Support thread for Mumof2TeenBoys' and Expat's Blankets

Following on from the terrible news of the loss of Mumof2TeenBoys' ds, a new Woolly Hugs project has been started and, as ever, MNers have stepped up to offer whatever little comfort we can to Mumof and her family. We also keep close in our thoughts Aillidh, the dd of expatinscotland, who died yesterday.

We've put together some general info mostly about knitting but with some crochet bits thrown in, which should get you started but please feel free to ask for any help - I'm not sure if the crocheters are going to set up a new support thread but their current one is found here.

Please dive in - we will inevitably end up talking bollocks rubbish at some point but all are welcome aboard.

Yes, ass the parcel - what the hell kind of party games happen Chez Shredded? Shock Wink

Well I have been very busy with non-square knitting work - this is Baroness Grey-Thompson DBE, you will notice the close resemblance between the two Confused She is going in the window of the local yarn shop for their Knitlympics display, if I can get her finished and build her a racing wheelchair out of pipecleaners and whatnot before the cast-on party tonight.

I haven't mentioned the Ravellenic Games on this thread I don't think - is anyone else taking part? That's what the cast-on party is for.

I need help

pretty taught me how to cable at the Glasgow meet up Thanks and I'm almost finished a square. But I have questions!

www.flickr.com/photos/80371666@N07/7655566650

  1. Does it look to chunky for the blanket?
  2. it's a 10 row repeat but where do I stop? It's nearly 6" at the moment.
  3. the bottom row is pretty uneven because of the cable, if it is usuable would that cause problems hooking up?

It's not as wonky at the side edges as it looks though, it's curling and I couldn't get it to lie still. I don't mind if it isn't going to be ideal for the blanket so I won't be offended. It has been a good learning project.

Any advice would be great. Star

Blush have had to repost here as just noticed I was on the wrong thread! Grrr

TeamGlaikitBritain · 27/07/2012 13:07

Sory hairy I've never cabled before. Wish I could help.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 27/07/2012 13:08

It looks lovely to me Hairy, but I'm a new blanketeer so don't have any advice.

I am very Envy about your meet up Grin. Were there many of you?

HairyPotter · 27/07/2012 13:13

Loving the new name Glakit very appropriate Grin

nsns it was fab! We had cake and lattes and pretty and sdtg knitted like mad and Glakit and me didn't do a stitch Blush

The highlights are on the meet up thread, we scooped up a random knitter looking for a different group and I ended up stealing a tea towel!

TheInvisiblePoster · 27/07/2012 13:38

I've just added a pic to my profile of a flower square for Expats blanket but unfortunately got a little carried away with myself.

I made the centre of the flower using a very pale yellow rowan that I had left over and then realised that we're not using yellow in these blankets.

Please have a look and let me know if it's usable or not. The flower isn't attached yet so the basic square can be used without it. Thanks X

Poster, I think it looks lovely but Knotty is the Yellow Hater, so you will have to convince her I think - maybe PM her and ask.

Hairy - looks good. I would stop about where you are as you're at the top of a cable, I think. Don't worry about the bottom being a bit wiggly, that shouldn't cause a problem.

The Baroness is ready.

Trib, that it fab!!

I'm getting all excited about the Olympics! It gives me a great excuse to sit and knit!! Giraffe take three is underway. I really need to concentrate on it though as no two rows are the same.

Invisible, I think that little bit of yellow should get throughQC stick something sweet in with your parcel, bribery gets you every where!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/07/2012 18:40

trib - tis OK, the yellow is sorted Smile

tribpot · 27/07/2012 18:45

I'm genuinely more excited to be taking part in the Ravellenic Games, I think Grin but then I'm more of a winter Olympics kinda gal.

Hope there will be some brilliant sporting moments, though, and everything goes off peacefully.

RedRosie · 27/07/2012 22:07

I've been a bit out of it all lately for various reasons ... But everyone's efforts are wonderful and you are all so clever

:)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/07/2012 23:19

Oi Smile

You are very clever too Rosie!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 28/07/2012 00:03

Hairy - sounds fab! Loving the Baroness trib, she looks great!

We're off on hols tonight, so I'll catch up with y'all when I'm back. Happy knitting/hooking everyone Smile

TeamGlaikitBritain · 28/07/2012 15:55

I have defeated the giraffe! photo here!

It was quite stressful, I could not be disturbed. The phone rang, it was my mum, she had to wait until I finished the row I was on!

droitwichmummy · 28/07/2012 16:15

Fabulous Glaikit!

tribpot · 28/07/2012 16:30

Glaikit that is brilliant!

TeamGlaikitBritain · 28/07/2012 17:52

Thanks guys! I still have a fair bit of wool left so I think I'll do some plain squares now, save taxing my brain anymore!

RedRosie · 28/07/2012 18:17

Well done Glaikit.

So clever.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 28/07/2012 19:56

which is high praise Grin

More thank yous on the threads tonight Thanks

HairyPotter · 29/07/2012 00:01

Glakit that is fab! Well done. DD2 said exactly the same thing word for word as pistey's dd, so double the praise there Grin

LackaDAISYcal · 29/07/2012 12:07

Lovely giraffe glaikit...vair clever!
I'm doing battle with cables and multiple increases. They are currently winning, especially as I keep losing one of my increased stitches. I also can't understand bits of the chart. Sad as it's a lovely design.

otoh, I have done three lovely crochet squares that I am inordinately pleased with. I may need to defect to team hookers on a permanent basis Wink
