We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

Thank you all so very much Thanks

Started my second square this evening, a basic cable. I will attempt at making a tree pattern up after I have finished it!

Could anyone give me an idea of the amount of stitches they use on a cabled square please? I have found 40 sts works up ok with my tension.

Damn you Debbie bliss cashmerino dk! You have ruined me for other wool!!!! Blush
I've gone back to the crochet ripple blanket I'm making for a friends baby - due in 8 weeks! Grin and it's not behaving. It was fine before and I liked my cheaper choice. But now it just isn't as nice.

August- from my iPhone I take a picture and upload to Flickr. Then I add a link to my Flickr page/ bit on here the normal link way. does that help?

Wish I'd made it to the meet- sounded like you all had great time. :) on the up side dd is feeling a lot better. :)

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 02/03/2012 21:14

Pidj - noted my friend, noted :)

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 02/03/2012 21:15

WhenIs - we are going to have to take you to a big wool shop - lots of lovely choices bring your visa card Grin

PurplePidjin · 02/03/2012 21:19

What a bummer, August!

Dingle, I was mooching round Wilko's the other day and they have craft kits for about £3 each. Some really nice looking stuff. Too Old for DN (4.5) but just right for your dd? Can't find them on the website though...

Whenisitmysleepytime · 02/03/2012 21:21

Chipping- I'm saving up or more Rowan belle organic Amy butler dk to finish off the granny square blanket I'm making for dd. it's similar price to the Debbie bliss stuff! I hadn't Factored in the price when I decided to make a blanket! Blush

When I upload from an iPad I upload to something like Picasa (using an app called Web Albums) and link to the photo there. I am certain that this is the only way to do it from an iPad (or iPhone)

Mousey84 · 02/03/2012 21:29

Thread if anyone fancies compiling a list of good 6" squares? I love the heart one but its 9" and I need to work out how to reduce it....

Apologies for not commenting individually, but every single square that I've seen linked to looks fabulous. They're going to be such gorgeous blankets Smile.

Right, I've officially given up on any kind of tree-based cable-stylee square. Unless someone has a strong masochistic streak and a spare hour, it's ground me down and I GIVE UP!! Graph patterns you have won, ok? Hands down, total whitewash?

AugustMoon · 02/03/2012 21:33

Right, it's on my profile or http://www.mumsnet.com/Profile?nick=AugustMoon&photos=p

AugustMoon · 02/03/2012 21:34

So, just on my profile then - that link didn't work.
Think I may have a severe case of baby brain...

Mousey84 · 02/03/2012 21:35

Chipping my dd is 9 and I think Ill teach her crochet as she loves looking at the amigurumi things. Ill need to practice a bit more first!

I have only made dishcloths and used them as such (or face cloths)! But I was mainly knitting them to sell for charity. I went through a 2 months phase of knitting then didnt do anymore til I started knitting gloves in october...they still arent finished since I started learning crochet and made preemie baby hats for local hospital instead. :)

Enjoying being back to knitting.

Oh, actually, above is a lie...I started knitting a teddy bear too. The knitting part has been finished for a year and Ive never sewn it up. It was supposed to go on a plane to Romania 10 months ago...

PurplePidjin · 02/03/2012 21:36

Yay!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 02/03/2012 21:37

August - that's amazing! Grin
Was worth the techie effort to get that uploaded!

AugustMoon · 02/03/2012 21:46

Thanks Blush

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 02/03/2012 21:53

WhenIs shocking price when you add it all up... much better not to and if DH asks, the wool is £5 isn't itno need to mention that's per ball and you needed x balls Grin

Minnie :( I am sure the leaves will look lovely.....

August - that's a really wizzy square!! Very impressive.

Mousey - DD is 9 - teach her now while she still has a fresh young brain Grin What wool do you use when you are making dishcloths to be used as face cloths or dishcloths? Don't they get all claggy? Prem baby hats are a lovely thing to make and you wont need gloves till next Oct Grin Poor Teddy - get the wee thing sewn up!!

Mousey84 · 02/03/2012 22:00

I use dishcloth wool! I kept 3 for myself and they are bleached daily and machine washed and they are grand. They are literally just knit rectangles (large square ones didnt fit in tall thin glasses). Nothing fancy at all.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 02/03/2012 22:04

Mousey - I had to google 'dishcloth wool' to see if you were yanking my chain!! I have never heard of such a beast! Blimey... you learn something new every day Grin then I had to think about why you'd want to put a facecloth in a tall glass!! Try not to laugh too hard!! What are they like for facecloths?? If you think they are nice then I'd love to knit some for the little ones!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 02/03/2012 22:05

Any minute now someone is going to tell me there is 'Facecloth Wool' aren't they!

Mousey84 · 02/03/2012 22:20

That would be a new one on me too! But its grand as facecloths. I used scrap bits of wool to crochet circles to replace cotton wool pads. They are good for exfoilation :)

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 02/03/2012 22:26

Oh - right - well, I will order some then and get knitting - I know some little people who are going to love this! Thank you :)

Mousey84 · 02/03/2012 22:26

um...light exfoliation - its not wire wool...

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 02/03/2012 23:37

Funnily enough I was on a website and they were mentioning making face clothes with cotton yarn... I am going to give this a shot, once I have done my second square.

mousey - its much cheaper than the wool we are using at the moment, and I think it would make nice gifts, if only I could do more exciting stitches, but I suppose for a facecloth you just want garter/stocking.

In the morning when I am fresh as a daisy and not half asleep I will look again at the post earlier with the blue and white colour square and the pattern to match.

Might give that a try too. Smile

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 02/03/2012 23:42

Jax - there are loads of 'picture' squares on ravelry for 'dish'cloths! The kids will love them!

NoMoreMarbles · 03/03/2012 02:26

It's HERE!! My lovely wool is HERE!!Grin I have an olive-y green and charcoal grey tooSmile getting knitting tomorrow!!
