We were so very sorry to hear JuanPotatoTwo’s desperately sad news that her DH had passed away last month, he had renal failure. We are so very sorry for their loss and our thoughts are with her, their children and their family. We hope that this blanket will bring some comfort at such a devastating time, we were so glad they accepted our offer. Juan’s original thread is here… second here.. we see lots of you lovely folk are supporting her there, bless you.

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate wool or funds, we shall need both and we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too.We have part balls if any hookers need yarn, please say. Please PM us with your offers of help THANK YOU SO MUCH.

We take our ideas from a beautiful piece written by his daughter

  • He was a keen rugby player, clearly enjoying much success before his illness started, playing for amongst others Leicester Tigers and England schools, so club and country, lots of rugby ideas there. Leicester colours are green, red and white, will attempt a link.
  • They met at a pub called The Navy for anyone who can do writing.
  • He had a red cable knit cardi he loved and wore endlessly, we do have an idea for these.
  • He loved gardening and roses
  • Cups of tea and lemon drizzle, and watching The Chase
  • They have a cat
  • And he once made Juan a Squirrel costume!

The Yarn we are Using….

Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
Drops Merino Extra Fine DK

:)

Spindelina · 28/04/2017 13:59

If anyone (book?) is ordering and could get and send me a ball (or part ball) of the yellow for less than £2.95 (I reckon you could do it for 76p), I'd gladly pay you back / return the favour. I've already ordered and am slightly baulking at the postage for one ball of wool.

Spindelina · 28/04/2017 14:00

I mean send for less than £2.95. I'd pay for the wool too, obviously!

bookbook · 28/04/2017 14:26

Can do spin - I am just waiting for DD to choose some wool to make up the order - hopefully I shall put the order in tonight - will let you know :)

KnittingPearl · 28/04/2017 14:31

I need to have a look at my stash, and will PM soon - probably tomorrow. Huge amounts of love to Juan xxx

NormansNipple · 28/04/2017 17:46

I've ordered the forest green from Patons Chipping I preferred the colour slightly to the drops one. I hope it doesn't misbehave!

As I'm also in the midlands, just up the road from Leicester, I'm going with the tigers theme. I'm also going to try a rose. My wool has been shipped today.

HemanOrSheRa · 28/04/2017 20:18

I have ordered what I hope is a nice selection and it is on it's way to a lovely crafter Smile. Bless all of you lovely people who are much quicker at knitting/crochet than me and give up your time to contribute to something so special Smile.

And love to dear Juan too Flowers.

bookbook · 28/04/2017 21:43

Spin - have ordered -( Wool Warehouse) and found a 10% discount code too - happy days :) so hopefully here soon.....!

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 28/04/2017 21:51

bookbook. You can always use CHARITY to get the 10% discount with WW 😊

norman. Let me know what you think if it. Though I'm not sure I could get past my deep seated dislike of it! 😕

bookbook · 28/04/2017 22:31

I just googled Chipping Blush

Spindelina · 29/04/2017 06:57

Thanks, book!

daisychain01 · 29/04/2017 08:52

Thank you Knotty and Chippingin I have now got the details and a cheque will be winging its way straight after the BH weekend to put towards wool for ^Juan* xx

daisychain01 · 29/04/2017 08:55

Will it be OK to see a photo of the wonderful creation when completed? I am loving the sound of all these beautiful colours and designs!

I'm more of a cross stitch girl myself, but am suddenly getting the urge to restart knitting, although I fear I would be much too slow for this endeavour and best left to you experts xx

bookbook · 29/04/2017 09:09

daisy - I have knitted for years - and tbh I will be knitting the squares for Juan ( I have a few ideas that I am mulling over) . I only found Woolly Hugs when they put out a call for someone I 'knew' from threads I am on . That was last year. I am now fully immersed in all their wonderful work, all the other blankets they do. I have learnt to crotchet to do it -and its amazing the community around this work , as you can see from all the responses. ( I cross stitch too , but the newest project is stuffed in a bag Blush )
You can see previous blankets on the website HERE

KnottyAndPistey · 29/04/2017 09:24

Hello loves, caffeinated beverage anyone Brew ?

The most enormous number of bags of woolly wool are on their way, hopefully everyone who has asked for is in that number, some are coming directly from donors and they are being as fabulous as always, love them. If you do receive yarn for Juan's blanket, please post on here to say it has arrived safely, the lovely donors of funds like to see, and we worry when we don't know of arrivals!

Please do keep joining, all still very welcome, so if reading this, thinking I'd like to join but have never done so and am not confident, just do, we'd love to have you. You will be made very welcome. xxxx

Daisy, I've only been hooking for a few months, inspired by the one and only Zombie. It's not that difficult to learn from you tube - have a look for the Bella Coco tutorials. Be warned, it's addictive though!

daisychain01 · 29/04/2017 12:22

Hello bookbook thanks for the link I will take a look. My Granny taught me to knit and crochet but I am extremely rusty! I think once I get started again I may crank up the action lives in hope I'm a bit Jack of all Crafts, I do a bit of everything just nothing very well haha.
Ahh so you have a x-S UFO lurking I have a few of them!

Thank you Witchdancer I will take a look at YouTube for tutorials especially for doing nicely shaped even squares (that don't go all wonky) Smile

bookbook · 29/04/2017 13:24

daisy - I should say it has a whole Topic here on MN - its under Body and Soul :)

daisychain01 · 29/04/2017 16:13

Ooo thank you bookbook I didn't know that (nips over there for a quick look in between x-stitching and making cuppa, procrastination abounds re ironing catch up)

MrsDilligaf · 30/04/2017 10:39

Daisy

I began knitting and crocheting at the beginning of this year and I have Knotty and Pistey to thank for introducing me to something I love and enjoy.

I began with a few very wonky squares, and gradually started to try patterns (nothing fancy!) At the moment I'm still very much a beginner but every day I learn something new.

Grab a hook or needles (thousands in my local charity shop) and have a go Grin
