Woolly Hugs. Snugs for Looked After Children and Young People

We are delighted to be introducing a new project we are calling Snugs.

We are aiming to make blankets for children ( 0-16 years) who are being looked after within the Children's Family Trust.The Children's Family Trust work with these children aiming to give them stability and security through to adulthood, helping them achieve their full potential, with the ideal being fostered within a family for life. We would like to make these children something permanent, that they can take with them wherever they are.

Initially we will be working with the group based in the 'South Central' area, so Southampton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, Surrey and Dorset.

We would love for you to help us. We have funds to help if you need yarn, many thanks to the super generous donation from Ruth in memory of her beautiful "Little Mum' Joan.

There will be extra love in the Snugs from them both.

Crafting Info

• Yarn is Stylecraft Special DK just this please, inc for any embellishments.
• Squares to be 12 inch ideally, or 6 inch if that is too much.
• Knit and crochet equally welcome.
• Beginner or more experienced crafters also equally welcomed.
• Please use a 4mm hook or needles.
• No blocking please, and please ensure you are knotting off very thoroughly when colour changing or finishing, leave a 6cm end and use a needle to sew it in.
• We are asking folk to avoid using a magic ring (crochet) to start as find that these don't seem to always stand up to the pressures of wash and wear.
• Please read the list of colours in our palette carefully, the list is below.
• Squares to be single colour, multi colour, textured, whatever you like, they will be wonderful, thank you.
• If you'd like to make a whole blanket, please use these colours too, makes thing easier at the giving stage! Whole blankets to be 48 by 60 inches, we would like them all to be single bed size no matter what age the child.

The colours are a twist on a rainbow theme...

I’ve been joining what I’ve done and I like it! It’s 32” x 44” so far, so about half a blanket. Planning a row of 8” squares round the edge.

As I said on the Chernobyl thread, it’s not exactly subtle, but I’ve sort of had my 5yo DD in mind - it’s just her taste.

Afternoon all, had to reset our password AGAIN!

But we are back, back again

My finger slipped and I accidentally ordered more wool yesterday which has already arrived. Trying some new colours for Snugs. Unfortunately I appear to have run out of secret hiding places.

And DS has chosen colours for his blanket - either for his Oct birthday or Christmas. I think it may be eye catching. Lots and lots of lovely hooking to do

I am trying to be good , I have bought a load to keep me going, just general colours, but I have a discount voucher ... must be strong!

I think I’m going to run out before I finish this blanket, and I also need to buy for Chernobyl2019. And my mn blanket merino stash is looking a bit pathetic. But I don’t need anything right now

I can do some 12" if you need them? I've think I've got half a dozen ready-made.

I’m making slow progress on a blanket for this (yarn provided by K&P) afraid that it is unlikely to be done by the summer posting date, will more likely be done for after summer holidays posting date. Life getting in the way of crochet

I'm also working on a blanket info I've done 25 of 80 rainbow coloured squares so I'll be with you on late finishing... but I'm a bit bored of doing samey samey, so will do a few 12"ers and then get back to my blanket.

I think I’m aiming to bring my finished snug to the hugathon in September.

I think that may be me too Spin with the speed I'm going at! But, I have just finished my construction, so will have a bit more time now , fingers crossed!

I will be bringing my squares so someone can show me what to do with them - never made a blanket before....
