We have heard the dreadfully sad and shocking news that SurvivalOfTheUnfittest's husband died suddenly towards the end of April. We send Survival our love and are so sorry for her loss. She, their boys, family and friends are in our hearts and thoughts.

She calls her family Team Survival, and we have offered to make them a blanket, and hope it may give whatever comfort it can. We are so pleased she has accepted, there will be love for all of them crafted into every stitch. Survival's thread is here Sad

So we are now asking for help once again Thanks

I will co ordinate and Knotty (KnottyLocks) will help you with any queries you may have. We need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool) Sincere heartfelt thanks. If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM me with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, I can help you with all of it.

Thank you so much Thanks

The wool we are using

  • James C. Brett Pure Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (being discontinued, but still some around)
  • Rowan Cashsoft DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK (new to us)

Just from these please as they are very similar, have been trialled and we know they can be combined for wash and wear. These are all easily available online, try Deramores, Laughing Hens, JKMWools, AWoollyTail, WiseBadger.

The Colours
Blues, silvers and cream
If choosing cream, please go for either the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013 or the James Brett no 7
Green but only for embellishments please
There is support for buying colours on our website, here.

Suggestions for personalisations and motifs
*Her DH loved football and designed Land Rovers for a living.
*They all very much love the great outdoors, so themes from nature.
*Forget-me-not flowers in particular are very significant.
*Their two boys love teddies and Lego.
*They also love Angry Birds - if you think this could be you, please PM
*We have their initials, if you would like to help with this, please also PM.

Thanks

Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook.

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

Previous blankets can be seen on our website We also have a Facebook page MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' or 'follow' us you'll be updated on progress via your feed. If looking for ideas for a pattern, there are many linked to from our website under Crafting

Pistey and Knotty Thanks

Hello, I've nearly finished a plain blue square for this. I've just seen in the first post that forget-me-nots are a special flower for TeamSurvival, I have a lovely little pattern to try out, would it be okay to use a very small amount of yellow for the centre of the flowers? If so is there a specific one I should use. Thank you :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 22/05/2013 21:26

Sounds lovely, thank you. Thanks

I have some of the yellow we are using. If you PM me your address, I can pop some in the post tomorrow.

Fabulous. Thank you Pistey have PM'ed you :)

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 23/05/2013 16:07

Went to the wool shop earlier to get wool for my forget-me-nots and the lady has managed to fob me off with baby cashmerino despite me telling her that's not what I wanted. Should've checked the bag but I was about to throw up so had to rush out Blush I shall have to order the right kind online instead! Any ideas for something I can make with one ball of blue baby cashmerino? :)

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 23/05/2013 16:08

Oops this isn't the chat thread sorry! :)

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 23/05/2013 20:36

Posted mine today. For the first time ever, there's no chocolate in it Sad since the postage prices went up so much. Sorry.

Jacksmania · 23/05/2013 22:06

Posted my squares :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 23/05/2013 23:01

Postal charges are bloody mad aren't they? We were Shock at how much it all costs. But really no apologies, they should be apologising to us! Actually the lovely man in my PO did apologise.

But thank you all so much Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks

Wait... we're supposed to send chocolate???

I didn't get that memo Blush

Sorry Knotty and Pistey, I shall have to do better in future!

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 24/05/2013 09:43

No requests to send chocolate Jacks , I just traditionally sent a bar of chocolate in with my squares because I felt to guilty about the poor suckers attaching all the squares together Grin

But it would change it from large letter rate to a parcel so about 3quid extra to send a £2 bar of chocolate Confused

JulesJules · 24/05/2013 16:47

I've just sent mine off

  • Daisy's squares, Team S's squares and my what sort of blanket is it blanket.* I've put it all in one postabag (so one lot of postage) but they are all labelled.
  • and some chocolate
GoingGoingGoth · 25/05/2013 10:47

Just about to post mine, didn't think about chocolate , but loads of love to whichever sucker kindly soul is putting the squares together Grin

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 25/05/2013 11:34

Poor hookers, I meant, obviously Grin
