We are delighted to be introducing a new project we are calling Snugs.

We are aiming to make blankets for children ( 0-16 years) who are being looked after within the Children's Family Trust. The Children's Family Trust work with these children aiming to give them stability and security through to adulthood, helping them achieve their full potential, with the ideal being fostered within a family for life. We would like to make these children something permanent, that they can take with them wherever they are.

Initially we will be working with the group based in the 'South Central' area, so Southampton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, Surrey and Dorset.

We would love for you to help us. We have funds to help if you need yarn, many thanks to the super generous donation from Ruth in memory of her beautiful "Little Mum' Joan.

There will be extra love in the Snugs from them both.

Crafting Info

  • Yarn is Stylecraft Special DK just this please, inc for any embellishments.
  • Squares to be 12 inch ideally, or 6 inch if that is too much.
  • Knit and crochet equally welcome.
  • Beginner or more experienced crafters also equally welcomed.
  • Please use a 4mm hook or needles.
  • No blocking please, and please ensure you are knotting off very thoroughly when colour changing or finishing, leave a 6cm end and use a needle to sew it in.
  • We are asking folk to avoid using a magic ring (crochet) to start as find that these don't seem to always stand up to the pressures of wash and wear.
  • Please read the list of colours in our palette carefully, the list is below.
  • Squares to be single colour, multi colour, textured, whatever you like, they will be wonderful, thank you.
  • If you'd like to make a whole blanket, please use these colours too, makes thing easier at the giving stage! Whole blankets to be 48 by 60 inches, we would like them all to be single bed size no matter what age the child.

The colours are a twist on a rainbow theme...

Sent off 4x 12" this morning and hoping to do some more before the deadline

Mhw02 · 15/06/2018 16:00

Hope the kit I joined arrived - I posted it three weeks ago!

Have some more squares to send but not sure whether to send next Saturday before I go on holiday or make a whole blanket and send after summer.

KnottyAndPistey · 17/06/2018 16:12

Hola loves, Mhw - it has, she is just buried deep in building works and is worried about getting it out at the mo, apologies xxx

No bother, just in case it hadn't arrived, didn't want you thinking I hadn't sent it!

LassoOfTruth · 30/06/2018 10:18

Did my blanket and squares get to you okay? I posted in such a rush a few weeks ago. Smile

That's wonderful! I've got some ready to go in September and I'll hopefully make more between now and then (along with Candy squares).

It's a cause close to my heart as my son's best friend has spent a lot of his childhood and teens in care and knowing him (a really lovely lad who is unfailing polite but who is really struggling with life at the tender age of 18) and his situation, and knowing that there are many more kids like him, breaks my heart.

LassoOfTruth · 20/07/2018 19:08

They look great! I'm game for making another one in the winter if I ever once I finish the current epic Christmas project.

bookbook · 20/07/2018 19:36

I'm in :)

MadisonAvenue · 20/07/2018 22:00

Count me in for the Christmas blankets, it's lovely to think that children in my immediate area are going to receive these.

KnottyAndPistey · 21/07/2018 08:18

We need your help as we launch a Snug for Christmas! ⭐

Having met with the wonderful team at the Children’s Family Trust yesterday to pass on our blankets and hearing how much our Snugs will mean to their looked after children, we are keen to launch phase two - a Snug for Christmas. We shall need your help to achieve this.

Snugs for Christmas will go to children in the Midlands region, so throughout Birmingham, Solihull, Wolverhampton, Worcestershire, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Staffordshire and Warwickshire.

Yet again we come with a very big ask!

We are looking for 12 or 6 inch squares in the Snug palette or even whole blankets if this is something you would like to make. All crafting info is as before in the link/OP

So is anyone up for this?!

On behalf of these wonderful children, thank you xxxx

This Midlands Group is a bigger one than before, think it's the charity’s original group. They are going to come back with numbers for us

OP posts:
MadisonAvenue · 23/07/2018 12:57

It's covering a huge area if it's stretching from Staffs down to Gloucestershire!

KnottyAndPistey · 28/07/2018 09:08

It certainly is!

Imagine it started and spread and spread until they had to start new bases, their 'hub' is in Worcestershire, so they have the Midlands as above,

The North East region is based in Bishop Auckland (County Durham) so fostering in the North East including throughout Darlington, Teesside, Cumbria, County Durham, Tyne & Wear, North Yorkshire and Northumberland.

The South central we have just sent to.. Southampton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, Surrey and Dorset.

and then Yorkshire which is Bradford, Leeds, Halifax, Huddersfield, York, Wakefield, Doncaster, Rotherham, Sheffield and Barnsley

What they do is amazing

I'm working on a snug and also a Chernobs early bird 2019. I got my palettes somewhat confused so need to work out what square is for which project!
