Support thread 2 - new blankets

This is a continuation of our thread supporting MNers creating blanket squares for Woolly Hugs. All are welcome and I'm hoping to post a link soon to a collection of our fave patterns, pics and links to keep them all in one place. In the meantime, this new thread will allow phone-based MNers like RedRosie to return from Special Phone Exile where she goes whenever the thread has too many messages on.

This is a thread of peace where knitters and crocheters, donors and crafters are all equally welcome.

Thanks all - and well done on sticking to ginger beer at 8 o'clock in the morning Wink

I've finished a special square that MrsY requested. Well, let's say the intention was special I'm not sure the execution is quite all that. I wish I had done my knitting with colour course already Confused. MrY requested a magpie design and so I adapted these gorgeous mittens into this square.

See, Trib? Sober you are a knitting wizard Grin

MinnieBar · 27/05/2012 09:44

And oooh. I am Foolish McSilly from Fuckwit Town. I was so busy concentrating on the blardy intarsia that I didn't notice its size Blush. The damn thing is 7" wide. Angry Angry Blush Sad Angry

Shall I sew in the sides a little each side? It's just border, and thus the crappy edges won't show when crocheted to superior squares.

It's that or frogging it, it can in no way be squished to 6". Or if someone else has another helpful suggestion?

See - knitting is soooo therapeutic. All sorts of ways of realising what an idiot you are!!

tribpot · 27/05/2012 09:54

Minnie, I would submit it to the Powers That Be (Knotty and Pistey) - it may be they can crochet it over the borders to hide them.

That's absolutely fabulous Tribpot (both your square and reaching your anniversary) Smile Smile

If I'd known about the magpies, I could have chosen the colours for my bird to be more magpie-ish.

Molehillmountain · 27/05/2012 10:36

I am doing garter stitch in the sun Smile. Simples!

RedRosie · 27/05/2012 10:49

Blimey Trib!

That looks amazing although it makes me feel like crawling under a stone and giving up just lovely.

You clever thing Envy

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/05/2012 13:48

Minnie lovely, send the square. What I do know is there is quite a large variation of sizes of 6" squares so I would be very hopeful. Grin

Rosie, I may have to come and poke you with that knitting needle, yours will be gorgeoise too!

Love the magpie trib Thanks

I'm off to my garden for a little while to try to finish my squares, then I am going to try and crochet a few flowers which I find ever so fiddly, but I am Determined.

Molehillmountain · 27/05/2012 14:45

Nice bird trib! Apparently garter stitch not so simples after all! Have def not done a purl stitch but ended up with a bit of stocking stitch-how Confused?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 27/05/2012 15:53

In the garden, in the sun, lovely.

Have a lolly Mole. I recommend it, I've just had a fab, it was smashing. Smile

Molehillmountain · 27/05/2012 18:35

Ooh pistey - we've got fabs in the freezer. I just might Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/05/2012 18:41

I've somehow missed this thread, I had read down to nearly the end of the other one and missed the post with the new link. So I'm marking my spot and will read through to catch up later.

RedRosie · 27/05/2012 18:45

Its true. Pitsey does know where I live. Gulp.

Sorry Pitsey. I'll try to be less apologetic about my skills malfunctions sorry, sorry, sorry

I have another how I hope its not as bad as the last time on that line triain journey to a meeting tomorrow. During which I'll be knitting the replacement plain square. Can you remind me of the deadline?

BarbaraWoodlousaraptor · 27/05/2012 20:21

Thanks for the magpie Trib and for your other huge achievement too. Total respect.

RedRosie I'm sure your squares are super smashing great. I might start calling Pistey Pitsey too, love it

DS was 2 today so this weekend I have mostly been making and icing an enormous green dinosaur cake but looking forward to getting back to relaxing knitting tonight. Just need to de-carnage the house...

KnottyLocks · 27/05/2012 20:34

Babs, sounds a bit like my weekend Grin not a cake dinosaur challenge, thank God. My little fella requested a huge vanilla, strawberry, cream and milk choc button cake. Finished 5 mins before all his excitable mates arrived today.

Minnie, send the square, my lovely. I've tackled, um, more challenging ones before Smile

Trib, you my darling, should be very proud of yourself. A year and to mark it a stunning magpie square Smile

GlaikitFizzog · 27/05/2012 20:40

Trib I raise a glass of elderflower fizzy water to you. Much love.

DS took his first proper steps yesterday. My life is about to come way more difficult. Social services frown upon gaffa taping a baby down, don't they Wink.

Knitting away tonight clickety clack clickety clack!! I'll have my squares posted by the weekend Pistey.

tribpot · 27/05/2012 20:45

Wow, lots of milestones for everyone this weekend :) First steps, dino cakes, and Mole has reinvented garter stitch. Quite an achievement! A fellow MNer whose dd2 is a June 05 baby like my ds has posted on Facebook tonight with an amazing solar system cake as well, poor old ds will be getting .. er, whatever Asda can provide. I draw the line at baking.

I've been decluttering today (probably a 10 year project, think the Forth Bridge before they found the magic paint that didn't wear off in the time it took to paint the bridge) and found my Flylady book under literally years worth of crap in the study. I noted the irony.

Rosie, we'll be sending Yorkshire magic to the train line.

Barbara - it IS Pitsey. It is!

Its just that I'm the only one who knows the truth :o

First steps Glaikit? Lovely.

GlaikitFizzog · 27/05/2012 21:02

Ds had an asda lightning McQueen cake Trib. It was lovely! Although I did try to make a cake it went a bit wrong. You would never think that before I had ds our spare room was dedicated to my cake making.

prettybird · 27/05/2012 21:11

Re clutter - I had a new friend (only recently made) volunteer to come and help me blitz a room (in return for lunch with wine). I was so touched, I haven't yet taken her up on this. Blush. She doesn't know what she's let herself in for Blush

Molehillmountain · 27/05/2012 22:11

I reckon you could knit a cake, trib Wink. Easing myself back into flying again-the timer is my friend for sure. The dino cake sounds fab. My garter stitch square is done-its okay from the wrong side!

RedRosie · 28/05/2012 05:45

Morning all. Its very early Brew

RatherBeOnThePiste · 28/05/2012 06:05

Morning Rosie Brew

You're not wrong there...

Morning everyone Smile

notpodd · 28/05/2012 07:11

Morning all Brew

My birthday cake making is mildly better than my knitting. On to my last panel of my bag. Should finish it tonight. Stand by for photos.

tribpot · 28/05/2012 07:14

Well done notpodd!
