If you, as a manager, heard this at work...?

Would you tell the other manager.

The team who sit next to me in the office (small wall partition), their manager is off this week and one of their team came in this morning and joked with 2 of the other members about their manager being off.

She said "we can relax now ahhhh "name" is off all week"

This person has said something before which I did tell the manager about. I feel irritated that she openly complains about her manager.

WIBU to tell the manager when they return next Monday?

That sounds like a normal jokey comment, no I wouldn't tell the other manager.

this

Sneezeless · 10/02/2025 16:35

Well, you are quite the toot aren't you?

ForSparklyLemonLurker · 10/02/2025 16:40

Do you have many friends?

Jimmyneutronsforehead · 10/02/2025 16:40

Have you never heard when the cats away the mice will play?

This is just a simplified variation. It isn't an offensive statement.

Isn't that almost a compulsory comment for someone to make when a boss is off

Report it??? I bet you're fun at parties.

HopeItHelps · 10/02/2025 16:45

What's wrong with you??

Exactly.

Nobody likes a grass @Chaicoff

Sallycinnamum · 10/02/2025 16:51

Yeah do it if you want everyone to hate you OP!

MieleLimone · 10/02/2025 17:11

You, as a manager shouldn't be eavesdropping on other people's private conversations and then gossiping about them.

Are you for real? It is clearly a joke.

Are you jealous that the other manager gets on well with their team?

Minuethippo · 10/02/2025 19:29

This your first ever post on mumsnet ?

BrightonFrock · 10/02/2025 20:25

Yet another one-post wonder 🙄 Let’s place our bets - is this a wind-up, or a flounce because everyone has said YABU (soon to be followed by a thread removal because the OP is “concerned she has been identified in real life”)?

theworriermum · 10/02/2025 20:30

Snitch

Oblomov25 · 10/02/2025 21:00

Agree, poof, op never returns, thread deleted.

DoYouReally · 10/02/2025 21:13

If any of my colleagues reported this, I would hope my professionalism overrode my instinct to laugh.

Give your manager a bit more credit, they'll know who works and who doesn't and will spot patterns if things change in their absence.

It's just chit chat.

HobbyHorse30 · 10/02/2025 21:33

It sounds like a joke to me. If you, as a manager, have a genuine issue with a colleague’s conduct in the office then you should address it instead of waiting a week to tell tales.

I’m sure my teams love the peace and quiet the get when I go on annual leave!

Branwells77 · 10/02/2025 21:44

Is this your first job since leaving school? I’m sorry but what your colleagues said is a joke that the majority of people would say in their situation, I would suggest you attend a comedy club to open you up to jokes but I’m scared you will complain about the comedians.

Offwegotomarket · 10/02/2025 21:54

Even the managers make comments like that about their own managers. You sound a bit of a playground snitch, you do know most managers are secretly judging the petty snitches. They know its tactical to put yourself in favour and would probably do the same to them given the opportunity.

soundsys · 10/02/2025 21:54

HelloMyNameIsElderSmurf · 10/02/2025 13:49

If you reported that back to me as a manager I'd ignore you and mentally characterise you as a clipe who needs to keep her eyes on her own work.

Total nonsense, a jokey comment and none of your business.

This is exactly what I was going to say!

dottydaily · 10/02/2025 22:20

No,don't say anything...they just joking..most people talk about there managers...its normal

Franjipanl8r · 10/02/2025 22:33

This kind of “us” and “them” mentality for staff and managers is completely normal and healthy. It shows a good team mentality.

Botanybaby · 10/02/2025 23:26

God how fun are you

What a bratty little shit stirrer

witwatwoo · 11/02/2025 06:41

Well, aren't you a little tell tail

ExpressCheckout · 11/02/2025 08:31

LuckysDadsHat · 10/02/2025 13:49

Well aren't you a joy to work with! Come on most people have this sort of joke in their workplace. Stay out of it, it's not your team and not your business.
