We have heard the shocking and devastating news that TrinityRhino's DP died suddenly this weekend. Very sadly, many of us will also know that Trinity tragically lost her DH four years ago. Trinity's thread is here
She and her girls are in our thoughts and we send them much love.

We've offered to make them a blanket in the hope it may give whatever comfort it can.

So we are now asking for help once again Thanks

Pistey (RatherBeOnThePiste) will co-ordinate and I'll be here to answer any queries you may have. We need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool).
If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc.

Thank you so much Thanks

The wool we are using

  • James C. Brett Pure Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (being discontinued, but still some around)
  • Rowan Cashsoft DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK (new to us)

Just from these please as they are very similar and we know they can be combined for wash and wear. These are all easily available online, try Deramores, Laughing Hens, RKMWools, AWoollyTail, WiseBadger.

The Colours
Warm purples, blues, silvers and cream
If choosing cream please go for either the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013 or the James Brett no 7
Green and pink but only for embellishments

Suggestions for motifs
*Fishing, fish and the sea
*Themes from nature, flowers
*A submarine, a gecko
*A teddy bear, a crocodile (for Trin's teddy bear in a crocodile suit)
*We have their initials if you would like to help with this, please PM Pistey.

Thanks

Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Previous blankets can be seen on our website We also have a Facebook page MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you like or follow us you'll be updated on progress via your feed. If looking for ideas for a pattern, there are many linked to from our website under Crafting

When ready for posting, please PM Pistey for info.

As always, we thank you so much for your support. Thanks

I would like o report that I appear to have figured out the granny square :o :o :o

At least I have done one and it looks quite nice, I think Blush.

I am going to attempt another today, in contrasting colours, and then a flower or two. Should easily be able to mail on Monday the 10th. And since I'll be mailing them from Toronto instead of Vancouver, they shouldn't be quite as tired as the last batch :o

Fizzy, the Sublime yarn is just gorgeous. I love how it feels. I think it's my new favourite, which is good news because I believe it is actually available somewhere local to me. Thanks, you are so lovely!

Two granny squares done - both in light blue and dark blue, but one more light blue and the other more dark, so they're the same but opposite, if that makes sense. And two sweet little flowers that turned out rather well, for a novice / well, sort of novice [impressed with self emoticon].

Will post tomorrow :)

GlaikitFizzog · 05/06/2013 21:38

Well done Jacks! Pics would good!

Jacksmania · 05/06/2013 21:54

Ok... just for you. Gimme a sec :o

Jacksmania · 05/06/2013 22:01

Ermmm... WTF? Where has the "My Mumsnet" thing gone, I can't figure out how to get into my profile from the desktop site to add a picture Confused.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 05/06/2013 22:07

Tis all bonkers Jacks.

PMs very weird too. Wine

GlaikitFizzog · 05/06/2013 22:09

Jacksmania · 05/06/2013 22:09

GlaikitFizzog · 05/06/2013 22:10

does this work?

GlaikitFizzog · 05/06/2013 22:11

Alternatively there is a link on a thread in site stuff. The sticky at the top

blondieminx · 05/06/2013 22:15

Just seen this - am I too late to sign up?

So sad for Trinity, there are just no words Sad

deep breath

I'd like to have a go at hooking a square this time rather than donating wool. I've said that out loud now haven't I?! Eeek.

Jacksmania · 05/06/2013 22:27

Blondie!!!!!! Hello darling!!!!

Ok, pic should be on profile now but - again - WTF, it's replaced all my pictures with the one of the squares I've done Confused

So my bragging yoga pics are invisible Blush

Fizzy and Blondie, since I have you on my FB you can see them, but now I can't impress Knotty or Pistey or anyone else Angry [grrrrrr]

blondieminx · 05/06/2013 22:33

Hiya Jacks that's what I call a welcome! Grin I confess to the terrible sin of not RTFT... It was a v quick post while I spotted this in active convo's...

Your yoga pics are amazing haha! On the iPhone ATM (old app!) so can't see wooly pics but will do next time I'm logged into a proper pooter!

GlaikitFizzog · 05/06/2013 22:34

I think tech is working on a fix! They will be back!

Btw jacks, I've signed up for a yoga class, starts next week! I'm so not bendy it's a disgrace, she might throw me out! I'll practice ohm-ing!

Jacksmania · 05/06/2013 23:04

I'm still not very bendy. Chaos always calls me "my bendy friend" and I always say I'm stronger than I am bendy, although I'm getting better every year. Yoga rocks. Not in a freaky hippy-dippy way :o

Blondie :o

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 05/06/2013 23:24

Posted 2 squares this afternoon.
Have since had more ideas and wish I'd incorporated Cliff's hat Sad

Your squares are great Jacks and the yoga descriptions are even better left to the imagination! Grin

RatherBeOnThePiste · 06/06/2013 07:01

blondieminx · 06/06/2013 20:58

Thanks Pistey gulp that means i'd better order some wool eh!

Jacksmania · 06/06/2013 22:22

Pistey, I found a yarn shop here in Toronto that stocks a lot of the yarns we use - including the sadly discontinued Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK! If I stock up on some, is it ok to use it for blankets? Or are you switching away from it entirely? I especially wanted to check about the shade of beige (013?) because they sell a 10-pack of it. I would hate to buy 10 balls of it and find we're not using it any longer.

Or would I be safer to buy Sublime or Rowan?

Jacksmania · 06/06/2013 22:27

Oh, and I posted my squares today :)
They should be with you within 10 days.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 07/06/2013 07:23

Morning Smile Brew Brew Brew Brew Brew Brew Brew Brew Brew Brew Brew Brew Brew Smile

We will be using the DB cashmerino DK until it runs out Jacks, tis a real shame it has been discontinued as it's such a lovely woolly wool, having said that, just used the Rialto and that is as lovely. The 013 cream is very similar to the Rialto cream and JB cream, so no reason not to stock up, and it is a core colour. Three of my face colours are DB cash DK - apple, mauve (warmer purple than it sounds) and denim Sad

Sadly the Rowan is being discontinued too Sad
