We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

Thank you all so very much Thanks

Chipping, what happens when you set fire to a wool carpet as opposed to one that isn't? (Curiosity killed the cat, I know)

My first square is nearly done. I've been slow as we've been out all day, and I can only do a few rows before I have to rest my fingers, but I'll definitely get one done! DD is getting well with hers too, but like me has been out all day and she's a slower knitter anyway (but this will help her speed up). Must teach her how to purl.....

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 04/03/2012 00:21

Jux - you need to cut out a few of the fibres (use small nail scissors - you never see where you have cut them from) - the wool ones burn and basically disintgrate, the acrylic/nylon ones go all 'plasticy' Grin Of course if the client doesn't mind - you can set fire to the carpet and on a wool carpet you will end up with a 'burnt patch' with a nylon/acrylic you will end up with a fire and a lot of 'sticky crap' NOT a good idea - do not try this at home Grin

Do you have arthritis in your fingers or do you just grip the needles too hard? The bamboo ones are supposed to be good for arthritis etc. I have been knitting with mine and haven't had any aches, but I don't know if that's just co-incidence or not.

What colour are you using (sorry if you've already said, brain turning to mush).

Jux · 04/03/2012 00:36

It's ms. It's OK, but a bit like repetitive strain - have to give everything a rest every 5 or 10mins (that includes, eg. cleaning the bath - oh what a shame! Tends to mean dh does it or my lovely helper who comes twice a week.)

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 04/03/2012 00:40

MS - it's pretty draining isn't it :( It might be worth trying the bamboo needles anyway!

Jux · 04/03/2012 00:54

DD has a pair. I'll try them, not for this, they're the wrong size. Thanks for the suggestion Smile

I have enlisted my lovely MIL and will hopefully have a Surprise Square to show you later Grin

Pastabee · 04/03/2012 09:20

Morning all. pistey I have pm'd you so hope that works. Have made 7 squares which can be used as knotty wishes on either blanket or future ones.

Very plain due to baby DD stealing my concentration.... I'll set her to work in my sweatshop soon enough!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 04/03/2012 09:24

Morning all :)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/03/2012 09:25

Hooray.... PM system seems to be working fine

For now Grin

angelpantser · 04/03/2012 09:35

I have finished a square for the blanket. Pic on my profile. HOWEVER it has come out as 6" wide and 6.5" long. There are a couple of plain rows at the top and bottom of the design that I could take out and it would deffo be 6" square then. I don't mind re-doing it - I just need a decision from the MN massive before I deal with my pesky ends.

It's a penguin btw - just in case anyone was left in any doubt after my outstanding photography skills. Grin

SoupDragon · 04/03/2012 10:18

Might it be a good idea to set up a dedicated email address? Something like woolyhugs at gmail.com for example.

SoupDragon · 04/03/2012 10:19

Nice penguin BTW, angel :)

KnottyLocks · 04/03/2012 10:29

Angel, the penguin is very cute. Smile Star

I can work with him the size he is so don't worry about re-doing him.

Soupy, we're waiting for MNHQ to get back to us before making any decisions. They are working on some plan to make it all easier apparently. I'm hoping it involves rum.

OP posts:
RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/03/2012 10:31

Sadly tis a rum free short term solution Knots - have sent you a little texty

KnottyLocks · 04/03/2012 10:55

I cannot believe they forgot the rum.

Angel- a lovely penguin! :)

Still plodding along on my final square. Dh made me watch tinker Taylor soldier spy last night. 3 years of dc related sleep deprivation is not ideal for understanding espionage and spy business. Doubt I'll finish it today either as dd was awake for almost 4 hours last night!

Morning blanketeers!

Angel I love your square!

Have PM'd Pistey for address details.

SwivellingDicksTidyWife · 04/03/2012 12:27

Ok 6 squares done. I will weave in the ends before I post them, honestly. Pics are here Brought to you in association with Thumbwitch Wink

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/03/2012 12:37

PMs seem to be working fine at the moment Grin

Have replied to this morning's.

The reassuring thing with the problem we are having with PMs is that you will know it won't send. Same here. I know if there is a problem.

The exciting news for me though is that I am over half way on my first square.
Go me. Whoop whoop.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/03/2012 12:39

Ooooo luffly production by another amazing double act! Well done indeed!

Thanks Thanks

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/03/2012 14:32

I've been to John Lewis and bought my wool, and I'm going to go and start knitting squares as soon as I'm off mumsnet. I've got a very pale silvery turquoise and a mid blue, which look lovely together.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/03/2012 15:11

I will send off my two squares in the next couple of days, there is some wool left over so I will send that back too.

Kayzr · 04/03/2012 15:14

I'm halfway through my first square.

I've bought some practice wool and cable needles so next time there is a blanket I might be able to do something interesting.
