With heavy hearts we bring the desperately sad news that My5boysandme has lost her precious baby son Dexter. We have offered to make the family a blanket, and hope it may give whatever comfort it can to them. We are so pleased that they have accepted. My5boysandme sends thanks to all and is very touched by everyone's kindness and compassion. Here is her original thread Sad

We send My5boysandme all our love and are so sorry for her loss. We are keeping her family close in our thoughts. X

So once again we are calling on the Blanketeers for help - whether it be donating, knitting or crocheting. Will you join us?

If you would like to help in anyway, please post on this thread but also PM me so we know. If you are able to donate, I can match you up with a crafter, or give you our donating information. I will co ordinate, match and deal with any admin. Knotty is here to answer any questions you may have. Sincere heartfelt thanks once again Thanks

As in the past, for consistency, the wools we are using are:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)
  • Rowan Cashsoft DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK

4mm knitting needles or hooks
6" squares, as simple or as complex as you like.

The Colours
Greens, blues, silvers, dark/warm purple and cream.
If choosing cream, we ask that you go for the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013

Here is our website Do use the Crafting Guide on it to help you with practical info, and if interested there are a lot of linked suggestions for squares.

Previous blankets can also be seen on the website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' our FB page then you will get all our updates on our progress via your newsfeed.

So sad that another blanket is needed. Sending much love to My5boysandme and her family, and thinking of baby Dexter.

After posts on here i could see who my crafter was and made contact.

Today she has posted a photo to let me see the wonderful squares she has made and i am so pleased, they are fabulous.

It is so wonderful that what starts with click of a mouse to send some wool results in something so lovely that will hopefully bring much comfort to My5.

MmeLindor · 25/10/2012 12:25

oh, damn. Sorry, Pistey - I was ill earlier this week and forgot to organise the wool. Do you still need me to send it to the same person, or should I send it somewhere else?

Am happy to donate an extra lot of wool, as penance for my sins.

PM me with an address or two, and I will sort it out today.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 25/10/2012 12:46

Please count me in for this blanket - I will get a square done and sent off ASAP.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/10/2012 12:53

Bless you MmeL, you've had a lot going on, hopefully you are feeling better now, no apologies needed, and thank you X Thanks

I shall come and help you now Smile

And Hokey, I love our little woolly community. Nest of vipers? Not from where I'm standing. The spirit and essence of the blankets right there, that is lovely to read, thank you for posting X

HANDS UP here too...

I only just ordered the wool for my lovely knitter today.

Pesky RL has been getting in the way [hshock]

KnottyLocks · 25/10/2012 21:24

Pesky RL has a habit of doing that.

Thanks, Cat. Bless you Smile

droitwitchymummy · 25/10/2012 22:31

Quick message for donors whose rl has delayed their posting plans.
We crafters really appreciate your contributions to the woolly hugs. Many of us could not do our bit without you. Please don't feel guilty about life getting in the way, it just gives us more time to plan what to do (and catch up on the many projects we have on at the same time)
Thanks

I posted some squares to you yesterday Pistey

Mathsdidi · 26/10/2012 10:05

I've finished my squares. The photos should be on my profile, sorry they're a bit blurry.

I just need to sew in the ends and they'll be in the post either this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

Pastabee · 26/10/2012 11:43

Posted. Time for Brew and Biscuit now.

BarbaraWoohoohoodlouse · 26/10/2012 12:33

Question for Fizzy or indeed anyone else who has done, or has thoughts on, a diagonal stripey square. If I do narrow stripes, do I need to cut the wool each time or can I carry it over in some way? Hope that makes sense. TIA Smile

Mermaidspam · 26/10/2012 13:21

Phew! Lovely wool received today, 2 parcels - 1 ball green and 2 balls purple
Thank you to my wonderful donors
Thanks Thanks Thanks

Mermaidspam · 26/10/2012 13:25

Beautiful squares Mathsdidi

GlaikitFizZombie · 26/10/2012 13:31

I just carried the wool up the sides Barbara. I did have to break it off when I got to the middle and started the decreases though as it got a bit messy.

Best way is to slightly twist the yarn as you do the first stitch of that row. Top right in this pic is a 3 colour diagonal 2 rows of each colour with the other 2 carried up the sides.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/10/2012 14:16
