Welcome to our second thread, may it be as vibrantly riotous as the first!

Anyone reading this thinking Shall I? Can I? Yes you can! :) We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

So let's crack on!

This then a C&P of the crafting info from thread one.

Our lovely Zombie (who has said she doesn’t mind being outed as Candy) has long been a supporter of Woolly Hugs, bless her for it! Recently she made a very kind donation to us, and we would love to start an Ongoing project to honour this remarkable woman, who we have both had the privilege of meeting, dancing and drinking with. wine wine She is utterly fab-u-lous. :)

After a chat with Zombie we have made a plan which she loves. We would like to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care. They will be called Candy’s Hugs.

Zombie is a bright and beautiful woman so we have chosen a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give big hugs as she goes through treatments.

Will you join with us? If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! smile

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our first posting date is to be January 28th. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch.

Thank you so much xx

Thanks

Morning beauts!

Full of flu here!

I've also started a "spare a square?" mini campaign on sm...so I have no choice but to rest, crochet, and piss about on twitter and facebook all day...bummerrrrr Grin

I'm in the middle of a PCBH marathon atm, and I SWEAR that Bea Smith was knitting you a square in Tomato! Sod the fact that it was almost 40 years ago!

TheoriginalLEM · 15/01/2017 12:42

oooh i loved Prisoner my DP calls me Bea Smith, the fucker I wouldn't mind if he was referring to the new seasons! he isn't

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 15/01/2017 12:48

LEM Grin

I'm not even old enough to remember it the first time around! I have the dvd's, books, etc.

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 15/01/2017 13:05

Has Fairy got lost ?

I'M HERE Sorry it took so long - I got waylaid with a heart granny square!!!

Actually that's the story of my life at the moment, I keep starting a job and then I get called back to my hook and wool - I swear I've at least 10 half finished jobs that need my attention and what am I doing?? Crocheting!!!

I must get my chores done after I start my new c2c square

Nice to be back in the crafting community.

Fairy that's beautiful! Do you have a pattern?

I don't know whether to cry at the line "336 bphdc", or jump for joy that I get to use the orange yarn!

VittysCardigan · 15/01/2017 13:15

Pop I have no idea what that means but it sounds scary!

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 15/01/2017 13:56

Fairy that's beautiful! Do you have a pattern?

I followed this pattern/tutorial.

Because the tutorial only does a small square I just improvised the last couple of rounds to get it up to 6". I did a round of double treble crochet followed by a round of trebles into every stitch.

I'm loving this thread/project as it's making me excited to try new styles and designs.
Please everyone, keep posting your pics.

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 15/01/2017 14:01

With the blanket I'm doing for myself alongside this project, I have to end up,with eight granny clusters, so I can jayg with the white border. It can be a mare sometimes to get it to the right size without making the stitch count too many!

I REALLY hope that lot made sense!

ExitPursuedBySpartacus · 15/01/2017 14:09

Sorry I'm late.

I've been hoovering the mess you all left behind on the old thread.

Tsk.

MrsHathaway · 15/01/2017 14:16

This is starting to feel rather like a quiche.

We've just had KFC after a largely successful tip/B&Q/Sports Direct run. I feel ... greasy.

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 15/01/2017 14:19

Would you mind if I asked everyone's age, or roundabout age?

The reason I ask is that NONE of my friends who are my age (35, but a young 35 iyswim, hair a different color every month, etc) crochet or knit, and they all seem to think it's old fashioned! I'd love to prove them wrong 😁😁

Spindelina · 15/01/2017 14:24

38, so roughly half the age of the average lacemaker I think.

MrsHathaway · 15/01/2017 14:30

Snap, Pop. I'm new to it, though, and I'm the youngest in my RL knitting club by a generation.

There's a good handful in my similar-age friendship group who crochet or cross stitch or adult-colour or card-make etc etc so I'd say crafting in general is totally on trend, mind you.

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 15/01/2017 14:37

MrsHathaway I have a few lard making friends, and a few who make the crap glittery glass things!

VittysCardigan · 15/01/2017 14:37

I'm 47 (soon to be 48) still feel about 23 though GrinGrin Don't know where the hell the time has gone. I became a grandmother last year!

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 15/01/2017 14:37

Um...so OBVIOUSLY that should read "card making" 😁😁😁

FiveGoMadInDorset · 15/01/2017 14:46

So that's 9 squares all packed up for the post

FiveGoMadInDorset · 15/01/2017 14:56

I am now off to build the Titanic, may be some time

bookbook · 15/01/2017 15:04

afternoon!
I'm old - 61 , but it's surprising how these things seem to be having a resurgence in the last couple of years. Maybe a fight against total homogeny in things to buy in the shops, along with enjoyment in crafting in a hectic world
My DD is on here though - just taken up crotchet ( she is flutterworc) but I will let her give out her age , only fair !
Well done Five - I am aiming to post Wednesday/Thursday for the first batch.

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 15/01/2017 15:07

Sorry Pop - I can't help to disprove your theory about age as I'm 52!!!

TBH I only started crocheting 2 years ago when I was recovering from surgery and bored beyond anyone's conceivable immagination had time on my hands.

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 15/01/2017 15:16

Fairy a picture of my first ever square appeared on my "facebook memories" from four years ago yesterday! (it was also the day I watched my first PCBH epidode😁) so I can't even say it was a passed-down thing!

MedwayMumoffour · 15/01/2017 15:16

Just checking in. Only through my first six inch square so far full of the lergy 🤕

BigApple11 · 15/01/2017 15:33

I'm 42. But I only learnt to crochet about 5 years ago! Since then I've made blankets (many), hats (two), slipper socks (at least 9 pairs varying sizes) and a zillion granny squares.... crochet actually saved my mental health and I love it. Am frequently losing hooks but rather that than my mind. I only discovered MN about a year ago and joined in with Woolly Hugs as soon as I found them too. Best. Thing. Ever.
Whoops that wasn't meant to be an essay or half my life story Blush

PopGoesTheFuckingWeasel · 15/01/2017 15:35

BigApple Flowers

I hear you.
