We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

Thank you all so very much Thanks

I've had a quick skim through the thread so sorry if I have missed this info - but when do you want the squares by, Knotty? I'm going to get the wool tomorrow, and will get knitting as soon as I have it - I just hope I am not too late.

I need an address PM'd to me to send squares etc to please.

SwivellingDicksTidyWife · 03/03/2012 13:09

I am on my 5th Square now Grin

whenisitmysleepytime If you have digital baking scales, you can weight the squares you have knitted, and weight what is left of your yarn. You can then see whether you can squeeze another square out, or not.

My squares (knitted) are weighing roughly 12-16 grams each, so I am getting 3 squares out of a ball with about 5g left over. Crochet squares I think use up more wool yarn.

Yes, I know weighing it out by the gram makes me a sad bastard. So shoot me Grin

SwivellingDicksTidyWife · 03/03/2012 13:10

weigh not weight

PurplePidjin · 03/03/2012 13:26

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/03/2012 13:40

Thanks, SwifellingDicksTidyWife and Knotty. I'll be getting my wool at John Lewis tomorrow.

Dingle · 03/03/2012 13:46

I have 16 grm left to play with...hmmm. Do I stick to a plain square or should I try to design a tree! LOL

KnottyLocks · 03/03/2012 13:48

Update

The current state of play is that we have a lot of people crafting for both blankets. It's wonderful that so many of you have offered your skills. Pistey and I have been quite overwhelmed (in a good way Smile ) by the response.

You are all lovely and complete [stars] Thanks

Obviously we don't want to turn people away if there are more offers because that goes against everything we believe these blankets are about and is certainly not in the spirit of what we are trying to do.

So we're NOT going to do that and have no intention of doing so.

However, it does mean that if we have more crafters sign up I can't guarantee that every single square made will go on these blankets. I will make sure that if you are signed up already, as many of your squares as possible will appear on the blankets we're doing at the moment.

For any crafters that are considering offering that haven't done so already:

If you are happy to have any squares that you make used on any of the MN blankets (it may be in the future rather than on these two), please let us know and join our little band of blanketeers. Smile

Thanks to you all. You are just simply marvellous.

Thanks

Obviously I can't. Speak for my donor, but I'm fine with my squares going wherever they're needed

Thanks
RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/03/2012 21:10

That is something I can check for you Pidj - I've checked for others x

PurplePidjin · 03/03/2012 21:24

I'll pop a note in - some of mine are donor wool, some are left over ends from previous blankets. I haven't mixed them up yet

Pics of donor squares are now on my profile if they want to see what I've made so far :)

GentleOtter · 03/03/2012 21:58

Chuffed the envelope arrived today. I keep thinking about little Lawrie.

Thank you for doing this as finishing all the squares into a big blanket is an enormous amount of work. Thanks

Is it still ok to send squares for Mrs Kwazii's blanket?

PurplePidjin · 03/03/2012 22:05

4.5yo dnephew has been playing with Peso today. He has been very careful because he knows Peso is going to a little boy who has lost his mummy Sad

KnottyLocks · 03/03/2012 23:01

Pidj, lovely squares darling Star

GO, yes still fine to send squares for the Kwazii blanket. P'lease do. Smile

It's really near impossible to work out how many squares we will have. We know who has offered and have a rough idea of how many balls were sent to donors, but no real idea of how much wool people have bought themselves and how many you lovely folks will make. We can estimate but know from previous experience that it's not that simple!

Obviously it's absolutely amazing that we have had so much support for both projects and we thank people so much for that. We just didn't want new crafters coming forward at this point to offer if we couldn't say for certain if their squares would appear on these current blankets.

Pidjin Peso is lovely.

I could cry, thinking of little Lawrie.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 03/03/2012 23:31

Hi Knotty - it's lovely to get such a good response isn't it :) I was starting to wonder if you'd end up doing one for MrWubbly & one for LittleWubbly or indeed one big enough to cover the whole house!! Shock

Maybe anyone who has sent more than one square/donated wool, would like to let you know that it's OK to use the others on future blankets or a charity blanket or something, so that anyone who specifically wants to make 1 for either Wubbly's or MrsK's blanket can still do so. Personally I think it would be nicer to have one woolley hug from everyone that wants to do one, than 15 from one person and none from someone else because 'there isn't room'... I'll shut up now as it's nothing to do with me really.

I've chosen one design for each of the blankets, the rest will be plain and I'm happy for you to use them on either blanket or a future one - whatever you need . Will, of course, put a note in the envelope :)

Donkey - I know it's only wool if it's from a sheep!! Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa but I have a complete hatred of the word 'yarn' Happy with acrylic, cotton, etc... but yarn, just can't do it :0pppppppp I have a background in carpet it is fun showing clients that their wool carpet is not, in fact, wool, by setting light to a few fibres Grin

Victoria Sponge here too - but if you are making it and sending it to me - feel free to call it whatever you like Grin
