Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort.

Seven blankets already with women on the rocky road of cancer treatment in Candy's name. Love in every stitch we say and it really is true. Together we go on, Candy is with us every step. Star

For anyone joining us, and please do, this is an ongoing project, just jump right in, this explains what we are doing and all crafting info. Thank you EVERYONE! x

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. Wine

Anyone seeing this project for the first time, wondering about joining in, make this the day you do! This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

Our previous threads are the first one here and the second one here.. and third here

We are keeping a photo album on our Facebook page.]] All welcome to join us over there too. Thanks

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give hugs and comfort as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection date is March 11th, then April 22nd. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch. ALL welcome over there.

Thank you so much Thanks

Will try and add some daily.

Have lots of new squares done will try and unload pictures later.

MadisonAvenue · 28/03/2017 19:25

Bath if you have the required yarn (it's listed in the first post) then just knit or crochet away and when you want to send a package of squares just PM K&P for the address to send them to. If you need yarn then ask K&P if they can match you up with a donor.

stephiehelen · 28/03/2017 19:33

Ooooooo, thank you, my needles are ready to be clicking away with some new patterns Grin

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 28/03/2017 20:04

Great Bath - looking forward to seeing your squares!😊

Do you have the Stylecraft Special DK yarn (in permitted colours)?

I should be on a commission from this woman!, but sadly I'm not, I found her tutorial very easy to follow to make GRANNY SQUARES

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 28/03/2017 20:07

Oh & the hook needs to be a 4mm

I think K&P might have some spares if you don't. If you need to buy one the £1.70 Pony (brand) hook does the job, but the Clover Amour £6.50) is lovely to use.

BathshebaDarkstone · 28/03/2017 20:44

Thanks Madison and Chipping, I've PMed K&P for yarn. It may be slow progress, as I don't seem to have much time, DD will probably do more than me, but I'll do my best! Grin

bookbook · 28/03/2017 23:12

Bath - that is lovely!
clairethewitch - great idea, I am now following :)
I will be back with Candys after the weekend, may get to do some knitting at long last....:)

flutterworc · 28/03/2017 23:53

Stay clear

Fully lurgied here, no voice left and what I do have makes DS chortle

Apols for being awol, we have been working hard on the craft sale, which has been an extraordinary success, so glad, it will help projects just like this one remain inclusive and open to all, no one to be excluded because they can't afford to join in, thank you xxx

Bath! Welcome :) xxxx

Hi! Grin keep away from me with your lurgy

Jux · 29/03/2017 10:43

flutterworc, lovely squares!

K&P, we've allhad the lurgy here, so you can breathe on me as much as you like - I am NOT getting it again!

bookbook · 29/03/2017 10:46

I'm not surprised K&P - you have been running yourselves ragged .
Don't you be too sure Jux - we have had it here - it seems to go round in circles....

VittysCardigan · 29/03/2017 10:55

Lurgy here too - on the mend today though

PurpleFrog · 29/03/2017 16:23

That's great clairethewitch70 - I'll have a look at Pinterest later. It is difficult to find 6" or 12" squares in Ravelry done in DK. If you have already sorted them out, that will be fantastic!

flutterworc · 29/03/2017 22:39

Well, this was a fiddly little beast and not executed quite as advertised, but do you reckon it'll pass muster...?

claraclari · 29/03/2017 22:50

fluttererc beautiful square and love the colours!

Jux · 29/03/2017 23:51

flutterwork, I love that square! where did the pattern come from?

flutterworc · 30/03/2017 00:00

Jux - it's a Pinterest one I found. Here: www.lookatwhatimade.net/crafts/yarn/crochet/block-a-week-cal-2014/block-9-never-ending-love-photo-tutorial/ - see if you can execute rather better than mine is!

KnottyAndPistey · 31/03/2017 10:35

Still lurgied and away on Sunday for a week

Morning all xxx

bookbook · 31/03/2017 10:46

oh no- K&P still lurgied, and after all that amazingly hard graft as well. Hopefully you will be fine by the weekend . You deserve the break :)

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 31/03/2017 13:58

Afternoon! Grin

Hope you improve by sunday K&P you certainly deserve a nice break after the big craft sale Smile

I posted my squares off this morning, so they'll be winging their way to you shortly.

Chaz that rainbow yarn is fab! I'm intrigued by the self striping stuff I'm going to have to treat myself to some just so I can try it out. Smile

MadisonAvenue · 31/03/2017 14:34

Oh no K&P - feel better by Sunday!

BathshebaDarkstone · 31/03/2017 16:18

Get well soon K&P. FlowersBrew(Lemsip)Gin(medicinal)

CraftyGirly90 · 31/03/2017 21:15

Hope you feel better soon K&P. I have another batch of squares ready to be posted hopefully by the end of next week.

Not a woolly hug question but if I can't ask you lovely people then who can I ask eh? Does anyone know where you cam get luminous/glow in the dark wool from cheap? Odd question I know but its for a project my mum is working on xx

WitchDancer · 01/04/2017 09:30

Morning campers. It's gone rather quiet on here just lately! Is everyone doing Chernobyl squares like me?

Glow in the dark wool is a reality? Gosh, I didn't know that! Have you tried the Wool Warehouse Crafty? They seem to have a very wide range so it would be my first place to try.
