How do you sign off on work Emails?

I used to sign off Kind regards but DD28 says this is very bad!! and at least change it to Best Regards.
I am re-joining the workforce after several years out so am a bit clueless on the correct sign off etiquette. So how do you do it?

Generally "Many thanks" because I am generally always asking people to do something.

alwayslearning789 · 22/02/2022 21:49

@chopsadoodle

Peace out fuckers
Brrrrrap brrrrrrrap

Yeah.. preferred sign off:)

LightSpeeds · 22/02/2022 21:54

I say 'Best wishes'.

However, if I'm asking someone to do something for me, I say 'Many thanks'.

BoredZelda · 22/02/2022 21:57

I miss the days when there were fixed rules about this stuff.

I hate all this kind regards and best wishes shit. I just say thanks and will do until someone comes up with what the actual rules are.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 22/02/2022 22:13

I used to work for a national gym chain and all the gym staff would sign off their emails "healthy regards"

Cringe fest!!!!

gogohm · 22/02/2022 22:15

Kind regards usually unless very formal then it's yours sincerely

Tee20x · 22/02/2022 22:24

Best regards doesn't even make sense in my brain

TinDogTavern · 22/02/2022 22:24

I want to work with you @chopsadoodle 🤣

hugoagogo · 22/02/2022 22:27

EOM Is tbe best Grin

MumUndone · 22/02/2022 22:31

Either 'thanks' if I'm asking for something, or otherwise just my name. Can't be arsed with the politics of regards / kind regards etc.

chopsadoodle · 22/02/2022 22:34

@TinDogTavern I am a delight to be honest Grin

Off topic somewhat; I actually got an out of office (well, a mail delivery failure notification) the other day from a chap outside of our organisation. He stated he'd deactivated his email account entirely so my message hadn't been delivered and if it was still urgent I was to contact him when he's back.
No referring to a colleague etc.
I'd love to have the brass neck to do that.

Itsnotdeep · 22/02/2022 22:41

How do the Young People sign off?

I use many thanks mostly these days. Kind regards if I've never met them.

I have had bw before. which is a bit annoying.

Keladrythesaviour · 22/02/2022 22:44

Kind Regards is my normal work signature, but in later emails I'd probably switch to just Many thanks, my name.

Rummikub · 22/02/2022 22:47

@LightSpeeds

I say 'Best wishes'.

However, if I'm asking someone to do something for me, I say 'Many thanks'.

A colleague told me not to say thanks as it suggests an expected compliance. What do you think? I thought it was just nice/polite! But then I’m not particularly aware of social etiquette
RampantIvy · 22/02/2022 22:51

I have kind regards as part of my email signature because I am lazy. If it is someone I have a good rapport with I amend it to kindest regards.

ThreeFeetTall · 22/02/2022 23:00

This has been a surprising amusing read!

I worked with someone who started her emails with 'Greetings' which always makes me smile, makes me think she is saying 'Greetings, earthlings' Grin

I just say 'Thanks' usually

Oooh that's top tier that is, imagine coming back to an empty inbox rather than countless emails with ever increasing panic because none of them have read the out of office auto reply. Glorious!

ThreeFeetTall · 22/02/2022 23:01

@daisyjgrey
Is your Doris a Quaker by any chance? 'In friendship' is quite a standard Quaker sign off in my experience.

daisyjgrey · 22/02/2022 23:14

@ThreeFeetTall

Ooh I'm not sure! It's not obvious if so.

"In friendship" still makes me quite furious either way though Grin

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/02/2022 23:22

I hate 'Kind regards' with a passion. If you're sending me an email with that as your sign-off, you'd better hope you don't want something from me as 'Kind regards' will sent it to the back of my priority list. It's cold and uptight and there's nothing kind about it. And yes I know my reaction isn't rational but I don't care.

Most people in my field use Best regards, rarely Kind regards (thank goodness!)

Much of my job is asking / chasing for things so I tend to use Many thanks or Many thanks in advance or even Many thanks, as always. Same when I worked in France, I used 'merci d'avance' a lot.

I also do the passive-aggressive Regards when I have the hump, like many on this thread or when I just plain don't like/respect you.

But if I like you and it's informal I'll use Cheers.

I don't like Best or even worse Rgds. Rgds?!! Seriously?! You're so busy that you can't type out the full word?!!

HousePlant9 · 22/02/2022 23:24

Always end Kindest Regards unless they’re getting on my nerves in which case I delete Kindest so it’s just a cold hard Regards.

I hate getting an email starting Houseplant…..
No Good Morning or Hi. So rude.

HundredMilesAnHour · 22/02/2022 23:27

That's the whole point. I expect compliance.

I expect compliance but I like you is "Many thanks". I expect compliance but I'm getting impatient and/or I don't like you is "Thanks" which is also shortcode for just bloody get on with it or get it right this time or I'm going to lose my rag with you. Wink

scarpa · 22/02/2022 23:30

In order of how well I know the client/contact:

Best wishes, scarpa
Cheers, scarpa
😊, scarpa
xx

(Yes I put kisses. I get kisses back. We're a friendly lot)

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 22/02/2022 23:30

Usually 'Many thanks' or 'Best wishes'

Rummikub · 22/02/2022 23:30

This is a minefield!

When I know someone well I don’t sign off at all!
