Dedicate: 30 days of Yoga with Adriene

Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

’m putting Adriene first so if a days looking dodgy then I’ll go for the morning. I’ve done that for day 2 and 3 and felt so much better in the day

Me too. And I find that even hours after finishing my breathing is deeper. I seem to get more oxygen. It’s a lovely feeling.

I'm behind already Confused

I was out all day yesterday and have a long running cold. Doing Day 2 today and days 3-5 over the weekend. I've noticed the videos are shorter this year iirc so it will be easier to double up.

I'm fairly flexible on times but I can't do exercise late if I want to sleep. I'm a night owl by nature and I have to force myself to relax in the evening if I want to be able to operate in the same time wave as everyone else.

I'm going to do days 3 & 4 tomorrow. A rare night out tonight and I went swimming this morning before work so no time for yoga then. But I'll keep myself in a yoga mindset somehow!

Happy Friday to you all Smile

floribunda18 · 04/01/2019 14:36

I did Day 2 last night and found the planks fine, so I'm pleased that a couple of weeks off from classes and a lot of eating and drinking over Christmas hasn't done that much damage.

Cherrypi · 04/01/2019 14:36

Enjoying today but was still a bit sore from yesterday. Also going to invest in a yoga mat. Does it matter which one I get from t k maxx?

Yogisunflower91 · 04/01/2019 14:46

I love yoga with Adrienne! Have not started the challenge but I highly recommend her "sleepy yoga"'practice for unwinding at the end of the day!

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 04/01/2019 14:50

What a fab tip @Yogisunflower91

Gonna use that going forward into Feb

cheminotte · 04/01/2019 15:01

I did day 1 last night and this morning. Planning your exercise sound like a good err, plan. I know in my heart this would mean getting up earlier of course.

Onemorefireball · 04/01/2019 15:02

I've done it every day so far and whilst I still feel it's a bit slow at times, I am really enjoying it as a chance to be calm and present in the day. Too often I'm on my phone or doing two things at once and it is good to have time to stop and focus.

qumquat · 04/01/2019 16:36

Thank you for the encouragement! I've decided in the spirit of 'self love' as Adrienne would put it. My aim is simply going to be to do some yoga very day, whether that is the 30 days routine or another one (I love the 15 minute 'movement is medicine' morning yoga routine). Today I managed the second half of yesterday's; I love lunges and warrior poses. I also need to do a hiit routine most days to keep my restless leg syndrome at bay so trying to fit both in (plus 12 hours out of the house each day) is crazy, but I'm hoping more yoga will help with the restless legs.

namaste.

LadyLance · 04/01/2019 17:07

I found day 3 a bit of a challenge- the three legged downward dogs were quite hard work for me, and that made my quads feel a bit wobbly for the other stuff. My legs were shaking during tree pose, not in a wobbly way, just from being worked. I did feel a sense of achievement from having done it, though!

I think it's maybe using muscles in different ways, but I really felt like I had done a workout when I had finished, which I didn't feel so much on day one/two. Excited for tomorrow!

I've just ordered a yoga mat online as well, as I have been doing it on a blanket/towel on lino floors which isn't ideal.

jamaisjedors · 04/01/2019 17:07

Just done day 3, a life saver for me at the moment as things are very difficult at home.

Had to fast forward a bit of the blurb at the start to be on time to pick up my son, and was slightly rushed at the end but I still feel a million times better for doing it.

itssquidstella · 04/01/2019 17:34

I've just done day 3 and I'll be honest, it's starting to piss me off now. Way too much waffle and not nearly enough yoga.

I'm here to DO the yoga, not to have an experience, actually, Adriene.

jamaisjedors · 04/01/2019 17:42

Give it a try with the shorter ones.

If you really hate it just do her normal videos, the point of the 30 days is to change your body and mind, hence the pep talks.

itssquidstella · 04/01/2019 18:05

@jamaisjedors was that to me? I've done plenty of her videos in the past and I always find her quite annoying, but I don't think last year's 30 day programme was quite so waffly. I'm sticking with this one because I like having a reason to practise every day, but I find her navel-gazing nonsense frustrating nonetheless!

LadyLance · 04/01/2019 18:08

Surely you can always skip the bit of the video at the start if you don't enjoy it? It's easy enough to use youtube to find the bit where she starts moving.

Talisin · 04/01/2019 18:14

Day three done and easily my favourite so far. First time this run that I’ve been bam, there, right from the begining of the video and able to just let go of everything else (mostly). Really enjoyed myself and the time flew.

Gumpendorf · 04/01/2019 18:29

jamais. I remember people saying she waffled too much last year too. I'm sure she does it to allow people who are less used to yoga to catch up. Last year I was constantly watching the videos, whereas this year I know her cues. It can be frustrating but it's a good slow down and relax reminder for me.

Day 2 completed and I enjoyed the lunges and the warrior poses. I hope there is more in later videos.

PollyFlinderz · 04/01/2019 18:48

I was talking to my daughter about it this evening and she said mum, if there’s any day you just can’t do because it’s too much for you then do the previous day instead.

I’d never have thought of it on my own.

Namechangedtoprotect · 04/01/2019 18:54

I did it after work. Today I did it in the lounge, yesterday I tried my bedroom but not enough space. I had an audience of my children which wasn't ideal but they didn't want to play in their rooms!

daisychain01 · 04/01/2019 18:54

Just finished Day 3. It was enjoyable but my bum muscles were in spasm doing the lunge to warrior to reverse triangle sequence eeeek, must have been from the plank/warriors yesterday. I know plank isn't meant to use the glutes but mine seem to kick in when they want to, how dare they!!!

Tree, wobble wobble wobble today, so side of calf against the sofa technical adjustment Smile was handy to steady me. I want Velcro on my leggings to stop my foot slipping down! Hmm Maybe I can patent a new design of leggings.

For those who don't find the words work for them, maybe focus in on your breathing, positioning of your feet in Mountain pose (are all 4 corners grounded? are you clenching anything you shouldn't?, that sort of practical stuff). I find some days I hold onto the words to stay in the moment rather than my butterfly brain drifting off into that annoying meeting at work, the frustrations of the day. Other times the words just wash over and I use the precious time to float inwardly, rather than mentally being dragged off for the mundane tasks to be done elsewhere. It may help ease the frustration to try different things... yoga for 'just being', not doing,

FranKubelik · 04/01/2019 18:55

Day 3 done. The tree poses were tricky as balancing on one leg doesn't come naturally to me. I like the waffly bits at the beginning as it relaxes me into the practice. Are people feeling the impact physically the next day? So far, I'm not but I have noticed that my posture has started to improve.

PollyFlinderz · 04/01/2019 19:00

I’m feeling the impact physically and have taken a few Brufen but most of all I’m feeling incredibly happy. I know that probably sounds twee but I’m getting something out of it I just never expected to.

LadyLance · 04/01/2019 19:03

@PollyFlinderz I feel similarly, actually, that I'm getting something out of it that I never expected to. I don't know if I'd say I feel super happy, but I definitely feel more content and calm.
