We recently heard the tragic news that CritterPants’ son James died on the evening of the day he was born following devastating complications. There is no separate thread, Critter has been a rock to so many on the Conception TTC 10+++ thread, she still is, and is being supported there. Our thoughts are with James, Critter, her DH, their families and friends. Please do use this thread for messages to the family.

We have offered to make a blanket and lovely Critter has said she is so grateful and moved that we would do this kind and generous thing and that it means the world to her and her DH. Bless her heart. We hope that the blanket may give whatever comfort it can.

Thanks

So once again we are calling on the Blanketeers for help - whether it be donating, knitting or crocheting. Will you join us? ?

Knotty ( KnottyLocks ) will help with any crafting queries. All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts. Please do PM Knotty if you need help.

If you would like to donate wool or funds, I can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, I can help there too.
Please PM me with your offers of help ( RatherBeOnThePiste)

The Yarn we are Using….

  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (discontinued but some still around)
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
  • James C. Brett Pure Merino DK (also discontinued, some still to be had)
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear.

The colours we are using...

  • Mid to dark blues
  • Silvers
  • Cream - one of the following - Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru, James C. Brett Pure Merino DK no 7, Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 cream
  • Red - but only Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM6 ‘Ruby’ please.

Suggestions for squares
Snowflakes, bobbles, stars, stripes (Critter lives in the States with her American DH) and we have initials, both individually and if anyone can do a design with 3 initials on one square do message us.

Do use the crafting guide on the website to help you with lots of practical info such as help with buying colours, recommended online retailers and if interested there are a lot of linked suggestions for patterns. Squares to be 6 inches, using 4mm hook or needles.

Previous blankets can be seen on the Woolly Hugs website and we are on Facebook and Twitter at MNWoollyHugs/@MNWoollyHugs which are both good ways to keep in touch.

As always heartfelt thanks for your support

Thinking of baby James and his family

Thanks Knotty, I'll get started.

ControlGeek · 12/02/2014 09:15

Wool has been ordered (James C Brett Pure Merino DK No 7 cream & No 11 dark silver, Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM6 ruby, WM10 denim & WM14 grey). Please let me know if any of these shades aren't suitable and I'll save them for future need.

Bluetinkerbell · 12/02/2014 11:17

when I've finished my squares for Oma, I'll do a few for this one as well. Haven't got any appropriate colours of wool though. Shall pm to be matched up...

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/02/2014 15:14

Afternoon all :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/02/2014 15:18

Geek Yes please to the cream, ruby, denim and Jenny Watson WM14 grey, I think keep the James Brett 11 for another time. Thank you so much

Thanks
RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/02/2014 15:27

We have had such an amazing response for Critter, we are quite blown away. I'm hoping that all PMs have been replied to, it is being rather frustrating this afternoon. Tis probably the rain.

Wool is on the way to lovely crafters, this has been funded by our marvellous donors. Posted it all second class (apart from wool going out of the UK) so it may take a day or two, and it will arrive in a blue or green plastic envelope.

Huge and heartfelt thanks to our lovely donors our projects genuinely cannot function without them, and we have two to thank this afternoon.

Thanks MrsKwazii

Thanks Gowaygoway

You are stars. Thanks

If you use code BEMINE on the voucher/checkout bit at Deramores, it will knock 10% off of your total.

PastaandCheese · 12/02/2014 16:53

Well I was planning to make a start on Critter's squares but we're mid storm and all the lights just started flickering so i thought I'd best switch them out for some reason probably not based in science.

It's like the opening scene of the Wizard of Oz here......

ThatWayMadnessLies · 12/02/2014 17:45

Evening,

Went to the wool shop today and only blue that I could find was a Debbie bliss Rialto dk in navy (23017). Is this okay? I will order something else if it's too dark for the overall colour scheme.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/02/2014 18:07

Sounds perfect. Thank you Thanks

Jacksmania · 12/02/2014 18:20

Just read ThatWay's post - thank you so much for asking the question because that is the shade of blue I have, too. Also a mid-blue, and the Debbie Bliss cream we're using. Phew. Blush I don't have to buy any more wool for now.

What did I just say???? I'm happy I don't have to buy more wool?
I think I need to lie down.

sarlat · 12/02/2014 18:31

Another 10 pluser here. It is wonderful to see how many people care for critter, her husband and beautiful baby James. Critter really is a wonderful person with a strong, courageous but gentle heart. I have no knitting /crocheting skills but would like to donate for wool.

BellaVita · 12/02/2014 18:34

sarlat, if you pm Pistey, she will tell you how to donate.

Mhw02 · 12/02/2014 19:39

I'm so sorry to hear this. My thoughts and prayers and with Critter and her family.

I will do some squares. My local shop doesn't have any of the correct colours at the moment, so I'm going to have to order online. Any particular blue shades I should go for before I buy something unsuitable?

watchingout · 12/02/2014 22:16

I shall send you my first cream square Pistey. Finished tonight by candlelight with quiet thoughts of baby James. Critter has a lovely picture of the beautiful boy on her profile. Very humbling x

Ginestas · 13/02/2014 01:15

I'm another 10+er and have been very moved to read of the support and thoughts for critter. What happened was so truly awful. Critter is such a lovely supportive person and has been a very good friend on our thread. Thank you to everyone contributing and reaching out to critter and mr c.

I am rubbish at anything crafty involving wool, so will PM to find out how I can donate.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/02/2014 05:55

Morning all. Brew

Just coming to PMs right now. Thank you Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/02/2014 07:09

Thanks Thanks Thanks

Thank you so much to everyone, what an amazing response, think all PMs are replied to now, and I do believe we have crafters and donors joining us from all corners of the globe. So much love and support pouring out for the lovely Critters and her DH. Sometimes saying 'thank you' doesn't seem enough, but heartfelt thanks to all. Thanks

Lots of lovely folk, especially those from the 10+++ thread are learning to knit and crochet to join us, just awesome. Please if you need any help, just ask on here, woolly folk are brilliant and so supportive, or if you'd prefer PM KnottyLocks and she will be able to help too. No problem is too big or small.

Folk are asking about deadlines. Please no one worry, you will have plenty of time, we just need to make sure that crafters are getting wool and we are underway. But it will be four weeks or more from now.

Lovely Mhw02 How about I send you some blue, I have some here, and would be very happy to?

Thinking of James and his family X

SuperNappy · 13/02/2014 07:58

We're a friendly, helpful lot on the MN yarnaholics facebook page. If anyone has any queries about learning to knit or crochet we can help out. Please send me a pm and I can explain how to join if you want to.

yegodsandlittlefishes · 13/02/2014 08:56

Critterpants, I am overwhelmed at your generosity of heart in reaching out to others in your time of loss. Much love to your family. xx
