Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort.

Seven blankets already with women on the rocky road of cancer treatment in Candy's name. Love in every stitch we say and it really is true. Together we go on, Candy is with us every step. Star

For anyone joining us, and please do, this is an ongoing project, just jump right in, this explains what we are doing and all crafting info. Thank you EVERYONE! x

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. Wine

Anyone seeing this project for the first time, wondering about joining in, make this the day you do! This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

Our previous threads are the first one here and the second one here.. and third here

We are keeping a photo album on our Facebook page.]] All welcome to join us over there too. Thanks

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give hugs and comfort as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection date is March 11th, then April 22nd. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch. ALL welcome over there.

Thank you so much Thanks

evening
a quick jump in here , must get to bed !
claire - the ~Bella Coco tutorilas on you tube have been good for me , there are a few to have a go at - I like the corner to corner, and the willow square. Advanced knitting - well , I am a reasonable knitter, and have been using a couple of knitting stitch libraries on the web
Library of stitches ,
Vogue stitchionary
and making them up to the right size, and there are loads of patterns on ravelry for free too

This is my first Zsquare. It's a very dark green. The wool (the Artisano one) is just lovely to work with and feels rich and gorgeous. As usual, my photo is a bit crap! Grin

I have at last posted my Candy's Hugs squares, though there are a few more lurking in the bottom of my knitting bag which I shall send later this week.

Looking at all the photos on these threads is a joy; likewise the photo on the Fb pages.

Hoping you're all well today.

It is exceptionally hard to try and make Candy's hugs squares whilst listening to the who's on first sketch. I've ended up miscounting stiches twice. Hopefully I can get it right this time 😐 xx

FrenchDucksSayCoinCoin · 14/03/2017 21:22

That's a lovely design Jux
crafty I am constantly counting under my breath! I've had to pull a lot out.

I could do with some help please... I am not good at colours. I'm trying my first deliberate 12 inch and it's rainbow stripes. My options for violet are plum or magenta and I'm stumped. Can anyone tell me what to do?!

Spindelina · 14/03/2017 21:27

I vote magenta.

(though actually if it were me I'd be buying violet. This is why my wool stash is overly large.)

TheHatOfDoom · 14/03/2017 21:39

I vote plum

FrenchDucksSayCoinCoin · 14/03/2017 21:46

Lol, well, I guess I asked for that....

I have violet... It was hidden under some green. Does this change anything?

CraftyGirly90 · 14/03/2017 21:50

I vote violet xx

IAmNotAUserNumber · 14/03/2017 23:19

I'd go violet for hen to retain her he rainbow theme, or if you're not committed I think the magenta lifts it.
What did you use for indigo? On my rainbow squares I used violet for indigo, and lavender for violet.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 14/03/2017 23:19

I have no idea what happened in the first line of my post above Confused

Spindelina · 15/03/2017 07:39

The rainbow I'm doing looks pretty similar: lipstick, spice, saffron, grass, turquoise, petrol, violet.

FrenchDucksSayCoinCoin · 15/03/2017 08:37

IAmNot duck/hen, it's all much of a muchness Smile
Snap Spindelina!
Thanks all, I'm going in with the violet after work.

My tomato and violet have arrived, as have my yarns for the Zombiekid's Woolly Hug squares. I started on one of these last night but was so tired I made so many mistakes and had to frog most of it.

I've made another block stitch Candy's Hug square, which looks pretty riotous!

Lovely package of wool arrived this morning for Chernobyl, thank you very much, will get cracking with that later.

Been working on this in Lipstick, shells and bars from the 200 squares book

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 15/03/2017 10:04

Axolotyl. I LOVE that! Do you mind if I use the pattern? If not, can you tell me what it is please. Honestly, it's really, really FAB! (Ignores the number of Peskies).

FrenchDucks. I've been wondering where you'd got to! I was going to PM you but time keeps getting the better of me. Then I saw your Fab squares on Facebook (I don't do Facebook but I can sort of see the WoollyHugs page if I ignore the stupid banner asking me to sign up!) & was going to PM you after this, but here you are 😊. As for the square (which looks great so far) I'd actually use the lavender I can see in the background 😬 But I'm sure any of the choices will look fab. I'm glad you're enjoying the class.

MrsHathaway · 15/03/2017 14:33

Posting some Candy's squares this afternoon.

Jux · 15/03/2017 17:48

Is anyone using the Patons wool specified for Zfamily squares? I'm finding it really hard to use, but it's the one my local shop has in stock so I have quite a ot of it. Sad It might just be that I'm not that skilled!

Bearfrills · 15/03/2017 17:54

I have some Paton's wool in my stash somewhere, I tried using it and then chucked it into the wool box never to be seen again because I didn't like it. What's happening with it Jux? The one I had kept unravelling into the individual threads so when pulling up a loop of yarn I was pulling up one or two threads. I found it to be quite loosely twisted together so instead of being one strand of yarn it was splitting into individual threads, if that makes sense. Not sure how best to describe it.

bookbook · 15/03/2017 17:57

I've done 2 Jux - , but I am knitting. It seemed fine to me, What is the problem?

bookbook · 15/03/2017 18:41

scrub that Jux Blush - it was Drops I used.....

shatteredstudentmum · 15/03/2017 19:08

I've just finished my first ever square 😀 very plain but I'm quite proud of it. I looked at a pattern for something but I couldn't understand most of it! Is there anywhere that has patterns AND explanations??

TheoriginalLEM · 15/03/2017 19:27

look up bella cocoa tutorials on YouTube really easy

Jux · 15/03/2017 19:37

Bearfrills, bookbook that is exactly the problem. It keeps unravelling splitting and if I manage to make a stitch anyway, it's a complete mess. It's very stretchy too, but that's not so bad as my tension is quite loose.

Anyway, it's driving me mad! I just did about half a square, I went wrong and I tried to undo a few stitchEs to get it right and one bit of thread got indelibly stuck to another bit and the wool broke so the whole thing is ruined and I have to start again! Aaaaargh!

And the only yarns I've got in main colours, ie (not just embellishments) are Patons!C!!!

Jux · 15/03/2017 19:40

Oooh, I wonder whose number that is and how it got there! Auto-correct, iPad crap keyboard and gremlins at MN I reckon.
