If you, as a manager, heard this at work...?

Would you tell the other manager.

The team who sit next to me in the office (small wall partition), their manager is off this week and one of their team came in this morning and joked with 2 of the other members about their manager being off.

She said "we can relax now ahhhh "name" is off all week"

This person has said something before which I did tell the manager about. I feel irritated that she openly complains about her manager.

WIBU to tell the manager when they return next Monday?

God no! It sounds like a joke. I’d maybe remove the stick from my behind and keep my nose out….

i say this as a manager!

HowardTJMoon · 10/02/2025 15:27

Why does this remind me of that line from Sister Michael in Derry Girls: "You will go far in life Jenny. But you will not be well liked."

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 10/02/2025 15:28

Also if another manager said this to me about my team I’d be very 🤨 unless there’s a context of performance queries etc

Oblomov25 · 10/02/2025 15:29

The fact you even considered reporting this shows how incredibly petty and nasty you are.

It's a fact that most teams like it when a manager goes on holiday, because the atmosphere changes, it's more relaxed. Even if they worked doubly hard, the atmosphere is different.

If you don't know that, then you are a fool. You sound petty and unpleasant with a total lack of people skills and staff understanding.

Same.

It's normal joking around. I manage three teams and I tell them not to plan any coups while I'm off 😁

No!

If we lived in a normal, hierarchical, respectful country of some 40 or 50 years ago, I would say - definitely complain to the manager. But unfortunately we live where we live - no hierarchy, no respect, no dignity, so I would say - let it go, don't report, you will be thought the odd one out, unfortunately, times have changed and work ethic have changed beyond repair.

What the… 🤣

you really think people 50 years ago weren’t complaining about their managers?!

Quitelikeit · 10/02/2025 15:32

please get a grip

people say much worse about their boss 😂😂😂

that is nothing!

And inferior women would be in the kitchen where they belong.

You hoping trump and musk come along and save us from these ridiculous notions of equality?

I am a woman and I regret to say that we don't need Trump or Musk to save us from the notions of equality - we are doing a pretty good job ourselves, not a single chess champion among us, practically absent meaningful Nobel Prizes (sciences and medicine) and lamentable lack of female composers. I am genuinely sad.

Kerrylass · 10/02/2025 15:35

You seem like you'd be great fun at parties

menopausalfart · 10/02/2025 15:39

If my employees said this about me, I'd laugh along with them. Surely you can't be serious?

HellonHeels · 10/02/2025 15:40

Have you restarted the Stasi?

midlifeattheoasis · 10/02/2025 15:44

I bet you're popular at work!

IkeaJesusChrist · 10/02/2025 15:48

Christ.

Justalittlehandhold · 10/02/2025 15:50

Non event! Move on!

SallyWD · 10/02/2025 15:56

I work in a team of four. We all love our manager but also enjoy it when he's not in the office. We can be a bit more relaxed when he's away and we say it.
He wouldn't mind at all if he knew he said it. He'd probably just laugh and say "I bet you are!".
I don't really understand your mentality that makes you want to report a harmless and very human remark.

Influencerofcrap · 10/02/2025 14:01

If your post is anything to go by, I’m sure your team probably feel the same about you!

Haha yep!!! Bet they do.

Rewis · 10/02/2025 16:06

This joke is said in every job eveywhere by everyone whenever the manager is out. If you manage people, they make the same comment whenever you're off.

Actually, if the other manager was offended by this then I'd seriously consider resigning. Couldn't deal with management like this.

Saggyknickers · 10/02/2025 16:09

You sound like one of those people who reported their neighbours to the police for doing an extra walk during covid OP...

2025willbemytime · 10/02/2025 16:13

Tell tale.

SnowdropPancake · 10/02/2025 16:18

No. In 25 years many of which at varying levels of seniority, it would never have occurred to me to think this comment was something the other manager needed to know.

Topsyturvy78 · 10/02/2025 16:19

For goodness sake are you always such a literal thinker? I thought tattle tales ended in the playground.

Tillow4ever · 10/02/2025 16:28

Oh i really want to know what the last comment you reported was.

You clearly don't like this person - go ahead and report it, it will help build up a case against you for workplace bullying.

Sounds like an every day office comment.

Miaowzabella · 10/02/2025 16:29

What's to tell? Your colleague has not said anything defamatory, she hasn't divulged anyone's private information, she has not confessed to doing anything which would amount to misconduct or a crime.
