I am afraid we bring very sad news. We heard recently that our SupermansBigRedBottleOfSpirits’ third child, beautiful baby Summer has died at nearly twelve weeks of age. Bless them all, such a devastating loss, we are so very sorry. Superman’s thread is here.

She and her family are in our hearts and thoughts, and we send them love. We are so pleased that they have accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug, there will be love for them all in every stitch. We hope it may give whatever comfort it can.

So lovely donors, knitters and crocheters, we will need help to make this happen, and will be so grateful if you can join with us. Thanks

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Thanks

Superman and her family have been thinking about their blanket and have come up with some lovely ideas for baby Summer. Bless them all.

Ideas for squares or separate embellishments :

Summery flowers - inc chrysanthemums
Butterflies.
Ladybirds
Lions

If you are able to offer initials, please PM.

Just from the brands listed below please because we know they combine for wash and wear.

  • Drops Merino Extra Fine DK (new this time)
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK (new this time)
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK ?* Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (is being discontinued but some still around)

  • Warm purples
  • Brighter greens
  • Creams - if using please use Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 ‘cream’ or Debbie Bliss Rialto 02 ‘ecru’

For accents/embellishments on squares, not whole squares pls :

  • Red but please only use Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM06 “Ruby”
  • Yellow for flower centres only
  • Turquoise.

?Do use the crafting guide on the website to help you with lots of practical info such as help with buying colours, recommended online retailers and if interested there are a lot of linked suggestions for patterns.

Previous blankets can be seen on the Woolly Hugs website and we are on Facebook and Twitter at MNWoollyHugs which are good ways to keep in touch.

This means so much to the family, thank you so much for joining with us

Thanks

Mine hasn't arrived in today's post, but I'm likely one of the furthest away - about 600 miles

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/11/2013 10:59

I forgot to say - is there any chance I could be sent some donor yarn for this square? I don't think I have much of the yarn left in my stash.

Thanks.

HoggyTruffle · 28/11/2013 11:59

Such a very sad story. Count me in for a couple of squares. I will attempt to PM.

blizy · 28/11/2013 13:46

I received my wool this morning, a lovely purple colour. I shall get hooking at the weekend. X

elfycat · 28/11/2013 17:05

I'd like to do a square or two. First time Woolly Hugging but I had had a sniffling moment over Superman's thread and now there's a Hug to be made.

I'll PM but I can get my own wool. Just registered with Deramores which might not be a good thing.

droitwichmummy · 28/11/2013 18:53

Pistey! Lovely wool for flowers arrived today. Thank you Flowers

tribpot · 28/11/2013 18:59

elfycat, probably best just to have your salary paid directly into your Deramores account from now on Grin

BellaVita · 28/11/2013 19:00

My wool order arrived today. Thank you for suggesting the colour Pistey, it is just such a lovely lovely colour. I have started already, although going very carefully has had a woolly disaaaster on my other square for the woolly hug blanket project and had to take it to work for the HOY 8 to sort out at lunchtime for me!

I have only ever donated funds before which I know is a huge help, but am feeling much much more involved doing the actual knitting. I feel quite nervous really as I am desperate for it to be perfect.

AthelstaneTheUnreadyFucker · 28/11/2013 19:01

I'm in, if that's still possible? Only I don't have any of the wools mentioned so will PM Pistey in case there's still some going begging. I woolly-blanketed under another name previously (at least, I think it was another name...) so you may recognise the address!

BellaVita · 28/11/2013 19:03

I so know what you mean elfy, I got a small order originally to start with then ordered about 6 more balls and now had my third delivery. Our living room is growing wool Grin. I even bought a crochet hook at the weekend.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 28/11/2013 19:10

Evening Wine

Thank you everyone, just marvellous! Thanks to those joining us this afternoon, we are very glad to have you on board X Thanks

SDTG - will pop woolly wool in the post to you tomorrow.

So glad you love the colour Bella tis gorgeous isn't it? So perfect here, tis certainly vibrant and bold - this is the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK Amethyst. Sadly now discontinued of course. And a hook you say? You know Bella, this isn't about being perfect, it is about love and thought, tis the important bit, bless you, big hugs. X

AthelstaneTheUnreadyFucker So, who are ya I wonder?!!!! I am guessing, wonder if I'm right Grin

I am off to PMs - the light is on :)

My wool arrived today, a gorgeous maroon. Thank you Thanks I'm about to grab my pattern book for inspiration and will start on a square tonight.

Lots of thoughts going to Superman x

WhereAreMyShoes · 28/11/2013 19:31

I received my beautiful wool today.
Thank you lovely donors, and Pistey and Knotty of course Thanks Wine

Superman, I have been thinking of you and your family and hope your woolly hug brings some small comfort.

I'm off to peruse some patterns for inspiration.

BellaVita · 28/11/2013 19:41

Oh yes I know it is about the love and thought Pistey, I am just hard on myself .

You and Knotty are doing a fantastic job of coordinating everything Flowers

gussiegrips · 28/11/2013 19:50

Did you get initials sorted out?

I'm just going out, but will pm later. I've got a computer programme for designing knit charts too.

Am more than happy to do anything helpful - been meaning to ask if you wanted a "woolly hugs" chart for a square.

Sorry for you loss, Superman. Will help make your blanket as comforting as it possibly can be.

BarbaraWoodlouse · 28/11/2013 19:59

Thanks for posting Superman, big hugs. Xxxx
