We are delighted to be introducing a new project we are calling Snugs.

We are aiming to make blankets for children ( 0-16 years) who are being looked after within the Children's Family Trust. The Children's Family Trust work with these children aiming to give them stability and security through to adulthood, helping them achieve their full potential, with the ideal being fostered within a family for life. We would like to make these children something permanent, that they can take with them wherever they are.

Initially we will be working with the group based in the 'South Central' area, so Southampton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, Surrey and Dorset.

We would love for you to help us. We have funds to help if you need yarn, many thanks to the super generous donation from Ruth in memory of her beautiful "Little Mum' Joan.

There will be extra love in the Snugs from them both.

Crafting Info

  • Yarn is Stylecraft Special DK just this please, inc for any embellishments.
  • Squares to be 12 inch ideally, or 6 inch if that is too much.
  • Knit and crochet equally welcome.
  • Beginner or more experienced crafters also equally welcomed.
  • Please use a 4mm hook or needles.
  • No blocking please, and please ensure you are knotting off very thoroughly when colour changing or finishing, leave a 6cm end and use a needle to sew it in.
  • We are asking folk to avoid using a magic ring (crochet) to start as find that these don't seem to always stand up to the pressures of wash and wear.
  • Please read the list of colours in our palette carefully, the list is below.
  • Squares to be single colour, multi colour, textured, whatever you like, they will be wonderful, thank you.
  • If you'd like to make a whole blanket, please use these colours too, makes thing easier at the giving stage! Whole blankets to be 48 by 60 inches, we would like them all to be single bed size no matter what age the child.

The colours are a twist on a rainbow theme...

Cypress

Duck egg

Lapis

Thanks

Hi K&P I can do some if there is still time? I thought the deadline on this was passed...

Spindelina · 07/04/2018 15:29

I’m doing Chernobyl at the moment, then going to switch to this.

bookbook · 07/04/2018 20:00

@KnottyAndPistey - my next assignment was Snugs ! I had planned on maybe doing a blanket, but if you prefer squares sooner rather than later, I will get on with them this next week .When do you need them for?

KnottyAndPistey · 07/04/2018 22:01

I just know from Knots we are short of our target, but we do know it and Chernobs are both huge projects. Think we are hoping for 30 - 40 snugs in our first collection. Have been busy making 12 inchers today, chipping away at least!

The deadline has certainly gone, was March 7th. We had sent out so much yarn we had been very hopeful! Any squares over the next 7 days would be wonderful, thank you xxxxv

On it - I'll get as many 12" done as possible this week for you - :)

diamantegal · 07/04/2018 23:51

I can try and do some this week if got the right colours seems likely given my massive stash

When's the absolute last posting date - Saturday? DH is out on Friday picking DS up from the in-laws, so that sounds like prime sofa and crochet time.

PurpleFrog · 08/04/2018 07:47

I didn’t realise there was a target for Snug blankets. I am doing extra 12” Chernobyl squares just now. I will do the rest in Snug-Friendly colours, so you can choose which project needs them most!

Spindelina · 08/04/2018 08:39

I’ve done a panel which was going to go in a whole blanket. If I make it up to a round number (18x18 or 24x24 I think) would you like me to send it in now instead?

MadisonAvenue · 08/04/2018 14:20

Did you get mine? I posted them (looking back on the thread for a date) early March.

MrsHathaway · 08/04/2018 15:33

I have been working on Kinship-Spiced recently but mainly in single colours. I have just compared the lists and there is an overlap of six colours! I have six 6" ready to go and will stashbust this afternoon.

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheT1meG0es · 08/04/2018 16:09

I haven't been following this thread although I was aware of the project. I have just finished my Chernobyl and just peskies to go on my latest Candy and was wondering what to do next, I will get stuck into some Snug squares.

MrsJonesAndMe · 08/04/2018 19:20

Ive got some that I can send, can someone PM me the Soutcoast address please?

bookbook · 08/04/2018 19:28

MrsJonesAndMe · 08/04/2018 21:27

Thanks, will split according to colour scheme.

KnottyAndPistey · 09/04/2018 10:15

Morning woollies Brew

Madison - did you send to the SC address? Will check for you xxx

Spindelina - you are so kind, but please keep to your plans and finish your blanket as you originally thought, our post last night will hopefully trigger more folk to post, we'd sent out so much yarn, we need to see it back again!

K&P I did, they went 2nd class on the 5/3 so should've been there a few days later.

MrsJonesAndMe · 10/04/2018 21:00

Going to send some squares on Friday. Then I'm going to make my first ever blanket from scratch for this - I'm not going to worry about constructing it because then I'd never start, but just start doing lots of squares....

bookbook · 12/04/2018 10:17

Posted off 7 x12" this morning - just plain ones for speed .
A couple have a distinct rastafarian vibe ....

Hmm, book and I may have been working to a theme... Have done this one and should be able to get a C2C done as well in time to post on Saturday. Not much I'm afraid, but hopefully better than nothing.

diamante - great minds ... ( well with me it was seeing what colours I had enough of! )

diamantegal · 13/04/2018 00:28

Mine was much the same! I've started to run our partway through my C2C so that one may have a slightly eclectic colour mix. I figure that will be the theme for most of the blankets though so hopefully won't matter.

TwitterQueen1 · 14/04/2018 08:48

7 x 12" squares coming your way *K&P Smile
