I am afraid we bring very sad news. We heard recently that our SupermansBigRedBottleOfSpirits’ third child, beautiful baby Summer has died at nearly twelve weeks of age. Bless them all, such a devastating loss, we are so very sorry. Superman’s thread is here.

She and her family are in our hearts and thoughts, and we send them love. We are so pleased that they have accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug, there will be love for them all in every stitch. We hope it may give whatever comfort it can.

So lovely donors, knitters and crocheters, we will need help to make this happen, and will be so grateful if you can join with us. Thanks

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Thanks

Superman and her family have been thinking about their blanket and have come up with some lovely ideas for baby Summer. Bless them all.

Ideas for squares or separate embellishments :

Summery flowers - inc chrysanthemums
Butterflies.
Ladybirds
Lions

If you are able to offer initials, please PM.

Just from the brands listed below please because we know they combine for wash and wear.

  • Drops Merino Extra Fine DK (new this time)
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK (new this time)
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK ?* Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (is being discontinued but some still around)

Superman’s family have requested bright and vibrant colours as they say these best reflect their beautiful daughter so....

  • Pinks (not pale)
  • Warm purples
  • Brighter greens
  • Creams - if using please use Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 ‘cream’ or Debbie Bliss Rialto 02 ‘ecru’

For accents/embellishments on squares, not whole squares pls :

  • Red but please only use Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM06 “Ruby”
  • Yellow for flower centres only
  • Turquoise.

?Do use the crafting guide on the website to help you with lots of practical info such as help with buying colours, recommended online retailers and if interested there are a lot of linked suggestions for patterns.

Previous blankets can be seen on the Woolly Hugs website and we are on Facebook and Twitter at MNWoollyHugs which are good ways to keep in touch.

This means so much to the family, thank you so much for joining with us

Thanks

Sounds like it'll be beautiful when finished Thanks

Macarooned · 09/01/2014 21:01

So glad they arrived and yes it's the butterfly garden pattern - I do enjoy making it as it sort if magically c

Macarooned · 09/01/2014 21:02

Oops

.....comes together on the 4th butterfly round. I do hope the edges aren't too crinkly and solid enough.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/01/2014 07:44

Morning Brew :)

Bless you Hop not a problem at all.

I do think that sometimes it is in the eye of the beholder. We had a lovely crafter who had their envelope weighed and measured at their local post office to get the right stamps, by the time it got here it was deemed too big and I had to pay excess! Must have grown en route Hmm

It certainly will be beautiful WhereAreMyShoes really bold, bright and vibrant, just perfect for baby Summer and her family.

Mac tis lovely, perfect for this project, edging is all fine, not a problem at all.

Thanks

I put it in the post and someone then said that if it's a large letter then it needs a large stamp rather than two small stamps. I figured as long as the postage ia correct it shouldn't matter if I use one stamp or 50 one penny stamps. Then I remembered that royal mail are generally a bit awkward at best.

SuperNappy · 10/01/2014 13:19

Thinking of baby Summer.

MNPinto2014 · 10/01/2014 15:31

Tis meant to be 4 hearts but flower is good Smile

elfycat · 11/01/2014 06:53

I posted mine and forgot to send a note (I'll blame either being a first time Hugger or that I used the minuscule moment between DD1 and DD2's chickenpox outbreaks to run to the post office and do all my other chores)

There should be 6 squares of crochet, 2x each of pink, green and cream in a padded envelope.

Trumpton · 11/01/2014 07:25

Finally posting today . Sorry for the delay. Thinking of Superman and baby Summer .

Much love to superman and thinking of baby summer x

Pistey - I have just sent you a PM.

Pesky ends just sewn in, let me know if you still want them or if they're too late - sorry :(

They would have come to you last week (which was still late I know!), but I had a little 'helper' - she's 8 and was 'just looking at it' (and asking why I was knitting it), some of the stitches 'fell off' the needle and she tried to pick them up... ending in a run down the whole thing (that was about a row off being finished). Once reassured I wasn't going to be cross - she said 'I just wanted to put cuddles in it for the baby' - Bless.

ZingSweetApple · 18/01/2014 15:33

Chipping

that is so sweet. I hope the cuddle enforced square is not too late.
