I am thinking of trying Match Betting my self. I don't want to spend all my time doing survey sites for a pittance.

Not a side hushed as such but I go to my local "save it from landfill" food bank and get all the veg and fruit I can have. Then I ferment it, make sauerkraut, chutneys, pickles, jam etc. it means I've always got gifts to hand for family members and I have a never ending supply for myself. I also prep and freeze the stuff that I can't use. Costs me £2 a week and I probably save £25-40 a week in fresh store bought fruit and veg.

Following with interest!

MB and reviews/surveys seems to be a popular one

As I enjoy cooking, been thinking of doing lunch boxes for people at work, hopefully offering fresh, cost effective and convenience. Any ideas for type of lunches are welcome and appreciated :)

Can I ask how did you start with this? I know nothing about it but am curious.

I started with team profit and all the details are in the website. There are other sites which offer a monthly subscription service but it’s easy to do yourself and there are videos online which show you exactly what to do. Start with one of the big bookies eg Ladbroke as they offer a really easy opening deal called a bet/get and take it from there.

user1474490860 · 24/02/2024 10:13

I've reverted to my original user name as my side hassle is very unpopular.

I breed dogs. I have done so for many years. I started out of desperation as I couldn't find THAT home reared puppy, so had to get one from the big show breeders ... long story short, it is now a P/T job in terms of earnings.

It does take up a lot of time and it's more a labour of love and a lifestyle than a side hussle.
I don't earn nmw if you look at hours v profit. But it does give us a cash injection for extras like holidays or paying off car loans or chunks on mortgage.

However, I wouldn't recommend this unless you have the backing of very experienced people. Breeding domestic animals is equally art and science... you need to get it right from the word go.

dingdongdoo89 · 24/02/2024 10:26

@popcorncake I signed up to a site called Outplayed. They have a free trial which lets you go through all the tutorials and they will teach you everything you need to know. After that there are different levels of subscriptions - I pay £30 a month which I make back within days. This subscription lets me use all calculators you need, tutorials and a daily list of all free bet offers across all bookies.
It's not at all risky as long as you take the time to watch the tutorials and pay attention to what you're doing. I've been doing it for 18 months so far. I would never move on to any other sort of side hustle until I'm gubbed from all bookies

popcorncake · 24/02/2024 11:10

@ShanghaiDiva and @dingdongdoo89 thank you so much!

I'm going to look into this but will research it well first so I know all the terms etc

I do some language tutoring, translation, proofreading, sewing jobs (alterations or repairs) and repairs of costume jewellery. On and off as time allows, it’s mainly friends and neighbours putting work my way.

lifeissobloodyhardsometimes · 24/02/2024 12:56

@dingdongdoo89 I've just signed up to a site that helps you do this but it's also got me to sign up to something called markets. The things that's confusing me is that you need a few hundred in that account to be able to place any bets. Does that mean you always have to have a few hundred lying around spare to be able to do match betting?

lifeissobloodyhardsometimes · 24/02/2024 12:57

I do a second job cleaning offices 4am -6am Mon- Fri. As well as working FT for nhs (office based) the week. I'm also considering an eve cleaning job for a few months to clear debt

You are amazing. Well done.

Long ago I did 2 jobs to help my kid thru University. I know how hard it can be.

FancyJapflack · 24/02/2024 13:09

I do have to laugh at people who say matched betting is risky/addictive. Look, if you know fuck all about something maybe don’t advise others about it…? 🤨

It is not risky and there’s nothing addictive about it because it isn’t gambling. If there’s an element of excitement about it you are not matched betting. You’re gambling.

Sunshineandrainbow · 24/02/2024 13:12

I am a single parent and struggle with one wage so I work 9 - 5 and two evenings a week work 7pm - 1am for community nursing.
Tides me over but the tax on the evening job is frustrating.

dingdongdoo89 · 24/02/2024 13:24

@lifeissobloodyhardsometimes Yes smarkets is the exchange site. So you'll use this site to lay the opposite bet to the one you've laid on the bookies site.
So in very simple terms I would put a bet on for arsenal to win at William hill and arsenal to lose at Smarkets. The calculators on the Outplayed site will tell you exactly how much to bet on each so you get a guaranteed profit.
To answer your question, the more you have as a float on Smarkets the better. So I think I put about £200 in my Smarkets account when I first started. But the way matched betting works means you will never lose this money

You do need some money to start as you you will need to offset your bets in smarkets. You can start with £50. Once you have built up your profit you can withdraw your original investment. I have about £350 at the moment in smarkets and across various bookies but it’s all profit. I let it build to about £600 then withdraw £200 or £300 and keep betting with the balance

Exactly this! My DH always asks how much I've won and doesn't get it when I say I always win but don't appear remotely excited about it Grin

Exactly. It’s not gambling as you know exactly how much you will ‘win’ regardless of the outcome.

@Andthedishranawaywiththespoon

i don't know how to say this without sounding patronising, but 'well done you!!'
why not give the evening one a go, you can always give it up if it starts to feel 'too much'

The relief of being out of debt will make it all feel worthwhile!

Can I ask how did you start with this? I know nothing about it but am curious.

There's a lot of information on money-saving expert forums. I did it years ago when I was on mat leave and earned a few hundred quid, but I got bored and went onto something else.

My boyfriend did it for a while but he got bored too. You could easily earn a fiver a day from little effort, but more if you can take advantage of the free bets on new account sign ups. I used a spreadsheet when I did it, but my boyfriend was able to do it in his head.

I’m a lecturer and do bits of writing work for our awarding body. I also manage my hairdresser’s social media (I teach marketing) for the salon which I get a monthly fee for, and all the haircuts I can eat!

@Judystilldreamsofhorses

are you down to your only available option now being a no1??

dawngreen · 23/02/2024 21:00

Read my post above.

@dawngreen

like the other poster I was going to ask what you were going to do with the land. I assumed you were going to do the table top sales to raise the money for the land, not do that on the land.

i hoped you were going to say something really unusual!

have you tried doing this on a hired site first?

MelSilver · 24/02/2024 13:42

I did matched betting but a few years ago when the offered were better. There's still money to be made but it's not as easy as it once was. I made a lot over around 4 years around 75k and paid off the mortgage :) it's like anything, the more time and effort, the more rewards you get.

Amugwithoutahandle · 23/02/2024 23:25

I look after people’s dogs and the occasional horse at my place when they go away on holiday or on business trips. And I sew cosmetic pouches, sponge bags and make up bags (three sizes) and sell them at local markets.

@Amugwithoutahandle

id love to look after a horse here! Unfortunately I currently live in an apartment!!
