I am afraid we bring very sad news. We heard recently that our SupermansBigRedBottleOfSpirits’ third child, beautiful baby Summer has died at nearly twelve weeks of age. Bless them all, such a devastating loss, we are so very sorry. Superman’s thread is here.

She and her family are in our hearts and thoughts, and we send them love. We are so pleased that they have accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug, there will be love for them all in every stitch. We hope it may give whatever comfort it can.

So lovely donors, knitters and crocheters, we will need help to make this happen, and will be so grateful if you can join with us. Thanks

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Thanks

Superman and her family have been thinking about their blanket and have come up with some lovely ideas for baby Summer. Bless them all.

Ideas for squares or separate embellishments :

Summery flowers - inc chrysanthemums
Butterflies.
Ladybirds
Lions

If you are able to offer initials, please PM.

Just from the brands listed below please because we know they combine for wash and wear.

  • Drops Merino Extra Fine DK (new this time)
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK (new this time)
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
    ?* Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (is being discontinued but some still around)

Superman’s family have requested bright and vibrant colours as they say these best reflect their beautiful daughter so....

  • Pinks (not pale)
  • Warm purples
  • Brighter greens
  • Creams - if using please use Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 ‘cream’ or Debbie Bliss Rialto 02 ‘ecru’

For accents/embellishments on squares, not whole squares pls :
  • Red but please only use Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM06 “Ruby”
  • Yellow for flower centres only
  • Turquoise.

?Do use the crafting guide on the website to help you with lots of practical info such as help with buying colours, recommended online retailers and if interested there are a lot of linked suggestions for patterns.

Previous blankets can be seen on the Woolly Hugs website and we are on Facebook and Twitter at MNWoollyHugs which are good ways to keep in touch.

This means so much to the family, thank you so much for joining with us

    Thanks

Such very sad news Sad

I'll have a root through my stash and get started on a couple of squares soon. I'm not sure if I have anything bright enough. Will look and report back to see what you think.

I lopped a bit of a finger off yesterday so my squares will be wonkier than usual I'm afraid Blush

Thanks Pistey, wool arrived this morning. I will get knitting early next week as I have DD school craft fair on Saturday and I am drowning in felt and sequins.

HairyPotter, OUCH!!!! :(
How did you manage that??

Report
HairyPotter · 29/11/2013 07:44

It's only a bit of a finger. I was chopping a mountain of veg for the guinea pigs and the lovely new, very sharp knife took a chunk of my index finger with it.

If it doesn't fall off, I should be fine for a wonky square or two. I think

I'd like to knit. It'll be basic, but I'd like to anyway. I know just what these blankets mean when they arrive.

Is basic any good?

Knotty is anyone doing a lion yet? If you pop over to Trib's support thread there's a link to a fab one. I can't promise I can pull it off but I could have a bash. Would need some advice on colours though. I don't mind putting in another Deramores order if necessary

Barbara - don't you just hate it when you don't have the yarn you need for a project, and have to buy more? Ohh the pain of purchasing yet more yarn! Grin

I'm giving a crochet lion a go - there is no pattern other than in my head :) As usual I plan on winging it!

Report
SoupDragon · 29/11/2013 09:35

I may need to buy some red yarn for a ladybird.

And then I'll need to add more to make up the free postage amount...

Dermores do cashback on quidco also. So if you get that and free postage you are practically making money Grin.

Soupy if you are on the case with a lion, I may honourably withdraw. Yours will be perfect I know!

Soupy I know I have a crochet lion square on Pinterest somewhere, I can look it out for you?
No sign of wool here yet, early days for me though Grin

We need to look into Cashback I think.

Good news that wool is arriving, more is soon to be on the way, just abut to go to the post office. If it comes in a blue plastic with a card from me, it has been paid for by our lovely donors, huge thanks as always to them.

Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

We have had two anonymous donations made towards Superman's blanket, and have sent our thanks via email, but just wanted to say thank you here too. Donated funds help so much and make all the difference. We really are grateful.THANK YOU! Thanks

I can do a couple of squares, I haven't contributed to any of the Woolly Hugs before, but should like to. Could also do some extra applique if that could be used?

I don't have any Woolly Hugs wool left in appropriate colours (used it all up on my last Little Hug) so will need to see what they have in John Lewis tomorrow.

Will PM Pistey now.
