We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

Thank you all so very much Thanks

Dingle I gave up on that one as the combination of grid pattern + reducing it by a third all over = too much stress.

I found this one and the pattern is a download. Again it's a grid pattern, it's actually too narrow but I thought add on seven stitches either side and it'll be fine.

BUT I'm still confused. Surely, surely if you P7, K5, P7 every row you'll just end up with bumps all over and the actual pattern (the K bit) won't show??

So then I tried K every other row, which is working on the trunk but I'm totally lost on the branches. And again, surely I should be cabling FORWARDS on the right side and BACKWARDS on the wrong side, or is that my misinterpretation??

I may possibly just give up and knit a nice leaf instead.

KnottyLocks · 02/03/2012 19:02

Note wrong with a nice leaf, Minnie.

Can't help you with the pattern I'm afraid - beyond me.

Blummin phone. Should be 'nowt' wrong.

Yes I think I am probably aiming too high. I get how to cable (although my cable needles keep dropping off the stitches altogether) so I've made the foolish assumption that therefore I can manage any pattern with cabling in Blush. Clearly not.

Very probably leaf it is then although part of me says 'dammit! I'm an intelligent person and I don't want to be beaten by a bloomin' knitting pattern!'

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/03/2012 19:15

Oh... I thought the size of squares was 9x3. No?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/03/2012 19:16

Off to my PMs accompanied by a gin. All is well.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/03/2012 19:38

Another fabulous group of donors have done their thing, and wool has arrived safely with our crafty crafters, and cash donations with us. Many thanks to all donors, we truly appreciate your generosity. Thanks

I am home, I am fed, but I won't be able to take decent pics of my squares til tomorrow. I used donor wool (thanks to KM) to make: a plain blue granny, a silver-Grey snowflake with a navy border, and a silver-Grey cable square which unfortunately came out 6x5 so will be acquiring a crochet border soon Thanks

Chipping tried in vain to teach me to knit. Needless to say I'm hopeless and will be sticking to crochet unless my MIL twists my arm!!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/03/2012 20:07

I know some people are still waiting for wool deliveries from a donor.

Please don't worry, wool will come.

If you are still waiting after the post arrives tomorrow, please drop me a PM and I will follow it up for you...

Wine Cheers

I'm loving this wool. Since I learnt to knit (summer 2010 and only made dishcloths since) the practice wool felt all rough and I have a weird thing about certain textures. Def planning a big project with this stuff once I can be sure I'm not bidding against other mn'ers on eBay!

I've completed two squares and dd has done a half one - just 15 mons practice and she's flying. V proud and a little jealous!

Going to try a practice crochet square tonight. It's a v new skill to me so looking forward to it!

Anyone fancy starting a thread just with links to good patterns for this yarn?

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 02/03/2012 20:24

Evening all - I've just got home (Good Deed of the Day detour on the way home) - what a day! Who knew knitting & nattering could be so exhausting!! I had a lovely time though and would be happy to join/arrange another 'Knit & Natter' soon :)

Pidj was surprisingly self controlled around my 9 balls of wool :) I counted them before we left. She attempted to teach me to crochet... poor thing!! let's just say I wont be making that crochet owl ever for quite some time to come!! Yarn OVER - should not BE that hard!! Blush...

Minnie - It's a real shame you couldn't make it today. Poor little DS, it's horrible to leave them when they are so upset. Mind you, most kids recover much quicker than their parents!! Wink I liked that tree one too & there was a similar one that I liked even more (one bigger tree and one smaller tree), but they were both too big!! I might graph one and give it a go. The new one that you like is hard to do from a graph (IMO) and would be much easier written down.

Donkey - that's a nice square :)

Jux - I ended up pulling out about 5 rows twice as well. I had split the stitch and it had an ugly bit sticking out and I hadn't noticed... buggering bugger. But as I haven't had to undo any knitting in years I didn't do a fab job of it and couldn't remember which way the stitches should sit on the needle so re knit a bit then didn't think it was sitting nice enough, so redid it and faffed about. It would have been quicker to have just ditched the whole thing and started again!! I had a dither over the width as well, I thought it wasn't quite wide enough (it looked to be about 5.5") but I asked LadyW and she compared it to hers and declared it 'fine' - so I carried on and she was right, it's now exactly 6" - I'm well impressed with her :)

WhoKnows - well done!! Are we going to get a photo on your profile??

AugustMoon - it sounds nice - look forward to the photo!

Pistey lots & lots of lovely donors - aren't they lovely :)

I need to be able to MN with my toes so I can knit at the same time!! Grin

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 02/03/2012 20:32

Pidj cross posted :)

Lucky you been fed - I've just started warming up the over for a ready meal cooking dinner.

I tell you people either Pidj crochets faster than a fast thing or crocheting is super speedy compared to knitting - she was wizzing those squares out like no-ones business!!

Mousey if you start a thread I'll join you :) Have you actually been using your 'dishcloths' as dishcloths? or for something else? Well done DD :) How old is she?

PurplePidjin · 02/03/2012 20:37

August that's fantastic!

May I suggest you tighten your security unless you're happy to completely out yourself? I really don't want to offend you, it's just that your fb profile is very open and someone with the wrong intentions could get up to all sorts of mischief...

AugustMoon · 02/03/2012 20:49

I know - didn't mean to do that! Don't even know how I managed it Blush was just trying to work out how to get a photo on from my iPad.... I've reported it. Any other suggestions for sorting it out welcome

Guess I'm going to have to go downstairs and turn on the 'real' computer. The massive bar of cadbury's caramel will have to wait :(
