We have heard the shocking and devastating news that TrinityRhino's DP died suddenly this weekend. Very sadly, many of us will also know that Trinity tragically lost her DH four years ago. Trinity's thread is here
She and her girls are in our thoughts and we send them much love.

We've offered to make them a blanket in the hope it may give whatever comfort it can.

So we are now asking for help once again Thanks

Pistey (RatherBeOnThePiste) will co-ordinate and I'll be here to answer any queries you may have. We need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool).
If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc.

Thank you so much Thanks

The wool we are using

  • James C. Brett Pure Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (being discontinued, but still some around)
  • Rowan Cashsoft DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK (new to us)

Just from these please as they are very similar and we know they can be combined for wash and wear. These are all easily available online, try Deramores, Laughing Hens, RKMWools, AWoollyTail, WiseBadger.

The Colours
Warm purples, blues, silvers and cream
If choosing cream please go for either the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013 or the James Brett no 7
Green and pink but only for embellishments

Suggestions for motifs
*Fishing, fish and the sea
*Themes from nature, flowers
*A submarine, a gecko
*A teddy bear, a crocodile (for Trin's teddy bear in a crocodile suit)
*We have their initials if you would like to help with this, please PM Pistey.

Thanks

Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Previous blankets can be seen on our website We also have a Facebook page MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you like or follow us you'll be updated on progress via your feed. If looking for ideas for a pattern, there are many linked to from our website under Crafting

When ready for posting, please PM Pistey for info.

As always, we thank you so much for your support. Thanks

I was really hoping you guys would do one for Trinity so I am pleased to help where I can.

My donor wool has arrived. Thanks to my lovely donor and Pistey for arranging it

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/05/2013 10:21

Morning Brew

Good news MBJ, really hoping to hear of lots of woolly arrivals today, thanks to our lovely donors Thanks

Thanks Terrys - let us know Thanks

Pancakeflipper · 16/05/2013 11:51

Ooh my wool has arrived.

It's gorgeous. Lovely donor thank you. Not knitted in this colour before ( actually I don't know colour it is - I would say grey but that does not do it justice. A very Farrow and Ball colour).

Off to find needles and decide what to do.

PurplePidjin · 16/05/2013 12:02

I have gorgeous woolly wool. Thank you Pistey and donors! Thanks

RiaOverTheRainbow · 16/05/2013 12:47

Some lovely blue and silver wool arrived today from Pistey, thanks very much!

HoggyTruffle · 16/05/2013 15:00

I'm a bit late to this but would like to contribute. It's just so sad to see there have been 3 families recently in need of a Woolly Hug. Will PM.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/05/2013 16:12

Good to hear that woolly wool is arriving with crafters, thanks to the donors again.

Hoggy Thanks I am just coming to PMs now, thank you.

Thanks
Gigaflops · 16/05/2013 16:17

Wool has arrived - thank you to the lovely donor, it's a gorgeous purple... I'll get started tonight. Still can't believe we're doing this again... Hmm

GlaikitFizzog · 16/05/2013 16:37

I have started with the James Brett. Although its not as squishy as the DB cashmerino, I'm not finding it splitty, but I have a habit of snipping the first 6" of a ball off and I noticed that had unraveled a bit. Maybe worth thinking about snipping off the first wee bit, might avoid some of the issues some of you are having.

Jacksmania · 16/05/2013 17:19

Ugh. I'm sorry - I am under so much time pressure the next two weeks, before we're flying to Ontario for a family wedding and to see my parents, that I think I'm only going to get through my other ball of apple green wool. I haven't had much luck finding the required yarns in my local shops, although I imagine if I order online it will get here really quickly --- but it's finding the time to turn it into something useful!!

Knotty and Pistey, if I only manage to send six squares (three pale blue and three apple green), would you be able to use them for all three current blankets? I really want to add something to Trinity's blanket - could you maybe reserve one of my blue squares for hers? Or I have enough pale blue yarn left to do a flower...

Sorry I'm being so feeble, things here are just so darn busy right now :(

GlaikitFizzog · 16/05/2013 17:26

Jacks calm down have a Brew I'm sure 6 squares will be plenty.

Can I help you with yarn? I could buy it here and post it (depending on charges) to you. Might work out cheaper and quicker for you, and save you time having to scroll through the Internet to find the right ones.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 16/05/2013 17:57

Jacks, Jacks, Jacks. Smile Please don't fret like this X Send the squares, we will split them so you have something in each of the three.

Not feeble, busy, tis very different!

KnottyLocks · 16/05/2013 18:39

Jacks

Don't make me come over there. Your squares will be most marvellous and we'll share them over the blankets.

Have pm'd but not sure how successful it was.
Beautiful purple wool arrived today. Thank you to my lovely donor Thanks
I shall crack on once the kids are asleep

Thinking of Trinity in this awful time Sad

gonerogue · 16/05/2013 18:50

I'll make a few squares for Trinity's blanket. PM on it's way to Pistey.

tribpot · 16/05/2013 19:07

Chillax, Jacks. (Rhyme intentional). Six is plenty!

TerrysNo2 · 16/05/2013 19:32

I have lots of wool but no idea what they are, mainly cottons and Stan weight so I don't think I have any of those wools. IIRC I posted back the remnants of my last wool with the last square I did.

I can go to my local wool shop tomorrow but they don't have many wools. If they don't have any can I get some donor wool instead?

TerrysNo2 · 16/05/2013 19:33

Stan = aran!!

schooldidi · 16/05/2013 19:39

Hi, sorry I've missed this thread for the past couple of days, work has been manically busy this week.

Do we have a last posting date for this one yet? I can get some more wool on Saturday.

HairyPotter · 16/05/2013 20:16

Evening Woollies Brew

Do we have a new cream yet? I need to order some today or tomorrow and always like a ball or two in my stash.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 16/05/2013 23:12

Hairy, Pistey sent me some James Brett Pure Merino cream. The label is torn, though, so I can't see a colour code. Pistey will know.

KnottyLocks · 16/05/2013 23:16

Hairy, the James Brett cream is in the Op but we've added a new one to the list. Will find the colour code in the morning, if that's ok.
Apologies - been a busy workday here.

Blush Thanks all - sorry I was in such an arse-freezing panic this morning. I tend to get a bit anxious when I can't super-perform to my own expectations Blush which are usually ridiculous.

I will send my six squares (when I get through the green wool) and a flower for Trin's blanket, that's the best I can do right now.

Glaikit - you are a love. I really appreciate the offer and the hair stroking. I'm having one of those days when kindness makes me feel like crying so I must have needed it Blush

Will be curious to see what the new cream colour is going to be - I think I'll buy a bunch of that so I always have a "safe" colour in stock.

Thanks to all of you.
xx

Jacksmania · 16/05/2013 23:26

Just another quick question - when you pick the new "stock" cream yarn, would you still take squares made from Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013?

Because there is a yarn shop in Toronto near where my mum lives that still sells it - but only in packs of 10. It seems a bit pricey CDN $9.79 per ball, which comes to GBP 6.30 - or is that reasonable for this yarn? Again, not trying to be cheap - just wanting to get good value.
