We are delighted to be introducing a new project we are calling Snugs.

We are aiming to make blankets for children ( 0-16 years) who are being looked after within the Children's Family Trust. The Children's Family Trust work with these children aiming to give them stability and security through to adulthood, helping them achieve their full potential, with the ideal being fostered within a family for life. We would like to make these children something permanent, that they can take with them wherever they are.

Initially we will be working with the group based in the 'South Central' area, so Southampton, Portsmouth, Hampshire, Surrey and Dorset.

We would love for you to help us. We have funds to help if you need yarn, many thanks to the super generous donation from Ruth in memory of her beautiful "Little Mum' Joan.

There will be extra love in the Snugs from them both.

Crafting Info

  • Yarn is Stylecraft Special DK just this please, inc for any embellishments.
  • Squares to be 12 inch ideally, or 6 inch if that is too much.
  • Knit and crochet equally welcome.
  • Beginner or more experienced crafters also equally welcomed.
  • Please use a 4mm hook or needles.
  • No blocking please, and please ensure you are knotting off very thoroughly when colour changing or finishing, leave a 6cm end and use a needle to sew it in.
  • We are asking folk to avoid using a magic ring (crochet) to start as find that these don't seem to always stand up to the pressures of wash and wear.
  • Please read the list of colours in our palette carefully, the list is below.
  • Squares to be single colour, multi colour, textured, whatever you like, they will be wonderful, thank you.
  • If you'd like to make a whole blanket, please use these colours too, makes thing easier at the giving stage! Whole blankets to be 48 by 60 inches, we would like them all to be single bed size no matter what age the child.

The colours are a twist on a rainbow theme...

    Aspen

    Cloud Blue

    Cypress

Jolly good idea! If all else fails I'll throw them up in the air and see where they land....

80 squares, all 6 inch, have just been mailed. I think that’s about the right number for a blanket? Sorry I haven’t been able to join them though.

Hi book I’m fine thanks! Just wish I could’ve made the Hugathon to meet you! How’s your little Grandson doing?

I’m experimenting at the moment, I’m using crochet cotton and a 2mm hook to make snowflakes for on a Christmas wreath (and possibly Christmas cards). It’s fiddly but the results are very pretty!

ooh Madison - I made a bookmark with silk and a 2mm hook , and agree about fiddly!
DGS is thriving - just shooting up in front of our eyes :)
I hope the wedding was lovely - the meetup was great seeing people in the flesh so to speak !

book the wedding was lovely although getting there was a bit of an ordeal! You know the driving scenes at the start of Four Weddings And A Funeral? We pretty much re-enacted that in the Norfolk countryside. We should’ve got there with 90 minutes to spare but actually just had 19. Not our fault, roads were blocked due to accidents in a couple of places and then there were roadworks.

I was thinking of you all, it all looked fantastic in the photos on Facebook Smile

Oh, and don’t they seem to grow up quickly once they start school?

Morning!

Is there anyone in here who’d like to join a Snug blanket? Knots and I did a massive sort yesterday. Lots of kits 😃

I drove her mad by talking to her when she was counting BUT THAT’S ANOTHER STORY!!

Madison - were you the one in the very big hat ? :) Its horrible though, thinking you are going to have to go in after the bride. Its always hard to get a parking space anywhere near too , so you have to hobble walk a way to get to the church !
I am dithering about next project now.
Do I start on a Chernobs , or just do some Candys or Snug squares ? Decisions . Maybe I need to go and check my yarn !

LOL book and hobble was correct. It was at a lovely venue in the middle of nowhere and parking was fine....but the walk from the car park to the actual ceremony was all gravel and I have more than enough problems walking in heels without having to contend with that Grin
Grace is NOT my middle name.

I'm having the same quandry! I may check and see which colours fall into both Snugs and other projects and if more are needed for Snugs close to deadline they'll be ready or otherwise they can be diverted to wherever needs them the most.
