If you, as a manager, heard this at work...?

Would you tell the other manager.

The team who sit next to me in the office (small wall partition), their manager is off this week and one of their team came in this morning and joked with 2 of the other members about their manager being off.

She said "we can relax now ahhhh "name" is off all week"

This person has said something before which I did tell the manager about. I feel irritated that she openly complains about her manager.

WIBU to tell the manager when they return next Monday?

What a killjoy. Your poor colleagues.

ThisZanyPinkSquid · 11/02/2025 09:17

Definitely a joke and you are being sensitive

Yellowrosessmellpetaly · 11/02/2025 09:38

I agree the whining tell tale tit would must definitely come out of it badly.

Perhaps ask yourself why they irritate you so much. Work on that first.

Unclench. No way does this need passing on. I'd probably say that to my managers face🤣

Me too!! In fact I have frequently

foodiefil · 11/02/2025 10:42

this has to be a joke. No adult would consider repeating this to the manager. They came to work didn’t they?

seriously this is not a repeat scenario. Very spiteful and childish to do so and not at all professional.

FartSock5000 · 11/02/2025 11:52

@Chaicoff why? It was just a joke. Leave them alone and stop being a tattle.

Your role is to manage your own team not act like the Joke-Police and tell on subordinates who've not done anything wrong.

🙄

mrsjg · 11/02/2025 12:16

We would be quite happy that our boss was off work because things would run smoother without her!

Reallyneedsaholiday · 11/02/2025 13:28

I’m assuming that OP is a troll, as they haven’t returned. We used to say things like this, all the time, and actually mean it as well. Not that we wouldn’t do our work, but our lives were far easier without someone helicoptering around the office causing havoc.
If they don’t do their work when the manager is out the office, then if the manager doesn’t pick up on it, they’re not much of a manager in the first place, and the comment was justified. If they DO do their work when the manager is out of the office, there’s no need to pass it on, is there?
You sound like a very unpopular work colleague tbh.

What a snitch!!

TheTavern · 11/02/2025 17:49

It sounds like a joke and you sound like a bit of a snitch

Emanresu52 · 11/02/2025 18:18

Why would you? One word, snitch.

Mooandmae1 · 11/02/2025 18:40

I'm pretty sure my team have said a lot worse about me and I've definitely said worse about my managers directly to them. It's called humour.

LaughingCat · 11/02/2025 18:47

Good god, I’m a manager and heard much worse than that about another manager but not said anything. Not my team, none of my business, despite how much I like the manager. It’s either a joke - we’ve all said the same before - or there’s a reason why they’re saying that and you don’t know the context. Either way, leave it alone.

JayJayj · 11/02/2025 19:07

I don’t think I’ve ever worked anywhere where we haven’t said the same thing when the main manager is off.

Stop acting like a child trying to tell on someone!

moomoo1967 · 11/02/2025 19:10

Wow you sound like a bundle of fun ..........not

lemming40 · 11/02/2025 19:12

Wow. You sound like a barrel of laughs.

Candy999 · 11/02/2025 19:19

I bet you are fun at parties ….
The fact you are even considering it I can tell exactly which management style you have

Andsoitbeganagain · 11/02/2025 19:24

I wouldn't tell them. I came back from a few days leave last month to have another manager break their neck to fill me in on the many and varied misdemeanours of my team members. I was more irritated with her for being a tell tale than I was with any of the team. I'm their manager, I know they are a pain but they are my pain. Everyone else can stay in their own lanes.

Chaicoff · 11/02/2025 19:25

I was in a bad mood yesterday.., a very bad mood. I'm due on and I'm having a hard time with ex DH at the mo.

Hear me out... this member of staff is 23, she has a habit of moaning about everything.
When I told her manager before it was because she was saying her manager was a bitch and needs to retire. She got in trouble for that and apologised. Her manager is my age and good at her job, she knows a lot and she's worked hard to get where she is. I feel this member of staff has no respect for her, or me for that matter.

Yesterday when she was saying they could all relax, it pissed me off!!

YABVU. Incredibly unprofessional of a manager to be gossiping about staff.

laraitopbanana · 11/02/2025 19:30

Gosh. That was a joke!

You need a holiday.

you can’t have a 23year old gal have the best of you. She should know better but then again she is 23…

Breathe. Go on holidays we understand you ranting but…no no no spilling to managers. That is just looking bad on you.
