We knew her time left with us was short, but the news of Zombie’s death on January 30th was still a sad shock, we send so much love to her family and her many, many friends who love and will miss her greatly, we hold our happy memories of her very dear. Bless her.

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. X

Raising a glass or two to the fabulous Zombie, we go on together Wine

Anyone seeing this project for the first time, wondering about joining in, make this the day you do! This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

Our previous threads are the first one here and the second one here..

We are keeping a photo album on our Facebook page.]] All welcome to join us over there too. Thanks

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate

Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection date is March 11th, then April 22nd. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch. All welcome over there.

Thank you so much xx

Jux here is the Fishermans Ring done.
I did have to frog a bit after Round 6, when I found I had 19 chain loops instead of 20.
It looks very pale but it is Sherbet.

Jux it's ctc crochet. I fell in love with the technique because of this thread.

TheHatOfDoom · 18/02/2017 19:32

I don't need more yarn but I appear to be ordering some. Does anyone know of any discount codes for Wool Warehouse? Last time
I ordered I missed that one had been posted here so want to double check.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 18/02/2017 19:40

SC33 is working for Wool Warehouse at the moment @TheHatOfDoom Smile

Annahibiscuits · 18/02/2017 19:50

See. Now, I'm going to have to teach myself to crochet! These are all so beautiful. I love the ishermans ring marcipex...Is it difficult?

bookbook · 18/02/2017 20:06

Evening!
Lovely squares -
Pop - as always, yours is amazing. I must admit I am liking c2c too, but only done a simple stripe one so far. It is quick!
Marcipex - that is stunning
However, I have gone back to knitting - it is my favourite. So today I have made these. Its so long since I did a proper cable panel, so I should have had a few more stitches either side of the one in Spice for ease of stretch, but hopefully the construction team won't mind too much!
Off to cast on another. Green ( Meadow) I think next..:)

SpaghettiMoon · 18/02/2017 20:06

Sorry to confuse! No I start in a corner but the marking of the middle of the square is to keep the tension even across the length of the join and helps particularly with squares that are different sizes.

Marcipex · 18/02/2017 20:09

Anna not really difficult, or I couldn't have done it :)
The raised 'rope ' pattern is overlapping short chains of single crochet, easy once you've got going.

Marcipex · 18/02/2017 20:15

Beautiful squares Book.

Spaghetti, I think I see.

WitchDancer · 18/02/2017 20:35

I love the cable one Book

I'm going a 12 inch in cartridge stitch at the moment. Easy enough to do and one that will hopefully help the construction team as it has give one way or the other

FiveGoMadInDorset · 18/02/2017 20:37

Sorry I have been AWOL due to personal reasons but have been carrying in knitting, and have some beautiful new shiny knitting needles.

bookbook · 18/02/2017 21:00

Witch - I just lifted the pattern from a book, and adjusted it for me .
I do 30 stitches and 44 rows normally for quite a near 6" .

Annahibiscuits · 18/02/2017 21:11

Thanks witch for those patterns, they look great and I think I can do them

Annahibiscuits · 18/02/2017 21:13

book, could you upload the raspberry heart pattern as well?

bookbook · 18/02/2017 21:23

Here you go Anna - again I lifted the basic pattern, so the instructions at the top are for my tension/size. And the pattern as written doesn't include the border stitches IYSWIM?
Basic pattern is 24 stitches + 3, then I added another 4 stitches for a garter border, ( 2 each end) and to take it up to 6" - you made need to make the border wider for your tension.

WitchDancer · 18/02/2017 21:24

Thanks Book, I'll give it a good when I'm not quite so spacey on tablets.

I think 2 more goes at the cartridge and then this one will be done. I'm getting frustrated at how long it's taking - I think 6 inch suits me better!

bookbook · 18/02/2017 21:26

12" take ages - I usually get fed up by the end, and try and knit faster. It doesn't work Grin

WitchDancer · 18/02/2017 21:29

Anna the cartridge stitch is really easy, it's made up of 8 rows that you just repeat:

1 - knit
2 - purl
3 - knit
4 - purl
5 - knit
6 - knit
7 - purl
8 - knit

For the 6 inch you need 33 stitches, and you repeat the above 6 times. To start knit one row and then purl a second, and then you go into the above. To finish repeat rows 1 to 5 and then purl a row & then cast off

WitchDancer · 18/02/2017 21:31

Book it's not just me who tries to go quicker then Grin

PopGoesTheOysteryBullshit · 18/02/2017 21:39

Anyone ordering from ww...try the code CHARITY

FurryLittleTwerp · 18/02/2017 21:42

I'm crocheting really fast with my new Clover hook & keep making half-trebles by accident, instead of trebles!

UberA · 18/02/2017 21:45

I've never got on with clover hooks...I just use tue cheap metal ones.

UberA · 18/02/2017 21:45

Shit! Forgot I was still in my PLL nickname. (It's Pop)

FurryLittleTwerp · 18/02/2017 21:54

Hello Pop - I'm getting arthritis at the base of the thumb on my hooking hand & hadn't realised how uncomfortable I actually was! Not having to close my hand so tightly with the fatter shaft of the Clover, I find so much more comfortable!

PopGoesTheOysteryBullshit · 18/02/2017 22:09

Ouch!
