Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

Where's Day 3? I think it should be up by now and I have to do it before the kids get up!

quirkychick · 04/01/2019 07:30

Just catching up and managed all of Day 2. I didn't find following the poses hard, as I do regular yoga but holding them was a bit shaky. I also usually fit in 20mins, not 40 and have had rubbish sleep this week. Feel much better after, though.

Spudlet · 04/01/2019 07:40

Omg, that was haaaard. My legs were burning and my feet were killing me in those final balances (got a bit of plantar fasciitis at the moment I think so they're singing a little).

Still, I got through 🧘‍♀️

chutneypig · 04/01/2019 07:46

Day 3 done now and it was much needed after another night’s poor sleep. It was a gentle start which was just what I needed and I did feel challenged by the second half. In a good way! More leg work thank planks thankfully.

qumquat · 04/01/2019 07:48

I'm struggling with fitting it in already, and I'm off work! I'm a teacher so back at work next week and really not sure how I can fit it in. I'm often awake early with anxiety so thinking I could get up at 5.30 (leave for work at 7) but boy does that make me exhausted just to think about it! Alternative would be 9pm after dd in bed. But then I dont know when I'd do any housework. Annoyed at myself that I'm already struggling.

I did do 20 mins of it yesterday. I think I just have to accept that 20 mins is better than nothing.

NoLeslie · 04/01/2019 08:05

Qumquat anything is better than nothing, well done on doing some of it at all I say. I just did today's and it's a lot easier to find 20 ish minutes than 40 ish.

Day 3 is lovely, well at one point I hated it, but the end was fab.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 04/01/2019 08:07

@qumquat I think the videos go down to around 20 mins from today.

I've been doing it at bedtime. On day one I pit it off all day and nearly didn't bother but read this thread after I'd got into my pjs and decided to give it a go. I had a great night's sleep so I did the same yesterday.

My issue is I don't have la mat so I'm just using my bedroom carpet. I tried a duvet but it was too slippy. Carpet is fine except on my knees. I think I'll buy a mat. Any recommendations for a thick one for dodgy knees?

Get thee to TK Max @KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse

You get some very good ones there for massive discounts and also they will be plentiful right now what with this being January et al

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 04/01/2019 08:17

Fab thanks Paul. I'll go tomorrow.

Last night I discovered that my cat is not as well adjusted to yoga as Adrienne's dog Grin

She kept lying down under me during plank which is quite alarming but at least gave me extra motivation. And she was chasing my hands when I swept them across the floor.

She got shut out of the room when she tried to curl up in my lap when I sat with straight legs. Smile

FuzzyShadowChatter · 04/01/2019 08:31

Today really challenged my balance, felt really wobbly especially at the end with tree. I could get my leg up to the higher position, but staying for any length of time wasn't happening.

I did the previous ones in the afternoon when my kids are all gone doing their own thing (a couple have walked in...and slowly walked back out while I was doing it), but did today's early before all but my lark-daughter got up. She just read in the chair quietly while I got on with things. Not sure when I'm going to do it next week when things go more back to normal.

DAY 3.

Ive just watched today’s video in the hope it will help make more sense later on when I do it. I did rewind some parts of it 4 or 5 times but I’m feeling a bit more confident though I just know my tummy will hinder me again today when changing position in the downward dog.

Me too Mrs8.

It’s lunchtime where I am and I’m planning on doing it around lunchtime Uk time. I’ve a few things to do in the garden this afternoon even though I’ve been out there all morning. It’s been lovely.

whitershadeofpale · 04/01/2019 09:09

I got up early to do Day 3 today. I didnt get quite as promptly as I shouldn’t have though and found that I was a bit distracted at the beginning in a ‘just get on with it’ way rather than properly settling in. It was lovely to do it while the birds were singing away though.

Physically I found it a bit tough and came out of poses a couple of times but liked the mix up to more leg work and the break from too much ab work (mine are a bit sore atm).

Samb79 · 04/01/2019 10:00

Day 2 done, day 3 planned for tonight. I’ve been doing it in my pjs but I’m going to go all out yoga gear for tonight’s session, they’re not as easy to move in and keep coming out of poses to hoik them up.
Found day 2 ok, though I really struggle to get my foot up to the front of the mat or knee to nose. Hopefully I’ll be able to get it closer after the 30 days!

AugustRose · 04/01/2019 10:35

Day 3 done and it was good except for the balances, I really struggle with those so feel slightly deflated as we ended on them. I know it will get better with practice. Anyone else feeling the planks from yesterday, a little sore today!

I work from home but prefer to do yoga in the morning, when the kids go back next week I'll be doing it after the school drop off so the house is quiet and calm Smile

Crocky · 04/01/2019 10:40

Day 3 done. Found it tough staying in a pose for any length of time.

ladybranstonpickle · 04/01/2019 10:53

Day 2 done yesterday, not sure when I can do Day 3 today as am at work until 6, then straight out to dinner at my in-laws.

I will have to do a double session tomorrow morning (Saturday) with Day 3 Observe & Day 4 Feel.

I am really hoping I can stick to the whole month!

Hockneypool · 04/01/2019 11:42

Day 3 completed. I also had the ‘get on with it’ feeling at the beginning. I like the warrior poses but my hips ache a bit from the lunges. As do my shoulders, arms and wrists. It will be interesting to see if the aches ease off over the month or not!

Namaste

I’ve just done today’s session and I’m hanging on to what she said - you’re not here to do Yoga, you’re here for the experience. And that really is it for me. I’m determined to get to the end of the 30 days even if half of it is beyond me but once the 30 days are over I’m going to find personal sessions and start from the beginning.

People have mentioned the waffling and it actually bothered me today at one stage when I was feeling very calm and she started waffling. I’m going to think more about taking up meditation as well.

daisychain01 · 04/01/2019 12:20

When do you all find time to do the practice? Last year u did it in the evening time, but very early morning suits better.

From Monday I'll have to be more organised than this week (still on leave after Christmas). I won't be home until 6pm from Monday so I'll have to get my mat ready otherwise my resolve will be rock bottom, first-day-back blues Sad. This week I've set my goal of 'on the mat' by 5pm latest.

For Day 9 and Day 16 I know I can't do in the morning or evening, so I will have to do those sessions at lunchtime, using my mobile signal. We have a sports hall at work but no WiFi access, so I'm hoping that running YouTube using my data package/phone allowance won't take me over my limit. Hopefully only 2 x 25mins won't harm.... I'm a bit worried using my Samsung phone about coping with 'listen more than watch' - I think I'll do a 'dry run' on Day 7 next Tuesday which is only 17 mins, so if it's a disaster I know I can always redo that evening.

I'm doing today's Day 3 at 5pm, so will checkin later! Very impressive to see lots of people have already done their Day 3 (on the books Grin or in the bag, in UK-land).

Aches will subside the more often you show up on that mat, @Hockneypool Grin

chutneypig · 04/01/2019 12:31

Mondays I know I’ll have to do it the evening and vice versa Friday because of my commute. In the week I’m aiming for evenings as I try and run or do body combat in the morning. I’m putting Adriene first so if a days looking dodgy then I’ll go for the morning. I’ve done that for day 2 and 3 and felt so much better in the day. I try and plan the weeks exercise ahead so I don’t get caught out.

PollyFlinderz · 04/01/2019 12:52

I find time to do it because of the stage of life I’m at. It would have been very difficult many years ago what with 5 children and the youngest severely disabled.
