Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort.

Seven blankets already with women on the rocky road of cancer treatment in Candy's name. Love in every stitch we say and it really is true. Together we go on, Candy is with us every step. Star

For anyone joining us, and please do, this is an ongoing project, just jump right in, this explains what we are doing and all crafting info. Thank you EVERYONE! x

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. Wine

Anyone seeing this project for the first time, wondering about joining in, make this the day you do! This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

Our previous threads are the first one here and the second one here.. and third here

We are keeping a photo album on our Facebook page.]] All welcome to join us over there too. Thanks

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give hugs and comfort as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection date is March 11th, then April 22nd. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch. ALL welcome over there.

Thank you so much Thanks

Beautiful squares!!!

I'm back here now I've finished my Chernobyl yarn. I'm now working with a very generous donation of yarn, and I managed my first flower square last night, and from a pattern too! Not an online tutorial in sight!

Jux · 04/04/2017 14:41

flutterworc amazing!
book I love those colours. You've reminded me that I wanted to do more c2c.

I don't know what lace pricking is.

Spindelina · 04/04/2017 14:47

Jux I just talk to myself about lacemaking on these threads. Do feel free to nod and smile.

(But in case you wanted to know... it's the pattern. You pin it to a pillow and poke holes in it with a pricker - which is essentially a very fine bradawl - then stick pins in it as you go.)

flutter I think that looks lovely, but it will look even better with a border. Does that help?

Jux · 04/04/2017 15:00

Ok, I'll have to just nod and smile despite living in a lace-making town and having sent dd to lessons when she was 7ish.

I do have a lace-making kit, stashed somewhere, for investigation when..... well, not sure when, but when..... Wink

Spindelina · 04/04/2017 15:08

Do it, Jux!

bookbook · 04/04/2017 19:19

Right, sat down and have to decide a pattern for doing tonight -
Jux - I have found the c2c just about the easiest to do while not totally concentrating. And now we have a nice way to tidy the edges with the border MrsH linked to. :)

Yddraigoldragon · 04/04/2017 19:45

Marking place so I know where everyone is for next week. And back to Chernobyl squares... as you were, don't mind me stopping by :)

Okkitokkiunga · 04/04/2017 20:56

I'm still doing my Chernobyl squares but will pop over here next week. I have borrowed the Jan Eaton book so am looking forward to attempting something besides granny squares.

Jux · 04/04/2017 21:06

Spin when I have my new specs - eyes simply not good enough atm! And, well, I seem to have all this crocheting to do...

Spindelina · 04/04/2017 21:21

bookbook · 04/04/2017 22:13

Evening!
Okki have you tried C2C ( corner to corner) yet ? Bella Coco does a good tutorial.
number 3 in the sherbet/turquoise/empire set finished. I have set off another, but my brain is tired, and I have frogged round 5 back twice now, so I think I may stop there ...!

Okkitokkiunga · 04/04/2017 22:24

Book I am going to try that next. I am in the middle of trying a 12" patchwork square. I've not joined squares yet so this may be an utter disaster. Smile

bookbook · 04/04/2017 22:34

brave Okki - I haven't tried joining yet...:)

Jux · 04/04/2017 22:51

What is frogging?

bookbook · 04/04/2017 22:57

Jux - seemingly frogs croaking ripit, ripit , according to seasoned hookers Grin
so me pulling back work that went wrong

Jux · 05/04/2017 00:24

Ah! I have spent the whole evening doing that! Bit off a bit more than I could chew with this one myblueangels.blogspot.co.uk/2015/07/twisted-braids-6-sq.html which I thought looked easy enough, but I just kept getting the wrong number of stitches and finishing a round with an extra oneor two. I never got past R3! Blush

Think I'll go back to c2c for the rest of my current wool, at least I've done it before!

bookbook · 05/04/2017 10:11

well, I picked it up this morning, and it was fairly obvious in the end!
So finished my fourth sherbet/turquoise/empire now.
Think its time for a set of pinky purples :)

Flutter that's gorgeous. Where is that pattern from?

There is so much inspiration on here. I am rubbish with colours so have been scouring all the photos for colour ideas.
