We were so very sorry to hear JuanPotatoTwo’s desperately sad news that her DH had passed away last month, he had renal failure. We are so very sorry for their loss and our thoughts are with her, their children and their family. We hope that this blanket will bring some comfort at such a devastating time, we were so glad they accepted our offer. Juan’s original thread is here… second here.. we see lots of you lovely folk are supporting her there, bless you.

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate wool or funds, we shall need both and we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too.We have part balls if any hookers need yarn, please say. Please PM us with your offers of help THANK YOU SO MUCH.

We take our ideas from a beautiful piece written by his daughter

  • He was a keen rugby player, clearly enjoying much success before his illness started, playing for amongst others Leicester Tigers and England schools, so club and country, lots of rugby ideas there. Leicester colours are green, red and white, will attempt a link.
  • They met at a pub called The Navy for anyone who can do writing.
  • He had a red cable knit cardi he loved and wore endlessly, we do have an idea for these.
  • He loved gardening and roses
  • Cups of tea and lemon drizzle, and watching The Chase
  • They have a cat
  • And he once made Juan a Squirrel costume!

The Yarn we are Using….
Artesano Superwash Merino DK
Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
Katia Merino 100% DK (new to us this time)
Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
Patons Merino Extrafine DK

Colourwise…
Red, one of these please, Drops Merino Extra Fine 11 Red, or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM6 ‘Ruby’ please.
Greens from forest to brighter.
Blues, but not turquoise please
Cream, one of the following - Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru, Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 cream, or Drops Merino 01 off white

Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM7 Taupe
Oranges - one of these please, Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK - Pumpkin (373) orDebbie Bliss Rialto DK - Tangerine (56) or Debbie Bliss Rialto DK - Burnt Orange (43)

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

I'm going to give it a whirl tomorrow as I found some nice bamboo knitting needles in my sewing bag of all places, and some freeby cream wool on the cover of a magazine, that I don't mind wasting if I mess things up.

My best friend is a totally amazing knitter. She made a Noah's Ark complete with all the animals. Unbelievable!

Iwantacampervan · 30/04/2017 15:37

I have some wool left over from other projects - I'll be knitting one or two squares.
My thoughts are with Juan and family.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 30/04/2017 15:43

If anyone is planning to buy Drops Merino Extra Fine, there will be a Drops wool sale, I think starting tomorrow. There is usually around 25-30% off when they do a sale.

It's £1.80 a ball in Wool Warehouse today - some may fall into my basket!

Iwantacampervan · 01/05/2017 07:44

Order placed..

What is the date for posting squares please?

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 01/05/2017 12:50

Iwant I think they're probably still knee deep in C2017 squares at the moment and also need to see roughly how many knitters& crocheters are on board. It's normally about 4-6 weeks from the start of the thread, depending on other factors. It always seems ages, but comes around quickly!

Iwantacampervan · 01/05/2017 12:55

That's great Chipping - thank you. I've time for my order to arrive and get knitting again.

MrsDilligaf · 02/05/2017 10:08

Will do my best.

I'm dithering on what to make here! Is it best to do multiples of the same pattern or go for different ones?

diamantegal · 02/05/2017 18:08

Wool arrived safe and sound here too - thank you!

Witch I was planning on different patterns but all in the same two donor colours - I think they should still sit together nicely.

How many squares are people planning on doing? As I've got donor wool I feel it should all go to this project but don't want to overwhelm K&P with a crazy number of squares!

IlsaLund · 02/05/2017 18:39

Lovely green yarn arrived today. Thank you.

Wolfiefan · 02/05/2017 18:41

Ordered some lovely looking drops blue and red from Wool Warehouse. Never used it before. And new needles. And a Caron cake. And..... Oops! Blush

bookbook · 02/05/2017 19:10

I have ordered wool, and tapping fingers impatiently for delivery!
I was thinking of doing 3 I think , and different colours /patterns. I have just about made up my mind what I want to do - its whether they turn out as I envisage ....
Wolfie - my DD ordered a crotchet hook with a light Grin

Yddraigoldragon · 02/05/2017 20:17

Lovely wool arrived here today, thank you!

clairethewitch70 · 02/05/2017 21:09

Wooly treasure in the form of blue & green Drops wool arrived today - thank you to the donor

WitchDancer · 02/05/2017 21:13

Looking at the past blankets there are approx 10 x 9 squares, which is 90 ish squares required. On that basis I think I'll be using all my donation wool as I figure it's better to have a huge hug. 🤓

clairethewitch70 · 02/05/2017 21:24

I am assuming that the Drops Merino extra fine wool knits as double knitting? Also how many square out of each ball? thanks

Just compiling ideas before I make a start. What is the posting date?

Sorry for so many questions!

bookbook · 02/05/2017 21:51

Yes, Drops knits as DK - they ask you to use 4mm needles/hooks
I tend to not do a full square in just one colour, so I am guessing 2 per ball - though that may not be totally correct :)
Posting date is normally about a month after the OP date

IlsaLund · 02/05/2017 22:15

I've been crocheting up a storm and have five squares ready to post.

The colours are much nicer in real life as I've just taken the pictures under artificial light.

They aren't fancy, but they are made and sent with love.

They're lovely Iilsa!

I'm impressed with the speed you've knocked them up. I'm one round off my first one, but I have been out of the house 6-9. 😜

Wolfiefan · 02/05/2017 23:10

@bookbook
They make crochet hooks with LIGHTS?!?! Shock
