Dedicate: 30 days of Yoga with Adriene

Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

I enjoyed it tonight and I was joined by 17yo dd who has never done any yoga before.

I'm glad she chose today and not yesterday. It would have put her off for life Grin

Onemorefireball · 08/01/2019 22:57

My stomach muscles are sore from yesterday's, but I quite like having sore muscles, so that's ok.

Day 7 done. I enjoyed it. I did it after a very energetic exercise class and a very short run. I'm really enjoying it and hope I stick with it after the 30 days.

IMissGin · 08/01/2019 23:05

I’m doing dedicate on YouTube- only on day 2. Is this the same thing?

sweetkitty · 08/01/2019 23:35

Wasn’t feeling the love for Day 7, it was a bit fast so I just went at my own pace cutting out the cobras. Everyone goes on about getting your feet down in downward dog but I’ve been able to do it from the start and I’m mega unfit and stuff. My wrists, neck and shoulders is where I feel it imbrubbish at planks.

StarJazmin · 09/01/2019 08:53

I was out for a few days with tummy bug, got back to it with day 6 core this morning which wasn’t quite as brutal as I was fearing! Couldn’t quite do all of it but as much as I could, will definitely note it as one to come back to in future.

I might be able to double up tomorrow or Sunday, otherwise I’m a day behind now.

Gin yes it’s all on YouTube uploaded each day but lots of people are on different days. I have to say trying to keep up with the thread is great motivation to show up on the mat though.

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 09/01/2019 09:03

I really really really really enjoyed Day 7, best one for me yet. I liked the speed and - and I know this is weird - but the focus on movement and flow and not sitting still and breathing.

What is the kind of “active” yoga called? Is it Ashtanga or something?

AugustRose · 09/01/2019 09:48

Day 8 done and it's a lovely slow stretch with a blanket and pillow but I'm disappointed as my hips and back were hurting today, I thought it would help but I couldn't get comfortable in any of the positions. And then someone started with a digger outside my window - don't they know I'm trying to do yoga in here!! I'm going to come back to it later as I'm obviously too tight this morning.

Paul ashtanga is the fast one yes, more flows at a quicker pace. I like hatha but some days you do need that faster flow to get the energy going.

EmmaStone · 09/01/2019 10:16

PaulHollywoods ashtanga is quite fast and I think quite prescribed (so you do a series of movements in the same way, and have to master first primary before moving onto next set of movmenets), but I've not done it, so only going on word of mouth.

Vinyasa flow is similar I think to Day 7

I also do power yoga, which is strong, slightly based on ashtanga.

Yin and Hatha yoga both tend to be more about breath.

GreenHatHacker · 09/01/2019 10:20

Day 8 was lovely! Working from home today, so was able to do it as soon as I got up - am still floating around the house :)

Shockers · 09/01/2019 10:45

I started it today. I was shocked by how little movement there is in my left hip. I know I have arthritis and it does cause me pain, but I did go to a weekly class last year, up until July.

I’ve decided to repeat each day twice and do 60 days. Hopefully tomorrow will feel looser.

Cherrypi · 09/01/2019 10:53

Wrap up warm for day 8. I got a bit cold. Keep your socks on. Impressed I’ve kept up to date for this long. Hasn’t happened before. Did anyone else get her giving a speech about her business as the automatic video after this one?

quirkychick · 09/01/2019 10:55

I've still got a bit of a cold, so Day 8 meditate was perfect. I'll catch up with Day 7 later when I've more energy. It sounds more like vinyasa flow, which I've been doing.

Ietthemeatcake · 09/01/2019 10:57

@AugustRose I also found it uncomfortable today. I'm so inflexible, I can hardly fold forward at all, and I find sitting cross-legged uncomfortable too.
I stuck with it but it's not a practice I will return to.
Someone made me really laugh last night and I was surprised how sore my abs were from day 6 though!

quirkychick · 09/01/2019 11:26

letthemeatcake It's taken me several years of doing yoga to sit cross legged easily, though I still use a foam block or cushion. If your knees fly up, you can put cushions under each knee. Forward bends I find quite challenging too, standing forward bend, I'm now quite ok with, but wide-legged sitting forward bend, is still hard. The more you do it (gently and supportively) the easier it becomes.

whitershadeofpale · 09/01/2019 12:48

I won't do mine until late tonight as I need to run some errands after work. Is it relaxing enough to do straight before bed or should I try to fit it in pre-dinner?

FiveNightsAtMummys · 09/01/2019 12:55

I did day 7 yesterday, I enjoyed day 8 I can sit crossed leg and my knees come right down and I can touch the floor so I think I'm flexible that way..but when we had to put 1 leg out to side and lean dorward I had no chance, I can barely bend so I'm not flexible that way at all! Looking forward to day 9.

GreenHatHacker · 09/01/2019 14:30

whitershadeofpale I think you should find this relaxing enough to do before bed. It's helped me stay relaxed all day!

Mailfuckoff · 09/01/2019 17:38

Another day done. Got my 9 year old son to join in which was a small victory

Habadabadoo · 09/01/2019 17:58

Day 8 done. Really pleased I did it but didn't enjoy it at all. Few good stretches on there which didn't really suit my body but at least I'm stretching - but the meditation wasn't good for me. Poor Adrienne was just annoying me slightly with her waffling so I'm not feeling very relaxed! Feel like I've wasted 20 mins! Maybe yoga isn't for me?

FranKubelik · 09/01/2019 18:16

Day 8 done but my least enjoyable day so far. I also can't put my knees to the ground when sitting with crossed legs, or fold very far forward. Unfortunately my frustration with that detracted from the calm meditation. It's a rare down day though because overall I'm really enjoying the sessions so far.

DeadBod · 09/01/2019 18:27

Day 8 done. Not my favourite day but still enjoyable and I'm hoping that I become more flexible.
Do you think if I kept this up then I might achieve the splits? It's something I've always wanted to do.

IMissGin · 09/01/2019 19:16

Day 3 done for me today

Habadabadoo · 09/01/2019 19:17

@DeadBod I like your ambition - maybe I should be aiming for more than just touching my toes!

Onemorefireball · 09/01/2019 19:17

I really didn't enjoy today. I have a really bad headache and a bit of a blocked nose, which the bending over made worse. My hips are too tight to spend that long cross legged and I can't bend far at all when sat down. I did nearly fall asleep on the laying down bit though so I'm going to take myself off to bed now.
