We recently heard the tragic news that CritterPants’ son James died on the evening of the day he was born following devastating complications. There is no separate thread, Critter has been a rock to so many on the Conception TTC 10+++ thread, she still is, and is being supported there. Our thoughts are with James, Critter, her DH, their families and friends. Please do use this thread for messages to the family.

We have offered to make a blanket and lovely Critter has said she is so grateful and moved that we would do this kind and generous thing and that it means the world to her and her DH. Bless her heart. We hope that the blanket may give whatever comfort it can.

Thanks

So once again we are calling on the Blanketeers for help - whether it be donating, knitting or crocheting. Will you join us? ?

Knotty ( KnottyLocks ) will help with any crafting queries. All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts. Please do PM Knotty if you need help.

If you would like to donate wool or funds, I can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, I can help there too.
Please PM me with your offers of help ( RatherBeOnThePiste)

The Yarn we are Using….

Snowflakes, bobbles, stars, stripes (Critter lives in the States with her American DH) and we have initials, both individually and if anyone can do a design with 3 initials on one square do message us.

Do use the crafting guide on the website to help you with lots of practical info such as help with buying colours, recommended online retailers and if interested there are a lot of linked suggestions for patterns. Squares to be 6 inches, using 4mm hook or needles.

Previous blankets can be seen on the Woolly Hugs website and we are on Facebook and Twitter at MNWoollyHugs/@MNWoollyHugs which are both good ways to keep in touch.

As always heartfelt thanks for your support

Still waiting on my wool delivery Does anyone have experience of wool4less.com's delivery times? The prices were impressive compared to Deramore's but I want my wool!

Utterly gorgeous Red wool just arrived. I've got three wee projects to finish this weekend then I'll get cracking.

I'm in - I have some lovely yarn donated directly by the lovely Macdog (in whichever exact name guise she's using at the moment). Thinking of Critter and off to make something with as much love crocheted into it as possible.

DH just threw a green parcel from pistey at me. Need to have a little think on a pattern but cannot wait to get started. More love being hooked into critter's blanket!

Just wanted to say a big, big, heartfelt thank you again to everyone, donors and crafters, for being so loving and honouring my little boy in this beautiful way. I can't thank you all enough for your generosity and kindness.

Karen - I'm so terribly sorry that you went through the experience of losing your baby too. I'll PM you. Thank you so much for the hand hold, it means a lot.

Oh Critter, bless you for taking the time to post here again. I can honestly say it means a so much to us and all those who have contributed.

Sadly, we know there are many crafters and donors who have also lost their precious ones.

We hope that this blanket can bring a little comfort during such a dark time. Xxxx

Critters, it is an honour to make a small contribution to your woolly hug, thank you. I also hope it will give you a great sense of the love that has gone into it. :)

Knotty & Pistey, please advise on which blue (out of: Artesano 1291, a mid sea blue; Sublime 0015 the dark denim or Debbie Bliss cashmerino 163, more of a navy) as I can't decide, but happy to use any or a mix.

KnottyLocks · 16/02/2014 07:58

I'd go with the darker ones, Yegods. Isn't that Artesano one quite bright?

I know I owe you a PM btw- will get that sorted this week Smile

So glad to hear wool is arriving safely with crafters, all that has been arriving in blue or green plastic envelopes via us has been paid for by our fabulous donors of funds. Bloomin stars Thanks

Ophelia Aaaarrrrrgggghhhhh!!!!! Was that ever going to happen!! Grin In Good News though, you can definitely finish that square now with your tonnes of teal!

ControlGeek Um, we have had problems with Wool4Less, firstly that name makes Knotty's teeth itch and drives her into a rage, but actually we have been messed around by them. As some companies do, if they don't have your yarn in stock, they seem to wait until they do again to honour your order, but don't tell you of the delay. Well, that is what they did with us. Some companies email and say there is a hold up, but certainly for us they didn't. I would call them and chase it, then if there is a sim problem you can choose to go elsewhere. Good luck, tis frustrating. Thanks

Welcome GleamingHeels and huge thanks to lovely Macdog for the donation, she's a bloomin star, we [heart] her Thanks

Somersaults Your squares will do your donor proud, they will be beautiful, but at their heart there will be love in every stitch. Can't get any better than that my lovely X Thanks

Thank you so much to everyone Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

Lovely organisers, a quick question before I get stuck in, do you prefer open or closed textured squares. As a crocheter, I tend to go for blankets with many holes in them, but not sure whether that is good for the overal look...

Lovely Critter, thanks for popping in, I hope the Thread shows the love we feel for you, mrC and James!

Hello there lovely :)

Have a look here, this was the last blanket to go to a family, lovely Team Survival, and you will see the sort of thing other folk made.

It would be difficult to use a very open square, as stunning as they can be, you know, the ones with more air than crochet as squares have to hold their own when hooked into the blanket.

Does that help?

Thank you so much for asking Thanks

Thank you, Knotty. I think the dark cashmerino looka best with the red. Pistey has pointed out that pins help a good deal with the assembly of the woolly hugs, and that a crochet join has wiggle room, which are top tips. No need to reply to pm unless there is some other tip you think might be pertinent. (And no rush at all) xx

What would be the last posting day? If possible I'd like to leave posting for a couple of weeks, but would that be too late?

Finished my first square working from home today, surely a crochet break was warranted. If I can work out how, I'll put a pic on my profile page. The not blocking does pain me. It will be nicer once flattened properly,
