AIBU to see this accidental rejection email as a red flag?

ElizabethReed · 01/04/2026 11:32

What they do not want
Too senior
This is a major red flag.
They do not want:

  • 15–20 year veteran
  • people who have “done everything already”
  • people who feel too established / too corporate
  • someone who may be less hungry for a builder seat
G specifically said profiles like “I built xxx rm” are probably not the right fit.

I accidentally received this email along with my rejection today. The notes from the hiring manager.

OP didn't get the job but, if she takes them to tribunal, the company will have to give her another thought and will probably have to pay her a significant amount of money for indirect age discrimination.

Fixed it for you.

Probably have to pay her a significant amount of money…..

🤔

MojoMoon · 01/04/2026 21:09

What is a builder seat?

(Yes I googled before asking and it isn't clear)

You don’t understand, you don’t own the thread, it’s not yours at all.

Your post is garbled

its not a red flag as you have been rejected by them

you can be “ helpful” and reply to the e mail with a v polite :

Dear x , thank you for the concise and honest feedback much appreciated. Please do consider me for future roles should any arise

yours x

that way the HR person/ secretary or whoever sent it gets the shock of their lives tomorrow

DO NOT tell them they are un professional as a poster suggested up tread as you never know when your paths may cross again. In the next interview

be classy

I still genuinely don't understand which bit of the OP was written by the OP and which bit was written by the company. I've read it 3 times.

I appreciate that, as well as feeling you can use your anonymity on the internet to be incredibly rude to OP, you don't understand the Equality Act. However, as someone who does, it is clear that OP is likely to have a claim for indirect age discrimination based on the contents of the email she has received. If she succeeds with a claim she would certainly be entitled to compensation in excess of £1,200 just for injury to feelings, and it could well be a five-figure sum, in addition to which she would have a claim for loss of earnings assuming the new job would have paid more than her current job.

The final paragraph that begins "I accidentally received this email" was written by OP. Everything before that is the contents of the email the company sent her accidentally.

Home truths are not rude, OP is incredibly rude, calling people “cunty”, would you employ her? Seriously?

Maybe you could do a no won no fee for her and get a percentage of her five figure sum? 🤣

I know the equality act, I think you’re talking nonsense.

And “not being rude” seeing OPs attitude on here, she needs to address her anger and ability to make coherent arguments before applying for any jobs!

And of course, the “if she succeeds with a claim” is really the crux!

I am going to post again because you had my post removed for quoting your foul language.
You may see 20 years of experince as a positive - they may see it as being inflexible or set in your ways
You may see a career in the industry as establishing your credentials they may see it as harking back to old fashioned working.
Stress your ability to learn and adapt to new stuff,

Do not slam people on the internet and use words like **y and use really poor grammar
If your name is the same as your username here they will do a search

I just really would not want to work with you

No, I’ve been performing my actual job that I’m employed within. Not all of us are unemployed that are applying for roles

I’m sorry OP, but your written English isn’t brilliant, maybe brush up on this before you apply for further jobs?

You clearly don't know the Equality Act as demonstrated by your responses to me on this thread. The email reproduced in OP's first post looks like clear evidence of unlawful indirect age discrimination and the comments I have made re the level of compensation she would receive are based on case law.

but you’re allowed to hire juniors. You’re allowed to specify 5-10 years experience or several years (meaning 2-3). That isn’t by itself age discrimination.

@prh47bridge has already answered this point as have I. It's clear there are some real misunderstandings about discrimination and the supporting legislation by other posters.
