I am thinking of trying Match Betting my self. I don't want to spend all my time doing survey sites for a pittance.

Yes @Lougle, that's exactly what I thought.

CherryRipe1 · 24/02/2024 22:11

@dawngreen I think you are very entrepreneurial.

popcorncake · 24/02/2024 22:17

I think the Idea is that because you are using the fre bets after the initial investment if £10 to get £10 of free bets, you take out your £10 from winnings, and use the money win to continue betting.
So you don't ever 'lose/use' your own money after that

Ooooh I see! Thank you ☺️ yeah I can see now why it’s not really betting at all as if done properly you never actually lose

You have to find odds similar odds for each eventuality and you use free bets to make sure there's never any of your money being spent

Quick query- once you’ve used the betting site’s free bet (for joining up) what happens then? Surely they don’t constantly give out free bets do they- So where does the money come from to continue doing it? (Sorry if that’s a stupid question 😂)

There are offers all the time eg free bet on horse racing this weekend with coral, superboosts with bet 365, build a bet offers etc.
start with the simple bet/get offers.

You also need to find new offers or super boosts or refund offers etc to continue to make money.

On the matched betting, you get free daily spins and such on some of the sites. So you might win a few quid a week on those too.

I stopped doing it because I was earning more doing a bit of bookkeeping on the side, but I'm not now - I just waste hours on here and on tiktok etc so might start doing it again if I can remember how!

Sorry no I said that I want use the money I get from match betting or some other hustle to buy the land. Then charge £10 each tabletop and do that each month.

But why on earth do you need to buy land to do that?! To use it for a couple of hours each month? Just hire a village hall for £30 an hour, charge £10 a table and if you have enough people you'll make plenty of money! No need to buy land, (that you can only use when the weather is ok).

Matched betting. But like a pp said once you get restricted by bookies you can't earn much. I got to about £7k before it dried up. And now I do leaflet distribution. Doesn't pay much but gets my steps in!

Where did you find a leaflet distribution job? I'd really enjoy that!

Penguinsmum · 28/02/2024 20:22

I just googled leaflet distribution jobs in my area and a few came up. I actually really enjoy it!

@dawngreen

like the other poster I was going to ask what you were going to do with the land. I assumed you were going to do the table top sales to raise the money for the land, not do that on the land.

i hoped you were going to say something really unusual!

have you tried doing this on a hired site first?

I may see what's out there regarding renting land. I have a few idea's for using the land. I don't like the prices, and the limits involved with hiring a hall in my area.

I write books and work in the supermarket.

It depends, from month to month, which is the side hustle. Some months I get far more in royalties than I earn in my PAYE job, some months it's the other way round. So I could be said to have two side hustles and no real job...

You reminded me of my business I ran for 6 years. I used to be the owner of a small indie bookshop.

As I enjoy cooking, been thinking of doing lunch boxes for people at work, hopefully offering fresh, cost effective and convenience. Any ideas for type of lunches are welcome and appreciated :)

I always use Topcashback for buying on line. And I love doing the Microsoft rewards too. Just got £5.70 from Topcashback, and nearly gained enough points from the Microsoft rewards for another £5.

Match betting. Risky and not guaranteed.
Easy to get carried away and addicted then resulting in a loss.

I don't have a side hustle as such, but I do have a large amount of stuff so always selling on vinted.

Matched betting is not risky.

AlasBeep · 29/02/2024 23:10

I don't think that matched betting is risk-free - I think once someone knows how gambling works, they might be tempted to place a bet or two or three.

I wouldn't want to be involved in or associated with the gambling industry in any way. I appreciate that this might not be a popular viewpoint on MN though.

MamaMode · 29/02/2024 23:30

I do focus groups as a side thing. Signed up to about 25+ companies so I get studies regularly enough to make a couple of hundred a month minimum. I do have a method of rotation though, so that I'm not applying to the same companies within a 3 month period

AnnetteKurtan · 29/02/2024 23:36

When people say they make say 4k on matched betting, is this in a year?
and how much time would you say is invested?

I have made 4K since I started - so over three years, but I only really do football and horse racing offers. You need to invest time at the beginning to understand the different types of offers and there are videos you can watch which take you through the process step by step. After that you only need to spend 15 minutes per day (depending on the number of bookies you have accounts with ) checking offers. There are more offers at the weekend or for major events eg grand national so that requires more time.

you are missing the point: matched betting is not gambling. You know exactly how much you will ‘win’ regardless of the outcome of the event.
Matched betting does not support the gambling industry: you are taking value from the bookies and this is why matched betters get ‘grubbed’ which means you are no longer able to take advantage of any of their offers.

AlasBeep · 01/03/2024 08:39

@ShanghaiDiva, no, I understand the concept of matched betting because MN bangs on about it all the time. I was stating that for some people it could become an entry point to gambling.

AlasBeep · 01/03/2024 09:15

A quick Google shows that matched betting has led to problems for some people.

because they went onto do normal betting.... not because matched betting in of itself is risky...

the only risks with matched betting are: 1. making a mistake and 2. thinking you're great at gambling and putting "normal" bets on.

shearwater2 · 01/03/2024 10:29

I'd quite like to do something like advising people on weight loss and nutrition, but don't want to work for one of the big companies or do a degree, or make a lot of money out of it, just learn enough to feel I could give good advice, get insurance and help someone out, and maybe move into it more in semi-retirement. Was looking at FutureFit but read some bad reviews. Would love to hear if anyone else has done this.

AlasBeep · 01/03/2024 10:32

I appreciate your point, but nonetheless matched betting is risky because some people might go on to normal betting 🤷‍♀️.

NigelDebster · 01/03/2024 11:10

@SpryAmberSeal would you mind explaining how this works? What does your website do? Do you use it for anything else?
