I am afraid we bring very sad news. We heard recently that our SupermansBigRedBottleOfSpirits’ third child, beautiful baby Summer has died at nearly twelve weeks of age. Bless them all, such a devastating loss, we are so very sorry. Superman’s thread is here.

She and her family are in our hearts and thoughts, and we send them love. We are so pleased that they have accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug, there will be love for them all in every stitch. We hope it may give whatever comfort it can.

So lovely donors, knitters and crocheters, we will need help to make this happen, and will be so grateful if you can join with us. Thanks

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert are equally welcomed. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Thanks

Superman and her family have been thinking about their blanket and have come up with some lovely ideas for baby Summer. Bless them all.

Ideas for squares or separate embellishments :

Summery flowers - inc chrysanthemums
Butterflies.
Ladybirds
Lions

If you are able to offer initials, please PM.

Just from the brands listed below please because we know they combine for wash and wear.

  • Drops Merino Extra Fine DK (new this time)
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK (new this time)
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK ?* Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (is being discontinued but some still around)
  • James Brett Pure Merino DK (also being discontinued but some still around)

Superman’s family have requested bright and vibrant colours as they say these best reflect their beautiful daughter so....

  • Pinks (not pale)
  • Warm purples
  • Brighter greens
  • Creams - if using please use Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 ‘cream’ or Debbie Bliss Rialto 02 ‘ecru’

For accents/embellishments on squares, not whole squares pls :

  • Red but please only use Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM06 “Ruby”
  • Yellow for flower centres only
  • Turquoise.

?Do use the crafting guide on the website to help you with lots of practical info such as help with buying colours, recommended online retailers and if interested there are a lot of linked suggestions for patterns.

Previous blankets can be seen on the Woolly Hugs website and we are on Facebook and Twitter at MNWoollyHugs which are good ways to keep in touch.

This means so much to the family, thank you so much for joining with us

Thanks

Pistey and Knotty

Hope everyone is enjoying boxing day! I have a little question, probably a bit silly - I have done two plain squares and flower embellishments to go on them. Am I ok to fasten them with a small button or would you rather I stitch it on?

KnottyLocks · 26/12/2013 23:35

Not a silly question at all Smile

We tend to avoid buttons on our blankets for a variety of reasons, so stitched on flowers if possible please.

CoffeeandChocolateplease · 27/12/2013 11:28

Thank you, I seemed to remember something about no buttons but couldn't be sure! Will stitch them on. Thank you!

Just mailed my square yesterday evening. Gave it a kiss for Superman and sent it on its way to go to work! I think it turned out well, you'll have to let me know what you think. I'm getting better with flowers.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 28/12/2013 22:55

Thanks lovely Jacks you really are a star X

Just thinking, we are away for a few days now, so if ready to post, maybe hang on until the end of next week, or they could well get stuck in the sorting office.

Not sure about wifi but will check in as and when I can.

Thank you. X

Thanks

I sent my four squares for Summer yesterday, completely forgetting you were going to be away.

WhoremoaneeGrainger · 29/12/2013 22:48

Have just seen the other post Pistey. Thank you so much. Twas done, twisting the two colours on that final row. Enjoyed being able to finish it, and do the two for Superman.

Wherever you are off to, have a lovely, restful time.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 31/12/2013 04:31

Thanks lovely. X And don't worry Bella, I can get from the sorting office. [thumbsup]

KnottyLocks · 03/01/2014 12:12

Pm sent, I hope! System seems a bit creaky today.

Kveta · 04/01/2014 22:46

I'm an eejit and sent my two squares yesterday but no note (found it on the table when I got home). Anyway, two pink squares, some remaining jenny Watson pink yarn, and a butterfly is from me (with some purple sublime yarn accents from my own stash!)

Sorry for any confusion!
