Not much work and low pay but not much choice if you can't go out to work unfortunately.

I am not concerned - it's usually quiet post new year and the weekend, I am just pottering round the house for another hour and then see what comes in. I doubt the work is going elsewhere, its only 9:50 am and until the clinics are completed then the work will trickle in🙏

olddoglover · 06/01/2026 10:36

@Gally123 no better today, hope it improves

Gally123 · 06/01/2026 10:41

@olddoglover worst at the moment I would say!
Also was thinking, no messages/emails to wish us a Happy Christmas etc. I'm sure there was at one time, with thanks for our hard work (as well as asking who would be working between Christmas and New Year). I know DICT8 gradually stopped this (as well as the diaries and the note books).

olddoglover · 06/01/2026 10:42

@Gally123 I thought exactly the same. Not appreciated at all!

Happy new year fellow transcribers. No diary, no notebook, no thank you, what a surprise and to top it all think there are new proof readers, nit-picking on spellings etc I've been using for god knows how many years, now they are wrong! So as per usual I will just ignore and delete the emails and carry on as usual.

Gally123 · 19/01/2026 14:56

Just a query - has anyone upgraded their laptop/computer to Windows 11 or bought a new one and had any issues with their footswitch? Since working from home I am on my third footswitch, which has actually lasted the longest but was bought specifically due to its compatibility with Windows 10. Thanks

olddoglover · 19/01/2026 18:09

@Gally123 hi I had no issues with my foot pedal when I bought my new laptop which was windows 11. My foot pedal is an old Infinity one. Good luck with sorting it.

Gally123 · 19/01/2026 20:08

@olddoglover Thanks. Still getting to grips with my new laptop (it's currently back in the box). I was just testing it yesterday, adding my email, and a few websites. It was just an afterthought about whether the foot pedal would work. I'll try it next weekend. I need plenty of time to get used to new devices, not rush during a work day and panic if things go wrong.

I think the new proofreaders must be A👀...

Has anyone been contacted to do other transcription work, I got contacted by a company and the test was insane. I have been typing for over 35 years and would never have passed the test they set.

A 30 minute audio conversation to be done in 45 minutes and edited. Reading the instructions and testing foot pedal etc took over ten minutes into the test.

olddoglover · 20/02/2026 22:12

@Marlo52 No. How did they find you? I wouldn't like conversation - tried that in a test once before - much more difficult than a clinic letter.

OP posts:
Marlo52 · 20/02/2026 23:41

It was through linkedin.

Marlo52 · 21/02/2026 00:07

I knew I wouldn't go for this work as it was a lower rate of pay than I was used to. It would have just kept me back from the work I already had.

I was thinking it would maybe be good to have back up work perhaps so I did think I would give the test a go, out of curiousity and perhaps test myself.

Maybe it would suit some people out there, "Language Insight", if they are used to that kind of work with typing conversations.

It would be preferrable if they let you know though beforehand what was expected and the rules before the test,.

olddoglover · 21/02/2026 07:05

I agree it would be nice to have a back up plan. Unfortunately haven't found one yet!

Haven’t RTWT but isn’t AI decimating this kind of work? There are programs to write up consultations in real time, as the GP/ consultant etc is speaking to the patient.

Gally123 · 23/02/2026 19:56

@TheGander but someone has to make sense of what the AI programme has produced. Turn it into a sentence. You would be surprised at what rubbish AI can produce esp if the dictator has an accent or there is other noise in the room, someone coughing or sneezing. AI software cannot produce finished letter quality work.

TheGander · 23/02/2026 22:45

That’s true. I basically read medical letters for a living ( I do prescription reviews in GP practices). I do a fair bit of mental correction of syntax/ medical words etc as I go along. I don’t like to see human skills pushed out by AI so I hope the work doesn’t dry out 🤞.
