We have just heard the tragic and devastating news that MrsKwazii's daughter has passed away today in an accident. She was 4 Sad

We would like to make a blanket for MrsKwazii's family, to offer them what comfort we can.
If you would like to contribute in any way, please sign up below and PM RatherbeOnThePiste with your offer: crafting, donating, need wool, don't need wool, etc. She'll match you up.

We need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, greens, silver/ greys and pinks.

Are you ok for squares? I am crocheting again now, after a couple of intensive lessons from my DM so if I could do one (or several) please do let me know

SoupDragon · 06/03/2012 09:05

The old one must be worn out by now.

GhastlyBespoke · 06/03/2012 09:48

Got your PM Pistey - Thankyou. I completely missed it!

Glad it arrived Smile

TheRealMBJ · 06/03/2012 10:59

Back in England.

Can't wait to get home to my new wool and get cracking on my squares. (I may have snuck in a new pattern book too Blush)

Molehillmountain · 06/03/2012 12:22

Slight problem-dd1 found my squares and is using them as sylvanian families carpets!!! Confused

KnottyLocks · 06/03/2012 12:30

Better that than using them as tissues, Mole Smile

PurplePidjin · 06/03/2012 12:30

Teach her to knit/crochet so she can make her own!

KnottyLocks · 06/03/2012 12:31

You better get cracking on an teeny tiny picnic blanket.

Molehillmountain · 06/03/2012 13:29

It's okay dd can already knit - she'll gladly show anyone who tries to teach her Confused. I think freestyle would sum it up! Saw patterns for sylvanian clothes online-I knitted a teeny bedcover instead!

PurplePidjin · 06/03/2012 13:31

Cool Grin

Molehillmountain · 06/03/2012 13:34

This is a side track but of teaching dd1 to formalise her knitting style, would bug needles and chunky work better? When I tried, we used my first needles (3.25mm) and dk . Worked for me-dd not so much. Or does a bad knitting teacher blame her tools...?

Molehillmountain · 06/03/2012 13:35

Big!

hadagutsfull · 06/03/2012 15:49

Quick question - need help please! My wool has only just arrived today. Ended up with 2 balls of the same colour as Cucumberpatch has run out of the other colour I wanted.

Anyway, to get to the question - my knitting needles say 4 on them but not 4mm. Are they the right size or should it say 4mm??? HELP! Want to get started ASAP but don't want to be using the wrong size.

Molehillmountain · 06/03/2012 15:52

I think size four would be quite different from four mm so if I were you I'd measure them on a tape measure or ruler. If they seem to be 4mm they are prob what you want.

hadagutsfull · 06/03/2012 15:57

Thanks mole - this isn't going well for me so far! Looks like I may have to nip to Hobbycraft in a minute to buy different needles. I gave tons of them away a couple of months ago because I never used them .....

Have just looked at some on Pistey's profile - am feeling very inadquate as mine will only be plain knitted ones Blush

TimeForCake · 06/03/2012 16:07

Don't feel inadequate hadagutsfull. Knotty always says that the simple squares are essential. It's about the thought that goes into the square. I am struggling with mine too and it will be very basic I promise you probably full of mistakes too but it will be made with love and I hope it looks ok ish next to it's fabulous woolly friends.

hadagutsfull · 06/03/2012 16:16

Oooh thanks Cake - that makes me feel better! It wouldn't do if we all made the same would it? Good luck with yours. Just nipping out to buy the right sized needles ....

nickelhasababy · 06/03/2012 16:21

plain squares are good.

i'm wishing i'd done all plain squares - only one of mine so far is actually square....

TimeForCake · 06/03/2012 16:23

Bet you come out with more than needles in Hobbycraft! Grin I can get lost for hours in there buying all sorts & spending a fortune!
