Following on from the terrible news of the loss of Mumof2TeenBoys' ds, a new Woolly Hugs project has been started and, as ever, MNers have stepped up to offer whatever little comfort we can to Mumof and her family. We also keep close in our thoughts Aillidh, the dd of expatinscotland, who died yesterday.

We've put together some general info mostly about knitting but with some crochet bits thrown in, which should get you started but please feel free to ask for any help - I'm not sure if the crocheters are going to set up a new support thread but their current one is found here.

Please dive in - we will inevitably end up talking bollocks rubbish at some point but all are welcome aboard.

prettybird · 25/07/2012 20:11

I'll be driving down to London on Friday (going to stay with a lovely MNer) - I might try knitting in the car :) when it's not my turn to drive Wink

pixiestix · 25/07/2012 21:16

Blanketeers, can I ask a really stupid question? Blush I've nearly finished a square in seed stitch and I need to cast off on a WS row but I can't figure out which side is WS! In words of one syllable and speaking very slowly, can anyone advise? Grin Is my bit of dangly wool from my slip knot at the start going to be on the left or the right when I start to cast off?

Sorry. I am improving at a rate of knots, honest!

prettybird · 25/07/2012 21:25

Honestly doesn't matter for these squares as the crochet linking them together will cover the edge.

prettybird · 25/07/2012 21:26

Posted too soon - so just cast-off when you're happy with the length.

pixiestix · 25/07/2012 21:27

Brilliant! What a relief. It would be just like me to sod it all up right at the end. I am Very Slow. Grin

Yuuuussssss! Shredded 1, Lighthouse 0. (Not very) good picture on my profile Smile

droitwichmummy · 26/07/2012 08:11

It's lovely shredded - you are better than you think you are!

WheresMyCow · 26/07/2012 08:39

Morning Brew

Your lighthouse looks fab shredded

Well, I've finally got started on a sqaure...1 inch down 5 to go!! Took me a while to get the hang of casting on (tried various methods but have decided that I like cable cast on the best, thanks for the link trib)

There has been lots and lots and lots of frogging, but I actually got into the swing of knitting again last night Grin I only hope that the successful knitting continues tonight.

Glaikit · 26/07/2012 11:25

I'm going for third time lucky on my giraffe square, I some how managed to start on the wrong row, and it's too complicated for me to tink back and pick up at the right spot.i was 5 rows from finishing! Argh!

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 26/07/2012 12:03

The light house is fab Shredded - well done.

I have also done large amounts of tinking and frogging recently - far more than normal. i have decided my brain is not concentrating on knitting properly, so I
have gone for an easier pattern so that I can lose my place and still know whats going on

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 26/07/2012 14:06

Oh no Glaikit, what a pain. Dances, lots of tinking and frogging and muttering going on here last night as well. The Wine I'd had a leaving do before I came home didn't help Grin.

I've now officially run out of wool. I have more on the way, but hadn't realised I was ordering from the UK, so it will probably not arrive in time for me to take on holiday tomorrow. I'll have to spend my evenings talking to poor DH instead Grin.

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 26/07/2012 14:07

Thanks droitwich and wheresmycow Smile

prettybird · 26/07/2012 15:35

Lighthouse is brilliant Shredded - very effective! :)

MinnieBar · 26/07/2012 17:34

I LOVE that lighthouse! Brilliant!

T-40 hrs to DD1's birthday party and I am in full-on panic mode, so not much knitting will get done between now and then - instead I'll be wrapping pass the parcel etc. However Tuesday I have childcare and currently NO WORK - so I will spend almost all the time knitting. Bliss!

A crochet square would be lovely, or send the spare wool in for embellishments/redistribution?

Or organise a meet up and swap colours with someone...

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 27/07/2012 00:01

Gee, thanks for all your kind words about the lighthouse Blush Flowers

Minnie - hope the party goes well! I am guessing the guests are fairly little still if you're going to be playing ass the parcel

Triple - I like your Olympic name!

NeitherShreddedNorSmug · 27/07/2012 00:01

Ooops, Thanks of course!

DancesWithWoolsEnPointe · 27/07/2012 06:34

Nice name change Puddles - Maybe I'll change to DancesWithWoolForGold for the next 2 weeks Grin

I have only a square and a half to go, and have some odds and ends of wool - I can post you some extra wool sometime next week when I'm done if you like? PM me if you want it, otherwise I'll send it to Pistey for hooking the blankie together.

MinnieBar · 27/07/2012 07:30

at 'ass the parcel'!

Yes, DD1 will be 4, although she's been going on 14 for some time. I asked her to put something of hers away yesterday and she muttered 'OFGS' before stomping off to do it. DD1 (2) puts her hands on her hips and snort/sighs if she can't get her way (before lying on the floor and wailing of course). Knitting helps keep me sane? when I get a chance to do it!

MinnieBar · 27/07/2012 07:32

It's too early.

OFGS

And DD2 is 2. As you were?
