Totally got my breathing mixed up! Starting to like downward dog I use to dispise it and my feed don't go flat but there slowly getting better.

sweetkitty · 10/01/2019 12:46

I missed Day 8 yesterday after work I was so sore and stiff. Today is my “day off” I’ve spent all morning cleaning and I’m going off to walk the dog. I’ll double up Days 8 and 9 tonight

whitershadeofpale · 10/01/2019 12:52

I did day 8 late last night. I'm glad it was a slow one as I probably wouldn't have done it otherwise. I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped though. I found it tweaked by bad knee by crossing too much and I can't forward fold to get my head to the floor. Blankets and blocks helped though.

Looking forward to 9 later.

IMissGin · 10/01/2019 15:16

On day 4 here, my favourite so far but I suspect that may be because it was so short

FiveNightsAtMummys · 10/01/2019 16:25

@sweetkitty you might be better doing 9 then 8 if your doing them together, 8 is more slow and relaxing.
