Dedicate: 30 days of Yoga with Adriene

Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

An hour after finishing and I can really feel it in my legs now. Not unpleasant but very ‘we’ve been streeetched’ feeling.

noodlezoodle · 07/01/2019 02:38

I've tweaked my lower back a bit so I skipped the three-legged dog part today, but enjoyed the rest. My high lunges are VERY wobbly! It went by very quickly though.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 07/01/2019 06:40

Feeling very proud of myself! Back at work today so set my alarm for 6am to get up and do yoga straight away. Feels good Smile

Day 5 for me, high lunges were a challenge, but I did it without too much wobbling.

Spudlet · 07/01/2019 07:28

I set my alarm this morning, poked my nose out from the duvet and, erm, stayed in bed. I couldn't face a core session at 6.30am in the cold Blush

Will have to do it later (which probably means with toddler assistance again) so if anyone could reassure me that it's not that bad, that would be great...!

Ulysses · 07/01/2019 07:33

I did Day 5 and I felt I was a bit all over the shop towards the end. Still I did it and I can put my heels on the grounding downward dog quite easily now. Always a good thing!

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 07/01/2019 07:36

I did day 5 last night. I struggled with some of it but I think my heels are a bit closer to the floor in downward dog than they were Grin

Progress!

Slightly dreading tonight. Will be looking out for comments and tips.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 07/01/2019 07:37

Ooh cross post Ulysses! I'm still around an inch away but I've got very tight calves from years of running and not stretching so it'll take me a while.

Day 5 last night was both lovely and challenging for me. My balance is awful (MS) so I stand by a wall to steady myself so the lunges were challenging but the first half was nice. That was the first day I was really sweating though!!

Not sure I am looking forward to core tonight.

Spudlet · 07/01/2019 08:23

Mrsr8 Adriene has a video on her YouTube channel of yoga for when you're unwell... really gentle, soothing stuff. So listen to your body, and if you don't feel up to day 6 but want to do something, you could always do that. Smile

itssquidstella · 07/01/2019 08:30

I really enjoyed day 5 - less waffle and a slightly more dynamic flow. We've got a new, really thick carpet which is making it quite difficult to stabilise and ground myself, so I wobbled a bit going into the first high lunge! Oh well, it adds a bit of extra challenge 😂

Day 3 just done - though I have done other things on a couple of days so have only actually missed one day so far. I started to feel a bit sick and lightheaded again so had to take it easy for 5 mins in the middle and eat a biscuit! I'll have to experiment with perhaps eating a little something before I start.

Gumpendorf · 07/01/2019 09:37

For Mrs8 and anyone else feeling poorly today ThanksThanks

Ooh day 6 done, and there was me saying she is gentle on abs day! I really had to focus on those one leg knee raisers at the start, they are new - but my core feels nice and tight now, I know I'll be feeling that tomorrow.

I have never managed to get my heels on the floor in downward dog, I have a tight achilles in my left heel and don't like to push it, it is almost there on my right side. I did a 10 minutes meditation afterwards as the house is quiet today and now I feel good.

Lollydaydream · 07/01/2019 10:47

Day 6 done, I was feeling ok with it all until that last bit! My arms are wobbly now too. I find it impossible to rest back on my heels and straighten my back up- I've been doing yoga for years in and off but never come across that before- there's always something new.Smile

Cherrypi · 07/01/2019 10:56

I only just noticed the lake too. I found the kneeling back on my feet the hardest bit today.

quirkychick · 07/01/2019 11:44

Just catching up... I did Day 5 today, but feel like I've got a cold coming now Sad. I would also recommend, yoga for when you're feeling unwell, I've done it loads as a nice restorative practice. Also, her intro to Yin yoga: lots of cushions, blankets and relaxation and there's a yoga for women? I think it's called for period pain. I'll see how I feel tomorrow.

Gumpendorf · 07/01/2019 12:25

Day 6 done here too! It was tough. I really struggled to get on the mat on the first couple of days because of a lingering cold so I felt enjoying today was an achievement and a good sign.

I didn't have the strength in my wrists to lift my knee with my other leg raised but managed the pose by lowering the leg, raising the knee and than raising the leg.

I felt the flood of endorphin release afterwards and it's one of those sessions that I want return to.

Oh hi everyone :) just noticed this thread.

I've been doing (and enjoying) Dedicate, big fan of Adriene.

I've just returned to work from maternity leave and have a sleep-refusing one year old so I have to make such an effort to carve out time each day 🙄

DeadBod · 07/01/2019 13:34

Day 6 completed. I found those hovers quite challenging.

Bombardier25966 · 07/01/2019 13:43

Day 6, ouch! Hard work but probably my favourite of all day 6's.

For those with colds, I find the sessions help to unblock my sinuses. Just keep tissues nearby!

FiveNightsAtMummys · 07/01/2019 14:31

I've just done day 5..didn't do it yesterday. Might do 6 later. Is it a killer?

Spudlet · 07/01/2019 14:38

Oooooh that was hard work... I've never had great core strength mind you. Felt that one. Going to feel it more tomorrow!

I think I will return to that one as I could feel it doing nothing me good, but I didn't enjoy it in the same way that I did yesterday.
